Cartoon tributes to dead actors

I saw thison Reddit today. Tributes to actors through the characters they are most remembered for; always gets me in the feels.

Some days back you had thisone for Peter Sallis.

And my favoriteone: last year for Anton Yelchin.

Any others?

It would be nice if someone collected them in one place. I generally find them on Reddit but I don’t think there is a particular sub-reddit for them.

This for Robin Williams

This for Leonard Nimoy

sniff all this dust…

I’m sorry, but I don’t get the Leonard Nimoy one.

It comes from The Big Bang Theory, where Sheldon comes up with an alternative to rock-paper-scissors, rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock.

Video here

Rock Paper Scissors Spock Lizard actually predates BBT by several years. Here’s the original (co-)creator’s page on it.

A couple from Bloom County:

Carrie Fisher

Stretching the definition of actor a bit, David Bowie

And then there’s this.

I admit I didn’t know who Mel Blanc was or that one man voiced so many of those iconic characters. That is a lovely example of this kind of tribute.

He did many other voices as well, notably Barney Rubble on The Flintstones. He also did Jack Benny’s Maxwell on radio:

Please tell me you know who Jack Benny was.... :(

This Bloom County from a long, long time ago.

Even while it got to me, I still cracked up that they included Lego Batman.

This one got me the most.

This is one Disney Studios released after Walt died: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/3d/76/27/3d7627c0ccebd6396ba95fb3ee9c3d0e.jpg

There’s one for Jim Henson where Bert tells Ernie that it’s all right to cry, but I can’t find it.

I think he fits better than Dark Knight Returns Batman.

The other four are all from video media, like West’s (LEGO, Burton, Shumacher, Nolan), and DKR is antithetical to West’s Batman in a way even Nolan’s is not.

The TAS Batman would have been more appropriate, IMO.

This one:

Marci Al, I don’t get either one of yours. How are either of those an obituary tribute?

It didn’t say anything about obituary tributes. Just tributes. But yeah, it should be characters portrayed.

Also not an actor, but Disney Corp expressed condolences on the death of Jim Henson.

(I can’t find the Bert and Ernie editorial cartoon either. I clearly remember it, though.)

Also not an actor but when Gene Roddenberry died, Starlog ran a cartoon showing a photon torpedo tube being launched from the Enterprise, ala the end of Wrath of Khan, with his name and dates on it. A plethora of other Trek ships stood on line as a showing of respect. (Couldn’t find it online.)

I remember that one, too.

When Johnny Cash died, cartoonist David Fitzsimmons drew Cash standing before St. Peter. Cash is dressed in his black outfit and carrying his guitar. St. Peter is holding out a white robe and a harp and Cash just says, “No, thanks.”

Who is being referred to here?
