Cast the new Superman movie

I just read in the Detroit Free Press (sorry no link to the story)that a new director has signed on to do the latest Superman movie, and that the only word on casting is that the once-proposed Clark/Super-- Nick Cage-- is out.

So who would you put in the movie?

Here’re my ideas:

Clark/ Superman: Owen Wilson (with dark hair)
Lois Lane: Alicia Witt
Jimmy Olsen: Ashton Kutcher
Perry White: Kevin Spacey

Beyond those four, I don’t have any opinions yet.

(Go ahead, mock away, let’s see you do better)

Happy

Clark Kent - Colin Ferrel (just because he’s THE man in H-wood)
Lois Lane - I must concur…Alicia Witt…yummy
Jimmy Olsen - Seth Green
Perry White - Jack Nicholson

Anyways, who cares about freakin’ Superman? It’s been done. Ben Affleck in Daredevil should be so crap no one will touch live action comic book movies again.

Turn Superman into a porn film maybe…or a musical?

Right, because the entire fate of live-action comic book movies will be decided by a movie that is being released in February that has only one A-list star, is not the subject of a huge promotional effort, and is based on a character that doesn’t have a huge recognition outside the fanboy community.

And not, for example, by a movie that will be released in May based on a character who was also the subject of a television series for several years and that is being headed up by the creative team that was responsible for one of the most commercially successful martial arts films of the last decade and will star, among others, last year’s Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actress.

Or the sequel to a very successful film from several years ago based on a team of characters that is featured in the #1 selling comic series of all time, and had its own cartoon show for several years.

Or, heck, even the film due out in a year or two that will be a sequel to the film from last year that had the biggest opening weekend of all time and was the top-grossing movie last year.

So, casting:

Clark Kent - really depends on the age they’re going for. I’d be curious to see Tom Welling as the adult Clark Kent/ Superman, since he always seems a little old for “Smallville.”

Lois Lane- Kate Hudson, Jennifer Connelly, or Emma Caulfield.

Jimmy Olsen - hmm, tough one, but I’m going to go with Kieran Culkin. Seth Green is an interesting choice, but might be too old.

Lex Luthor - Jeremy Irons, Patrick Stewart or Michael Rosenbaum.

Perry White - Jon Voight, Fred Thompson or Fred Gant (who plays, among others, the new principal on “Smallville”). But hey, the bar on this is set really high after J.K. Simmons as JJJ in “Spider-Man” and Jackie Cooper in the original movies.

I’d like to see some new talent in there. Aston Kutcher seems fine as Jimmy Olsen but other than that how 'bout some people that fit the parts instead of a star-studded hack-fest? There’s no way Colin Farrel could pull off the boy scout.

Isn’t it amazing how well cast that show is, especially for being on one of the “minor” networks? I can hardly imagine anyone better as Lex Luthor than Michael Rosenbaum, he’s so good in that role. That is, provided this movie is set in a timeline that Rosenbaum is about the “right” age for the part. I think Welling would also be a pretty solid choice for a movie role of the part … he’s pretty good at pulling off the mild-mannered civilian, and yet he’s got the look to be the superhero type too.

Actually, in the same vein as Cisco’s contention to get some fresh meat in there…

Anybody watching Joe Millionaire?

Now put him in the blue suit and red cape.

I’m a straight male, and that thought gets me excited!

Oh please NO!!! Superman with that whiney voice. I can only stand that man in small, small roles.

Oh, and I forgot:

Jack Black as Lex Luthor.

Happy

Superman/Clark Kent - David Denman - he plays the football player who can’t hear on The replacements. He seems athletic and has a clean cut all american type look.

Lois Lane - Kate Hudson is a good pick. I’d love to pick Kristen Kreuk but she already plays Lana Lang

Jimmy Olsen - Ashton Kutcher was good but he’s kinda tall (6’3) and I think you’d want him to be smaller than Clark Kent. So I’m going with the Kieren Culkin idea.

Perry White - Brian Cox

Lex Luther - Michael Rosenbaum is a good choice. I would think that for a movie, you’d want to make him up to look maybe 5 to 10 years older.
