On the other hand…while I don’t think Weir’s running out of steam just yet, if HE thinks he is…I’d rather he went out with a bang.
That’s ok. Casey and Andy isn’t really all that great of a comic anyway. Now, if VG Cats were ending I’d probably shed a few tears. But for a talentless hack who doesn’t respect the medium? Meh.
I’m heartbroken.
No more plaintive cries of “More nekkid Satan pix, plz!”. No more Don Cindy cheesecake. No more Misadventures of Jenn.
I only recently discovered C&A, and spent an entire morning sneaking in a complete read of the archives. I hope he will leave the site up so I can at least get an historic daily fix.
In the latest news update he said he plans on leaving the archives up. And he also said that he’s starting a new webcomic. Hopefully it will be as good as Casey and Andy. He won’t tell us what it is, but I remember a while back he did a cheesecake on some unknown character and he said it was from one he’s “thinking” about doing.
You know, if I were the type to have crushes on cartoon characters, I’d totally have one on Satan.
I sometimes wonder if the guy who made that made multiple accounts here to post messages in support of it… because I’ve seen mention of the strip numerous times, and every time I went to the site to see what they were talking about and saw a poorly drawn, unfunny, unwitty, completely uninteresting waste of space.
I mean, seriously folks, every high school in the nation must have some kid who can draw better than that and who can beg, borrow or steal a little bit of humor, cleverness or even just soul to put into it.
Casey and Andy never worked well as a set of standalone strips. I saw the odd one a few times, didn’t see what the fuss was about, and promptly forgot about it.
Then I saw one of the strips where they try to out-science Quantum Cop to get out of a speeding ticket, which was pretty good. And since Quantum Cop said something like “you guys are slipping, I didn’t even have to get out the flip chart”, I figured there was more of the same and started running through them backwards. Which didn’t work at all, so I started from the beginning.
If you do that, you’ll realise that Casey and Andy builds heavily on what went before, with little running gags and in-jokes and developing character histories. Personally I think it’s about as funny as anything I’ve ever seen, and I’m going to miss it!
(And anyone who doesn’t think the Goths summoning Satan strips were funny would probably not get along with me very well…)
I discovered it through a link on The Straight Dope, and I was hooked right away. I’ve read the entire archive at least three times.
No, he’s not the world’s greatest artist (though he did improve dramatically over the course of the strip). But he does have great characters, some good jokes, and he’s a true geek like the rest of us.
