Them bones don’t heal as fast when you get older. And break easier.
Remember when Jackie Gleason broke his leg while doing an episode of the “Honeymooners” ?
Yeah, his knee. This site has video of the Gerald Ford-esque trip.
Man he went down HARD. And he looked like a freakin’ rag doll at first. Ouch!
If only the CIA had known they needed a strategically placed step to bring Fidel down…
Bwahaha!
So, is this incident expected to reduce Fidel’s 140 year life expectancy?
Last year Fidel got a physical and his doctor claimed he was fit enough to live that long.
This was the Daily Show’s moment of zen last night.
Castro obviously didn’t trip. No, he did that thing where you don’t know there’s a step down in front of you and you put your foot into thin air and in the middle of trying to regain your balance while tipping forward your foot suddenly hits the ground and you go ass over teakettle.
I hate when I do that. But hey, I laughed at the clip.
He appeared to be fatigued.
Nice headfirst pick up of the 10/2 split on the folding chairs too.
Anyone know where there’s a link to the video in a non-proprietary format which doesn’t require a virusware player to watch?
Not sure this fulfills all your requirements, but here’s an iFilm link.
I share your feelings about RealPlayer, and refuse to install it. Thankfully, there are alternatives out there, like Real Alternative, which will play all Real media without putting anything annoying on your PC. If the download site I’ve linked to doesn’t work for whatever reason, just Google for “real alternative,” and you’ll get links to a bunch of choices.
That ain’t all. In someone as old as Fidel, the long convalescence following a major bone fracture can, in and of itself, be a hazard. One of the keys to a long life is to remain active, to get out and about, and do things. The loss of mobility caused by a bad fracture seems to produce a cascade effect, and other systems start shutting down.
I saw it happen with my father (who was, at the time, ten years older than Fidel, however), who broke a femur stepping off a curb in much the same way that Fidel missed that last step. His femur was mending well enough, but within four months, he spiraled down, and died. One of his doctors had pulled me aside and predicted it pretty accurately.
I’m not sure I’d be confident enough to issue a prediction, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Fidel die within a year.
Fidel is a pinky-out drinker. Whodathunkit?
I know he’s an evil communist dictator who’s been ruling with an iron fist for far too long, but when I watch that video, I just see an old guy taking a nasty spill, and I feel bad for him.
Me too…
I, too, hate having my ass over a teakettle.
What I find amusing about this is his (Castro’s) staements after his fall…telling the Cuban people “not to be concerned”, and “don’t panic, I’m OK”.
Does he really think that people LOVE him? When this bastard shows up to be judged, I hope the thousands of souls that he had condemned to death and prison, come back to haunt him.
Well, some people did mourn Joseph Stalin!
