Can't get more mundane than an intro.

I’m thinking I should pause for fanfare, but hey.

Hello, dopers. I’m andygirl. (Lowercase because I feel like it. My real name is Kristen, but that’s common as dirt.)

I’m 18, leaving for Dartmouth College in a month… I write a lot. Columns, poems, plays. It’s a living. I intern for a local theater company and work at a clothing store. I also administer email lists for gay teens. (Hey, matt_mcl! Remember me? The numberletter girl.) Obsessions include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Altoids, Neil Gaiman, and Terry Pratchett. Oh, and I’m a lesbian.

I’m a Delaware girl. I live in the flattest county in the flattest state in the US. Chickens outnumber people 60:1 in my state.

For once, I’m strapped for words. Um… hi, everyone.

andygirl

Well, let me be the first to welcome you to the wonderful world of the SDMB. Put on your seatbelt and enjoy the ride!

Hello Andygirl!!! Welcome to the board!!
How can any state be flatter than Florida?

Welcome. Hope we all enjoy each other’s company.

I do believe that Nebraska be’s a tad flatter than both Del. and Fla. Pulling freight in an 18 wheeler convinced me. Big state, few lumps.

Thanks for the welcome. I feel loved.

As for the question of Delaware’s flatness, I must rely on my great source of geographical knowledge: my dad the history teacher, armed with his atlas o’ death. (Seriously. The thing is immense. )

Delaware is the flattest state by several hundred feet.

In Sussex County, where I live, the average is 12 ft above sea level. The whole state is an average of 60 ft above sea level.

It’s because of the chickens. They trampled down the earth, I tell you.

Dela…where?

andygirl

I left you a welcome aboard in the ABTMB section but I can welcome you here too. Welcome!

Hi andygirl and welcome.
If you hurry you can get in on a great deal of a lifetime and bid on your very own Osip!

See the thread “for sale or rent” for more information

A strapped lesbian? Hmmm.

Anyway, I always though Florida was the flattest state. Prove me wrong.

Hey andygirl, welcome to the board. So, you like Altoids? Would this be for sexual purposes? Just wondering.

If you like Neil Gaiman and Pratchett, you are a good person and welcome here. How’s that for a blindly munbdane first impression?

Welcome aboard, andygirl. And thanks for the opportunity to grossly inflate my posts count.

Oh wait, I just noticed you’re from Delaware…get a real state, you Maryland wanna-bes
(hey, when you’re from MD, you need someone to pick on, and Delaware and West Virginia are…well…obvious choices)

According to the US geological survey, found through infoseek.

http://www.infoplease.lycos.com/ipa/A0001792.html

Delaware’s mean elevation is 60 ft. Florida’s is 100.

For all the state profiles:

Now, does me finding the answer to this prove that I’m a wiseass or a good researcher?

Myrr21: I resent that. Delaware has… um… tax free shopping.

And again, thank you for the welcome, everyone.

andygirl

Since i said hi to the gay guy, I guess I HAVE to say hi to the gay girl. Eighteen, huh? Hmmm, legal but young enough to be my daughter.

Hi, andygirl. I’m dropzone, lowercase, too. I’m a lot more open-minded than I let on, but at least you’re not another Canadian.

Good job with the mean elevation thing!

(I do love it when someone else does the work.)

Hi andygirl.

Guess what? I am one of the very few people who has ever been TO Delaware (not just through it). Last November, I attended a conference at the Hagley. I definitely saw at least one hill.

Nice to meetcha, andygirl. Have a beer – no, you’re not legal – Have a coke, sit a spell and stay a while.

Catrandom, coming over all folksy for some reason

At least one hill, eh? But can you prove it?

The Hagly is, imo, quite boring. As is the whole state.

In regards to Altoid consumption: gotta say that it has absolutely nothing to do with sex. I just eat them constantly. They clear my sinuses. And if you want to know, I did a survey of my friends who ate Altoids. They said that they didn’t do a thing for their sex lives. (Does that say a bit too much about my friends? Hmm.)

Of course, the only real Altoids are the peppermint.

andygirl

Those cinnamon ones will cause a little pain, though.

The mean elevation has nothing to do with it!!! That just tell you the average height above sea level. What is important would be the standard deviation from the mean.
I bet there are some really flat plains in africa, but since it is on a huge plateau, the mean elevation would be like 300 or something.
When we are talking about flatness, we are interested in how uniform the elevation is throughout the state. YOu previously posted that your county is at 12 ft but the average for the state is 60ft. That is a big difference. Such a big difference tells any thinking person that your state is not as FLAT as you are claiming. A flat state would be at 60ft EVERYWHERE in the state. Not just an average of that. If you had huge rolling hills that were 90 ft at the top and 30 feet at the bottom, you would have one bumpy ass state, but still a mean elevation of 60ft.

Anyway, as I said, Welcome to the Board. You will have to get used to people jumping in demanding proof and debunking false claims every now and then!!
