Can't all moderators do this?

It feels so silly to post this in the Pit, but it is “the place for all complaints and other discussion regarding administration of the SDMB”, so I guess I have to.

I’d just like to ask all moderators to mention in what forum they’re moderators when they’re moving a thread. For example, DrMatrix always signs “DrMatrix, GQ Moderator” when moving a thread to another forum. It makes it easy to see what forum the thread was moved from.

Yes, I’m way too lazy to memorize the moderators.

It’s no big deal and very easy to do. The instance where it might become more confusing is when we “roam”, i.e. help cover a forum we don’t usually moderate. But I have no objection to noting the forum it was moved from; just never really thought about it before.

Just out of curiosity, why is it important to know where a thread was moved from?

It isn’t. This is just a tiny little annoyance.

Oh, okay.

I was just afraid that I was being dumb and missing something obvious.

It does affect the tone of the previous discussion - if a thread is moved from BBQ to GD, it says something different than GQ to GD, and saves you wondering “Why was that comment innapropriate, etc.” If it was moved immediately, it doesn’t really matter.

I agree mentioning the forum the moderator lives in would be funnier than mentioning the forum the thread came from, but probably a bad idea.

Heh. Good one.

Shit, I’m boned.

So, did we come to any sort of conclusion here or what?

Yep.

Some of the moderators will try to do this, and you are in the poo, up to your ankles.
