Cast a movie with actors of yesteryear

You have been give all of the money and resources to make a big-budget movie. The only limitation is, you must cast it with at least three actors who are no longer with us, and therefore you also have been given a handy time machine. Anyone who asks? It’s just CGI. Who do you choose? How does the time machine work? Sorry, that’s classified and you’re under an NDA.

The Justice Society of America in WWII!

Cary Grant as Clark Kent
Gregory Peck as Bruce Wayne
Gene Tierney as Diana Prince
Jimmy Stewart as Jay Garrick
Alan Ladd as Alan Scott
James Cagney as Al Pratt
Mickey Rooney as Johnny Thunder…

No Wildcat? You gotta have that blue-collar guy on the team.

Victor McLaglen as Wildcat.

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century

Billy Campbell is still alive, but take the time machine back to about 1990 so he can play Buck Rogers.
Erin Gray is still alive, but take the time machine back to about 1980 so she can play Wilma Deering again.
Louis Gossett, Jr. as Professor Huer
Brian Donlevy as Killer Kane
Persis Khambatta as Ardala
Lon Chaney, Jr., as Grallo

Tarzan at the Earth’s Core

Gregory Peck as Tarzan
Erroll Flynn as Jason Gridley
Maureen O’Hara as Jana, the Red Flower of Zoram
Conrad Veidt as Captain von Horst

A Zeppelin, and dinosaurs. Who really cares what actors you cast?

Stargate
Humphrey Bogart Col. Jack O’neill
Peter Lory Dr. Daniel Jackson
Sydney Greenstreet Ra
Nancy Kulp Kathryn Langford
Mickey Rooney Skarra

MGM Proudly presents:

Star Wars:

Mickey Rooney as Luke
Judy Garland as Leia
Stan Laurel as C3PO
Oliver Hardy as R2D2
Errol Flynn as Obi Wan/Old Ben
Basil Rathbone as Darth Vader
Clark Gable as Tarkin
Fatty Arbuckle as Porkins

and

Fred Astaire as Han Solo

(no word if they all get together and “put on a show!”)

Another Aubrey/Maturin movie. Maybe from the volume where they went to Pulo Prabang in southeast Asia - that’s my favorite one.

Alan Hale, Jr.: Jack Aubrey
Burgess Meredith: Stephen Maturin
Elizabeth Taylor: Diana Villiers
Kay Kendall: Sophie Williams

I have learned that Doctor Strange was based somewhat on Vincent Pricee.

I really doi not care who else is in the movie. I just need very badly to see Vincent Price play Doctor Strange

Alien

Humphrey Bogart as Dallas
Robert Mitchum as Ash
Vivien Leigh as Lambert
Sidney Poitier as Parker
Peter Lorre as Brett
Frank Sinatra as Kane

and

Audrey Hepburn as Ripley

Excellent choice. I’m with you on not having a full cast, but I would really enjoy seeing Humphrey Bogart taking on the Nazis as Indiana Jones.

Vincent Price as Doctor Strange
Keye Luke as the Ancient One
Philip Ahn as Wong
Edward G Robinson as Baron Mordo
Barbara Stanwyck as Clea

David Bowie as Elric of Melnibone
Ralph Richardson as Moonglum
Erroll Flynn as Rackhir
Basil Rathbone as Yrkoon
James Hong as Theleb Kaarna
Vincent Price as Arioch

Steve Reeves as Conan the Barbarian
Gale Sondergaard as Belit
Yul Brynner as Thoth-Amon

Hmm, too waifish, I’d say. Since you already chose Humphrey Bogart as Dallas, why not Lauren Bacall as Ripley? Fewer time machine stops.

I thought of that. A good choice.

I pictured this as Audrey’s big breakthrough role. No one would think her tough enough to survive. (like how no one expected Ripley to be the lone survivor in 1979)

Lord of the Rings

Cary Grant as Frodo
David Niven as Sam
Roddy McDowell as Merry
Tom Courtenay as Pippin
Charleton Heston as Gandalf
John Huston as Saruman
Gregory Peck as Aragorn
Audrey Hepburn as Arwen
Basil Rathbone as Elrond
Barbara Stanwyck as Galadriel
Erroll Flynn as Legolas
Victor McLaglen as Gimli
Brian Donlevy as Borimir
Ronald Coleman as Faramir
Michael Rennie as Denethor
Ilona Massey as Eowyn
Peter Lorre as Gollum
Peter Ustinov as Theoden

You don’t think he would be a better fit for Gandalf? He did a fantastic job as the voice of Gandalf in Rankin Bass animated Hobbit.

In a long beard, Heston looks prettier.

An American Werewolf in London

Ed Norton as David (the Werewolf)
Jack Black as Jack Goodman (the undead friend)
Rachel Weisz as Nurse Alex
Ewan McGregor as the guy who tells the “Remember the Alamo” joke in the Slaughtered Lamb
Griffin Dunne (throwback) as the guy who tells them to “keep off the moors, stay on the path”
