Have you ever stepped on Delaware?

Not enough to have driven thru, or been in an airport. Did you get your feet (shoes or not) on Delaware’s dirt, grass, snow, mud, or other natural footing?

Yes. One of my clients was the Proctor and Gamble plant in Dover.
I have been there for all four seasons.
As a native Southerner, I was quite surprised to see how pleasantly rural the majority of state appeared to be. Beautiful marshes. I’ll bet the fishing is great there.

I want to fly fish there.

Blast from the past: the “Resolved: Delaware Does Not Exist” thread. Link

I’ve been to the beach at Fenwick Island, just north of Ocean City, MD.

Many times. It would have been more, but one day it wasclosed.

I voted yes, but no, not dirt, grass, snow, or mud. We got out at a McDonald’s parking lot and went in to pee. We were driving from Maryland to Maryland.

That was this past Halloween.

I’m a big fan of Delaware’s beaches. I like big boardwalks with greasy pizza and french fries and salt water taffy and skee ball and souvenir shops and ferris wheels and what not. Generally, if I can go to the beach without touching sand or saltwater, I’m happy. Also, outlet malls.

Just this morning, as I live there.

I love Rehoboth Beach.

I spent a day at Tri State Bird Rehab facility. Cool place.

I used to take the Cape May-Lewes ferry regularly so I could avoid having to drive around the Capital beltway.

No one lives in Delaware.

I’ve been there a number of times. My brother is in school there so I’ve stayed with him. Oddly enough, though I live in Maryland, Delaware was the last state of the lower 48 I rode my motorcycle to.

Driving back from Philadelphia one time, I gassed up in Wilmington, I think.

I was at a Bugaboo creek steakhouse near Newark earlier this year. Also went to the Christiana Mall.

I remember one night in college when we drove to Middletown, Delaware just for dinner at a Waffle House. We had to go into a Food Lion to ask for directions. Turns out it was just across the parking lot hidden behind a Wawa.

I’ve taken the Cape May - Lewis Ferry many times as a kid with my parents on the way to Crisfield, Maryland for our annual Labor Day weekend camping trip. One time we took the ferry over and went to Rehoboth Beach.

Also visited the University of Delaware while in high school. Ended up applying and getting accepted there, but decided to save some money by going to an in-state (New Jersey) school.

I’m not sure. I know I’ve been through it several times in a car or bus, but can’t recall if I ever got out for a rest stop and actually put my feet on the Delaware earth (or pavement).

Spent a week in Lewes a couple years ago. Stayed at an awesome B&B. Nice, quiet little beach town. Much less crowded than the beaches further south down the coast.

Any other DE dopers other than me?

Bueller? Bueller?

That looks awesome. If I didn’t already have my summer vacation booked…

Delaware is great. The best thing about it is, no sales tax. If something costs .99 cents you will get a penny back.

Love Rehoboth Beach - Grotto’s pizza is addicting. The further south you go the more rural it bomes and is often referred to as Slower Lower Delaware. It’s the First State so give it a try.

Side note: in the 80’s it was against the law to sell alcohol on Sunday so we would drive 30 minutes south to OC, MD and they knew it because there was a beer store right over the state line.
