carbs + dairy = comfort food (?)

Seems to be the magic formula…what says you? What’s your favorite “comfort food” ?

I’m trying to think of stuff that fits your formula.

The obvious is macaroni and cheese. That’s definitely comfortable.

Scalloped potatoes are very nice.

And then there’s fresh corn on the cob slathered in real butter…MMMMMM!!

Milk and cookies is a classic, surely?

Liver and lima beans for me.

Cheesy mashed potatoes!

Pizza
Grilled Cheese

Oh, lordy, my vote has GOTTA go for milk and cookies!

(Milk and chocolate cake is a close second, though)

PBJ and milk is my late-night insomnia fix.

A bowl of cereal in milk

Ice cream.

I’ve never had those together, but that’s really sounding good to me right about now.

For me, comfort food is pretty much any type of stew, often served with some type or mixture of root vegetables. (I particularly like rutabagas.)

Sugar & fat are the principle components of comfort food. My brain loves me when I drink a nice cold glass of chocolate milk. So much that I often don’t stop until I’ve got a nasty belly ache. And maybe not even then.

In countries where dairy isn’t popular, people seem to eat a lot of fatty meat. And I mean forkfuls of meat with big hunks of attached fat. I wonder if that’s their comfort food.

A baked potato with tons of sour cream and butter (and salt and pepper). Favorite comfort food, makes me want to lick the plate. Gah, why’d I have to give up carbs…

Potatoes in any form. Unfortunately, for me potatoes are addictive and put on pounds very, very fast.

I disagree, but then again, I carb load!

What about nachos or chips and dip?

I’m confused by this response. What do you disagree with? His/her taste for potatoes? Or somehow his/her propensity to put on weight by consuming them? I’m confused because of the “carb load” comment.

Would fruit yogurt sprinkled with granola count? I’ve lost 50+ pounds eating the stuff religiously…

I thought comfort food has to include 2 of the holy trinity - fat, sugar and salt. For me salty+fat = peanuts or hot chips, or sweet+fat=muffins/cake/biscuits, almost always with chocolate. Salt+fat+sugar is something like salted caramel eclairs, luckily only available at a French patisserie in South Melbourne, just a little too far away to drive to regularly.
