CandidGamera's Comic Book Trivia

No.

Hmm. Tom Strong’s Terrific Tales has a backup feature, Jonni Future, that I’m not sure was Moore’s. Is that the answer?

Just because I can, I’m going to throw in a couple more questions, pertaining to the Green Lantern Corps.

GL1) What planet was GL Kilowog from?

GL2) GL John Stewart was involved with a certain hot-pink-skinned alien GL lady. Name her.

GL3) Which GL was a living planet?

This should be an easy one for you, Bosda:

Which mainstream Marvel superhero once referred to Megatron as “Bazooka Joe?”

Aww… can I answer it? It’s in one of the issues of Transformers that I actually bought, if I recall correctly.

Spiderman

Nope.

I don’t know the answers to the first or second of your questions, but the third was Mogo?

Keerect!

John Stewart dated and I think married Katma Tui before she was killed by Star Sapphire.

Also kee-rect!

Agggh! Darn! Why didn’t I see this thread sooner? lays on the floor and kicks feet and hammers fists on ground like temper tantrumming 2 year old I’ve known the answer to about 85% of these questions! (she says, modestly.) And, it’s taken about 8 minutes for the reply to topic screen to come up! (curse you hamsters!), knowing my luck, someone’s beaten me to these answers…

Kilowog’s home planet-Bolovax and then some numeral, is it XIV?

the Planet GL, it’s Mogo or is it Morgo?

Ooooo, I’m annoyed that about 3 people beat me to the Katma Tui answer! Curses!!!

1.) [DC - Pre-Crisis] What variety of Kryptonite is deadly to plant life of any world?

White

2.) [Marvel] What is the full civilian name of the second Captain Marvel (now Photon)?
Monica Rambeau
3.) [DC] Who was the first full member of the original Justice Society to leave (to honorary status)?
Flash
4.) [DC] Why did he leave?
Because any character that got a “Solo” book became an honarary member (“Flash Comics” was shared with Hawkman, Johnny Thunder, etc). Flash got “All Flash” comics and Johnny Thunder was his replacement.

5.) [Marvel] What is the civilian name of the hero Quasar?
Wendell Vaughn

6.) [Marvel] What is Captain America’s indestructible shield made of?

NOT adamantium. It’s a steel/vibranium alloy that Dr. Myron McLain spent 40+ years trying to duplicate before he invented adamantium (in Avengers #66)which has some, but not all of the unique properties of Cap’s shield. See Avengers Annual 2001 (?) for more info. Jarvis (and Busiek) get pissy about this one. Not me, though!

7.) [DC - Pre-Crisis] Name the Kryptonian super-duo, analogous to Batman and Robin, who had their own action figures and television show on Krypton.
Nightwing and Flamebird who were first Superman and Jimmy Olsen and then Van-Zee and Ak-Var

8.) [Marvel] What was the title of the first five-issue story arc in Todd McFarlane’s run on Spider-Man?
Tormented? Torment?
9.) [DC - Pre-Crisis] Name the other members of the Zoo Crew, apart from Captain Carrot.
Pig Iron, Yankee Poodle, Rubberduck, and um. The other one. Oh, and Big (little?) Cheese. Ally-Cat Dabra. That’s the missing one.

10.) [Marvel] Name Dr. Strange’s Green Minotaur servant.
Rintrah

Bonus ) [DC] On the poster and trade paperback cover for Crisis on Infinite Earths (the Alex Ross painting), one major former member of the Justice League is not pictured. Who is it?
I haven’t got any idea.

11.) [Marvel] Thor’s enchanted hammer, Mjolnir, is made of what material?
Uru

12.) [Marvel] What was the name of Thor’s original civilian alter-ego?
Don Blake

Zor-El and Allura (and Zor was Jor’s brother or cousin)

An evil yellow cat.

15.) [Marvel] In what two locations on the Marvel Earth can one find Vibranium for mining?
Wakinda and the Savage Land. The Wakandian stuff absorbs vibrations, the Savage Land stuff melts metal (I think the Savage Land stuff was called “Vibranium” because, when struck, it’s vibrations melt metal. It’s more accurately called “the anti-metal”

16.) [Marvel] The Android Vision was created as a combination of the brain patterns of one character and a body based on another character of the Marvel Universe. Name these characters.
His body is a time-split version (see Avengers Forever) of the original Human Torch’s and his mind is based on the “engrams” (Holy $cientology Batman!) of Wonder Man. Byrne did his best to undo this and Busiek spent much of Avengers Forever repairing the damage.

