Right, because the entire fate of live-action comic book movies will be decided by a movie that is being released in February that has only one A-list star, is not the subject of a huge promotional effort, and is based on a character that doesn’t have a huge recognition outside the fanboy community.
And not, for example, by a movie that will be released in May based on a character who was also the subject of a television series for several years and that is being headed up by the creative team that was responsible for one of the most commercially successful martial arts films of the last decade and will star, among others, last year’s Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actress.
Or the sequel to a very successful film from several years ago based on a team of characters that is featured in the #1 selling comic series of all time, and had its own cartoon show for several years.
Or, heck, even the film due out in a year or two that will be a sequel to the film from last year that had the biggest opening weekend of all time and was the top-grossing movie last year.
So, casting:
Clark Kent - really depends on the age they’re going for. I’d be curious to see Tom Welling as the adult Clark Kent/ Superman, since he always seems a little old for “Smallville.”
Lois Lane- Kate Hudson, Jennifer Connelly, or Emma Caulfield.
Jimmy Olsen - hmm, tough one, but I’m going to go with Kieran Culkin. Seth Green is an interesting choice, but might be too old.
Lex Luthor - Jeremy Irons, Patrick Stewart or Michael Rosenbaum.
Perry White - Jon Voight, Fred Thompson or Fred Gant (who plays, among others, the new principal on “Smallville”). But hey, the bar on this is set really high after J.K. Simmons as JJJ in “Spider-Man” and Jackie Cooper in the original movies.
