Cannabis tolerance and eating vs smoking

I’ve been eating edibles for a few weeks and I find myself needing more and more to get the same effect. If I switched back to smoking or vaping, would I still have a high tolerance and this need more? Should I plan on taking a 30-day T break?

30 days seems excessive.

Good luck

Well, it’s a biological fact that the human organism adapts to its environment. I know, for example, that my tolerance for caffeine is very high simply because I drink a lot of coffee every day. With that in mind, my opinion is that you have built up a tolerance over time.

When you say “for a few weeks”, do you mean every day?!

Yes, every day.

Try switching up what you’re using. If it’s D9THC, try D8 or D10 or HHC etc.

It’s not. THC typically takes about a month to cycle out of your system. Ask anyone that had to quit to pass a drug test.

Good Lord! I’d be incapacitated as a functioning human being! LOL

I can do 1/2 of one gummie. That’s it, and I wouldn’t do that more than every month or two. If I do one in the evening, I pretty much stay at home in my night shirt the next day. Either the stuff you do is weak, or you have the constitution of a bull elephant.

The latter. I’m a heavy user on two levels. 1) I use a lot, every day; and 2) I’m a very large man (150k).

The liver metabolizes THC into a slightly different molecule (11-hydroxy THC). I’m not sure how much cross-tolerance there is between that and delta-9 you get from smoking, but they’re different substances with different levels of activity.

Edible tolerance is no joke. If you keep increasing and don’t take breaks, you can easily get well north of 200mg/day. That’s a waste of money and also bad for your liver, so you need to work out a schedule of tolerance breaks. It’s really subjective but try taking every 6th week off, and if that doesn’t work, take the 5th and 6th week off. That’s just a ballpark, figure out what works for you.

Thank you, this seems like helpful advice. I eat firecrackers, which are little sandwiches made from graham crackers and peanut butter (or Nutella, depending on user preference). The guy who taught me to make them had me start with .5 grams of flower, but as of Sunday I was going through 1.5 grams and getting basically nowhere. I’m on my way to my dispensary to buy a vape cartridge while I take a break from edibles.

Also, is there an equation that will tell me roughly how much THC I get from so much (say, a gram of) flower?

Ok. Then. That fought my ignorance.

eek this was disturbing.

From that article:

the study did not control for what specific cannabis products subjects used or their diet, body mass index, or lifestyle factors and contained only one woman in the edible group

Doesn’t seem that useful a study if that is accurate.

That doesn’t mean it should be ignored. I loved smoking when I was in college and as recently as 5 years ago. At age 61 now, I am concerned about the effects of the actual smoke, and I don’t really like the dosing of current edibles (or the high). But I’m also worried about how it could affect my heart arrhythmia or the beta blockers I take to keep it under control. The study reinforced my weariness of cannabis today, even though I have a stash of weed and edibles.

A 10mg gummy appears to be the right dosage for me, a comfortable and happy buzz for 2-3 hours.

I have to be very cautious smoking modern flower; just overdoing it a little can render me catatonic.

After years of experimentation, I’ve settled on disposable vape pens as my vector of choice. A few specific strains, to be exact. One good hit of Habibi and I’m good for the evening.
