One thing I think I missed is they made a point to say they had to swap the card on all three Carriers but I am pretty sure they only swapped one. Did I miss something?
I think you must have because they did all three. Cap did the first one, Sam got the second and the last one was when Bucky attacked Cap.
Thanks! I figured I was remembering it wrong.
Saw it a few days ago, and really enjoyed it. Several of the action sequences were filmed in Cleveland, and it was good to see some familiar sites (the street battle just before Cap and the others get arrested by SHIELD agents was right next to where I work).
A great and fun surprise to see Jenny A. kick ass. Scarlett J. looked tired, though; didn’t like her hair this time either. Also not happy that SHIELD is being disbanded entirely - how will this affect the TV show?
Also odd that the villain was called the Winter Soldier - that phrase used to have a much different meaning:
Still, two thumbs up. Glad I saw it.
YES! I yelled “GO JENNY!” hahahaha
End-credits teaser question:
Who or what are “the twins?” I’m far more familiar with the DC universe than Marvel’s.
Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, who will feature prominently in Avengers 2
God, yes. I was so thrilled for that moment when it looked like the directors were ass-kickers as well, and especially that it was JA - I’ve loved her since that flash of tits back in Logan’s Run. And her cameo in Darkman.
But I should have seen the reveal coming. Sigh.
I may be out on a limb here, but she’s gone Uma Thurman… just not as attractive as in her first few years. She aged out of her last late-adolescent bloom into a rather plain-looking woman (by H’wood standards) and her monotone surliness is no longer cute or an asset. (You can say it’s the role; I saw her on Broadway and cats on a hot tin roof should not act like stuffed animals.)
The nurse/agent character was far prettier, IMHO, and Cobie Smulders had me shifting in my seat for the first time in many years. (Hey, everybody gets old.) But ScarJo… nice bod, but a washout in every other respect. Maybe fat lips aren’t enough any more.
Re twins: Ah. Got it. Ooh.
Redford’s been sporting around that same lameass style of hairpiece for almost thirty years now. Blonde-haired guys cannot pull of the whole “toupee” thing and unfortunately Redford decided to try to stay “blonde” a little too long.
Perhaps a darker shade or a closer crop might have worked better.
But hey…it’s his head.
Sorry, but we disagree:
Actors always look like complete shit in gauntlet photos. That’s why the paps love the practice.
She was beautiful then and she’s still very attractive. Just not in hit-and-run shots.
I guess my gasses are worse than I thought, because I don’t think she looks bad in that second shot…
Now Redford on the other hand, you could bury bodies in some of those wrinkles!
A few things I found interesting that I liked that I don’t think have been mentioned.
The inscription on Fury’s grave being the biblical quote from Pulp Fiction.
Hmm… perhaps two decades ago an undercover Nick Fury using the cover identity of “Jules” was able to successfully wrest the Tesseract from a bunch of underground criminals. It certainly would answer a lot of Pulp Fiction questions.*
I know some may not have liked Robert Redford, but if you’re going to remake a Three Days of the Condor with superheroes, damn he’s a great homage. I also just like in Spygame(where we got to see Redford and Pitt) working together get to see him working with in a sense his spiritual replacement when it comes to blonde sex symbols who like to direct.
I found the scene between Cap and Peggy Carter incredibly compelling, particularly the way it reveals at the end she’s suffering from Alzheimer’s and we realize that they’ve probably had this same conversation many time.
Also liked that they don’t reveal who she married and in the end Agent 13’s name was revealed as “Sharon” not “Sharon Carter”. I always thought it was a huge gaffe having grandmother and granddaughter having the same last name.
Carter is a common enough last name; could be she coincedentally found someone else named Carter. Also, Peggy was a very independent woman. Maybe she was one of the first to keep her maiden name regardless of whom she married.
Or maybe they wanted to keep things simple for kids reading comics in the 60s.
Some trivia: The mid credit tag was directed by Joss Whedon.
Or maybe Eleanor Roosevelt.
Whose maiden name was… Eleanor Roosevelt.
Just saw it in 3D. $36.50 for two tickets, two soft drinks and popcorn. Ouch.
But fuck the price, really enjoyed the movie. About as subtle as a brick commentary on NSA’s recent activities, which was fine with me. At first I thought they’d cast another actress as Black Widow. She didn’t really look the same until she fixed her make-up in her final scene. Good to see Falcon, hadn’t seen him since…1970’s era Cap cartoons maybe? Been a long time.
Not sure SHIELD is dead. Evolving seems more likely.
Wondering when the Iron Man 3 movie happened in relation to this…
Also wondering who some of the targets listed in the dialogue that included Stephen Strange were…a baseball player in the midwest?
Further questions:
-
Did anybody see if Abed survived the shootout at Launch Central?
-
When will they bring back Rumlow as Crossbones? Cap 3?
Observations:
“On your left.” That’s going to crack me up for weeks.
Glad to see Agent 13 and Maria Hill get some serious screen time, although, as usual, Sam Jackson stole the show.
Loved the tombstone.
Loved the mention of Doctor Strange.
Overall I loved it. ScarJo was excellent. She really needs her own set of movies now.
Anybody else think that Mace Windu, er, Fury was getting out his lightsaber just before he disappeared from his shot-up car?