17.) [DC Post-Crisis] The Martian Manhunter was revealed to have a fondness for a certain snack food, in the pages of the second Justice League series. Name the snack food.
Oreos—and they’ve changed the name of the cookies for lawsuit reasons to something I can’t remember.

18.) [DC] What are the command words for Johnny Thunder’s Thunderbolt?
Cei-U (pronounced “Say You”) but the new kid says “So-Cool”

19.) [Marvel] What street did a young Benjamin Grimm live on long before becoming the Thing?
Yancy.
20.) [DC] What is the proper name of the Amazon’s ‘Paradise Island’?
[/QUOTE]

Themescrya (which I can’t spell)

Actually, you’re thinking of the original Ultron that looked like a chrome olde-style radio on a wheel. Ultron-5(?) (the one with skeletal-looking arms and legs) built Vision

[DC Pre-C] What Kryptonian God’s name did Superman often invoke when amazed by something?
Rao!

22.) [Marvel] Who invented the quintessential superhero costume material, ‘unstable molecules’?
Reed Richards

2814

28.) [DC] What sector of the galaxy was Krypton in, according to the Green Lantern Corps?
No idea! Great question though (and the answer is in an issue of Superman around the 250s when Elliot S! Maggin was writing those wonderful backups.

29.) [Marvel] What fuels the powers of Gladiator, praetor of the Shiar Imperial Guard?
Psychic. He was sort-of a test for Byrne’s Superman.

30.) [DC] What’s the nickname for Sgt. Rock’s unit? (of soldiers, you sickos. )
Easy Company.

Great questions (and a great user name CandidGamera!) , even if I disagree with you on the Cap’s shield one.

Wait…th’ thread’s on page 3?? You bums have already answered the questions? Pfffbt.

Wasn’t the Justice Experience from the late (at least by me) lamented book “Chase”?

It may be… however, I actually remember reading the story in question, and I can count the number of issues of Chase I’ve read on two fingers.

Thank you, I won’t be going through to verify all the answers as correct or incorrect, as I’ve done that already in the thread … but I swear to you I think that Cap’s shield was vibranium with “proto” adamantium as another poster answered.

I haven’t seen the Avengers annual in question, but I think I remember seeing it described thusly in the Marvel Super Heroes RPG, at least. Hmm… I could check my haphazard and sparse collections of Official Handbooks of the Marvel Universe, I s’pose…

See, this is why I allow flexibility on the answers. Different sources say different things. And I was doing all these questions from memory.

Well, maybe I’ll post some more questions, so you’d better subscribe!

Mogo is the living planet GL, immortalized in a really wonderful Alan Moore story back in the 80’s, titled ‘Mogo Doesn’t Socialize’, if memory serves.

Kilowog’s planet … close enough. Bolovax Vik. (The Vik part does look like Roman Numerals, though…)

Time for another round of questions. For those of you still with us.

1.) Name the glue-gun-toting nemesis of the Fantastic Four, who occasionally fights other Marvel heroes as well.

2.) One Marvel meta-criminal wields a bubble-gun that induces euphoria and is, all things considered, a rather silly person. Name him.

3.) In the recent JLA/Avengers crossover, it was asserted that Wally West, AKA the Flash, was unable to access the ‘Speed Force’ that grants him his powers, while in the Marvel Universe. Cite the evidence that seemingly invalidates this assertion, which comes from a previous book. [Toughie]

4.) Nightcrawler is extremely agile, can stick to walls, has a prehensile tail, and can teleport. What’s his other mutation, apart from his appearance?

5.) What was Doug Ramsey’s codename while a member of the New Mutants?

6.) Who gave Impulse (now Kid Flash) his original costumed-identity name?

7.) Plastic Man, in addition to being a member of the Justice League, and the All-Star Squadron, was an agent of which government agency?

8.) In which DC “event” miniseries did the Justice Society return from repeatedly fighting the battle of Ragnarok?

9.) Name the female alien race that are the counterparts of the Guardians of Oa.

10.) Which sector of the galaxy was the responsibility of the Green Lantern Ch’p?
