Carob Syrup

While on holiday in Cyprus last year our hotel gave us a complimentary bottle of brandy ( that soon went ! ) and a bottle of carob syrup. I have never heard of this product before . The syrup is very sweet and has the consistancy of maple syrup. The bottle says it can be used ( like honey ) as a substitute for sugar and is supposed to be good for your stomach. As yet we have not used this and would like to hear from other dopers about this product and if they have ever had any.

Do you mean Karo Syrup ???

It fits the bill of what you are talking about, and is sweet. Carob is typically a healthy alternative used to replace cocoa.

Sounds kind of sicly sweet. How was it??

Cartooniverse

If you mean Karo syrup, it’s used to make pecan pie at our house!

Pecan Pie
2 Eggs, Slightly Beaten
1 Cup Light Karo Syrup
1/4 Cup Sugar
2 Tablespoons Flour
1/4 Teaspoon Salt
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
1-1/4 Cups Broken Texas native pecans
Preheat oven to 375 deg F.

Spread pecans in an unbaked 9-inch pie shell.

Mix remaining ingredients and pour over pecans.

Bake slowly at 375 deg F. until done, about 1 hour.

There really is such a thing as carob syrup.

Y’know, it might be polite to assume the poster isn’t completely illiterate, and can maybe READ the difference between Karo and carob. Carob syrup is a native product of Cyprus (and Sicily, etc.), and a reasonable gift for a visitor there. It has a molasses-like consistency and can be substituted for chocolate syrup, or used as a sweetener and flavoring.

Carob pods are a sort of fruit, and the pulp is refined into various forms which are often used as low-fat substitutes for chocolate. It’s rich in fruit sugars, and can be used as a sweetener. It’s not really anything like chocolate, but its flavor is satisfying in its own right.

If, on the other hand, Rayne man is illiterate: Karo is corn syrup.

It wasn’t my intent to presume anyones literacy or condescend.

Pardon my post.

No offence taken. And it was carob !

I didn’t mean to impugn your ability to read either. Please accept my apologies. I’m glad you liked the taste.
