Casting for The Fantastic Four has been announced

What was it about that Miles guy from the last FF movie that made them say, “That’s him! That’s Mr. fantastic!”? He so didn’t look the part, imho.

I wonder if they’ll go CGI or practical for the Thing?

Because he was a rapidly rising star, having just come off Whiplash and the Divergent films.

As for Sue Storm, again, I think Kate Mara was cast perfectly because she’s pretty but completely dull as an actress.

Aren’t the F4’s power’s a reflection of their personality? Mr Fantastic tries to be everywhere at once, Johnny Storm is hot-headed and impulsive, The Thing charges right into everything. There’s a reason Sue Storm’s power are “invisibility” and “shields”.

I think those rationalizations were retrofitted by later writers. The superpowers were off the shelf tropes (and one a dierect ripoff of a previous Marvel character) The personalities of the three male characters were a rehash of Kirby’s Challengers of the Unknown and Sue was just the girlfriend/wife whose purpose was (at best) to be the team’s spy or (at worst) just be in the damsel in distress. It took decades for that to change.

That sounds about right. I’ve only read a few F4 comics so I’m not as familiar with all the details of their backstory. Probably because they seemed kind of boring to me. Like a sort of 1950s/60s family with superpowers. Wise dad goes off to work (mostly fighting Dr Doom or Galactus or whoever aliens), two well meaning but rambunctious “kids”, Mom’s the diplomat who quietly holds them all together. Pascal has been playing a lot of “paternal” roles lately (The Mandalorean, Last of Us), so maybe that’s what they are going for? Which wouldn’t be bad IMHO. The previous movies tended to present the F4 as the typical band of hot young hot shot superheroes.

I guess I’m also a bit confused how the F4 fits with the larger MCU. I know they are leading up to the “Secret Wars” storyline (which I do remember from the 80s) and are in the middle of the convoluted “Kang / Multiverse” storyline. Both of which fit the F4 backstory as I recall.

But I also recall the whole Kree / Skrull war featuring prominently in the F4 backstory. Are we all done with that now since the conclusion of the disappointing Secret Invasion?

And introducing Dr Doom and Galactus creates the same problems The Eternals introduced. Basically here are these big important characters and events causing major problems that should assemble every Avenger that ever was, but now need some elaborate contrived story to explain why no one mentioned them over the past decade?

Like do we introduce YET ANOTHER secret highly advanced nation in the form of Dr Doom’s Latverian on top of Wakanda and Atlantis (meanwhile trying to explain why the US and NATO is powerless against them in spite of decades of subcontracting military tech to Stark Industries along with access to the detritus from various failed alien invasions)?

If you succeed in your quest to find logic in comic book movies, I hope you’ll report back

Stark doesn’t sell weapons anymore. But Latveria isn’t a secret country. I’d imagine everyone knows that Doom’s in charge, but he minds his own business (usually) and as long as you don’t hassle Doom, Doom doesn’t hassle you. For all we know Doom’s always been there and it’s just never come up. Were there Latverian Skrulls? Probably, just not for very long.

More likely to be based on the 2015 version.

I once thought the Negative Zone would be a good threat for the FF’s MCU debut, but even that looks a little too much like Ant Man’s Quantum Realm.

Maybe they’ll bring in the Psycho-Man, or Annihilus. I agree that they should save DOOM for later.

I thought Ben Grimm was from the Lower East Side. Not what it used to be either, but less gentrified than Hell’s Kitchen.

The real casting question: who plays his Aunt Petunia?

Well, Mary Tyler Moore is no longer available…

Have you ever seen him clean-shaven?

No one has reached out to me yet, I may need a new agent.

Someone who can really herald you.

It’s been so many years since I’ve surfed that I’m a lot more silver now…

I’m not much of a comics book reader but the whole “Silver Surfer” thing seemed really silly and obviously meant to capitalize on the surfing craze. I suppose a few decades later it would have been a Silver Skateboarder.

The Purple Parkourer.

The Silver Surfer was by no means the silliest sports themed FF adversary.
