I’m getting a bit bored with it. I suppose I’ll finish it just to discuss it with my daughter (she keeps picking it up to see where I am) and some of the imagery is beautiful, but I’m not falling in love with it.
Wheeljack, I have to say, the In the Pale Moonlight episode of** DS9** is probably my most favoritest Star Trek episodes ever!
According to the extremely useful TV Guide Post-Strike Status List, House will return on April 28 when it moves to a new Monday timeslot.
I had the exact same experience last night. I had heard about that show, and thought, “How horrible! I would never watch it.” Of course, I got sucked in – and you have to stay to the end to see who gets eliminated. I’m sure the contestants were chosen much more for the drama of the parents than for the talent of the children, most of whom seemed either embarrassed or terrified to be there.
I was gonna say that exact thing, but instead, I’ll just add my favorite-ever Trek lines:
“He’s in his quarters. I left him with the distinct impression that if he tries to force the door, it may explode.”
“Let’s hope that’s just an impression.”
“It’s best not to dwell on such minutiae.”
And the summary quote for the episode:“I lied. I cheated. I bribed men to cover up the crimes of other men. I was an accessory to murder. But most damning of all… I think I can live with it… And if I had to do it all over again… I would. Garak was right about one thing – a guilty conscience is a small price to pay for the safety of the Alpha Quadrant. So I’ll learn to live with it…Because I can live with it…I can live with it.”
Another great episode is “Treachery, Faith, and the Great River”, which adds some backstory to Ferengi religion involving the Great Material Continuum. Exciting for Ferengi fans like me.
DS9 is by far the best Trek series IMO. TNG’s right behind it.
I agree. I’m looking forward to seeing how the last two seasons play out. It’s such a shame about Voyager. That show was ass every time I tried it, and lordy how I tried.
We’re watching the season of Battlestar Galactica that just came out on DVD, and I cannot freaking stand the TWOP recapper. Why the hell is the guy so smart and perceptive and also the world’s most annoying, emotional writer? It’s driving me crazy.
Well, each season had 90% of the episodes dedicated to creepy monsters, and only a couple were to do with the alien conspiracy mythology. I think they can rustle up a few supernatural entities for Mulder and Scully to contend with. Word is it’s really good, judging by the scuttlebutt within the studio who have seen it coming together.
I loved the bbc-import series ‘Ballykissangel’ that was shown on PBS in the US. It was a quasi-drama-quirky series that apparently gave cutie-patootie Colin Ferrell his start. Colin (did I mention he’s as cute as can be?) played a working class guy and did absolutely terrific understated work in it. I miss it. Haven’t seen the series on dvd in my local video store.
I’m rereading Perdido Street Station, and am so in love with the whole creationn that occasionally I have to stop reading and just stare at the page, trying to savour it. I’ve been trying not to buy books that I own back home, but as soon as I’ve finished with this one I’m going to have to pick up the other two. Does anyone know if there’s a new book due any time soon?
