Captain America: Civil War trailer

Nitpicking but I think you should also give Len Wein some credit. Wein wrote Giant-Size X-Men #1 which introduced the new characters. Wein then wrote the “plots” for the first two monthly issues while Claremont wrote the “scripts”. Claremont himself has also said that Wein deserves a lot of the credit for the creation of the new team.

Fair point.

It’s hard not to read this as mildly insulting, so just try to keep comments like it at bay when not in the Pit.

Speaking of excellent superhero movies.

Like your biological clock is going like “this” (stomps foot 3x)?

I love me some Mod on Mod…

You realize, of course, that this implies the existence of Uncle Ben Gambini.

Is this really still a thing? Marisa Tomei will be 52 years old when the MCU Spider-Man movie comes out. Having a 16 year old nephew at that age is pretty normal.

Aunt May has always been depicted as considerably older in the comics. On the other hand, Marisa Tomei is still pretty easy on the eyes…

Aunt May is usually depicted as impossibly ancient in the comics/cartoon/Raimi trilogy and its always bugged me. Sure, it’s possible she could be that old, but it’s much more likely that she’d be in her 50s.

FWIW, my mom’s baby sister didn’t have her daughter until she was in her late 30’s. By the time my cousin is 16, my mom will be 70.

And the comic is mostly from Peter’s point of view, and to a 16-year-old, 50-something is ancient. In fact, a 16-year-old literally told me exactly that, just yesterday.

But she was drawn like a dowdy 70 year old woman until, I think, the late 90s. Then she got kind of a makeover that made her look vaguely older but stylish.

There was a comic book miniseries called Trouble that was published in 2003. It never explicitly said so but it strongly implied its lead character was Aunt May as a teenager. And it revealed that May got pregnant as a teenager and is Peter Parker’s real mother.

So you’re saying Peter Parker “Fredo’d” Uncle Ben?

“I know it was you Uncle Ben. You broke my heart”

It was just business.

So that would make Aunt May about 33 when Spiderman was 16? Does not fit.

I didn’t say Barzini; I said Gambini. But you don’t understand. See, twenty years ago, I became an actor, and there was this prominent stage actor in New York; his name was Vincent Gambini? Maybe you heard of him? No? Never heard of him? Doesn’t matter. Anyway, I hadda change my name, which I did legally, so now I practice law under my legally changed stage name, which is Jerry [knocks over chess pieces]allo.

Spider Man drops into the discussion

“Hi Opal!”

She could also be Peter Parker’s Great Aunt May, making her a sister of his grandparents instead of his parents.

Compare to my various second cousins, who are just addressed as “Cousin X” instead of “Second-Cousin X”.

There’s no graceful way out of this for me so {smoke bomb}
