I don’t see his mother as snooty at all. She’s supposed to be bohemian, the antithesis of the daughter, and really, Rick, too. He seems to be somewhat wild, but he’s been the caretaker for his daughter, while his mother pretty much left him to raise himself.

Yeah, I think you might be conflating Castle’s mother with the character she played in Dharma and Greg. Not at all the same person, other than having expensive taste.
I did think that as I wrote my post, but she may not be a rich snob in Castle, she still swans around a lot, not contributing much.
