To some who know me on here this thread will sound like a broken record. But here I am looking for some advice.
I’ve met a very nice girlfriend who unfortunately lives very far away from me in Vancouver. We are in a long distance relationship. So far she has been a great person to be with. We get along well, have lots in common, and have similar values. I have been seeing her for about four months and we skype everyday. As well we generally try and visit each other 1-2 times a month. She is 35 and I am 32.
So of course this relationship could go towards us being together if we can solve the long-distance problem. So one option is for me to revive a plan I had for myself in my twenties when I was really frustrated with my career. I could go back to school. UBC has a two year computer program I could take. I could also do a masters in Education there.
The computer program appeals to me in that I could try something fresh. I’m currently a music teacher in school.
This year teaching has been relatively good. The last three years were painfully not fulfilling. So I’m riding a good wave right now…knock on wood. I’m working in the city again which has been sooo good. I’ll probably never go back to rural unless I really want to settle down away from lots of people. I love my social life. Also I’m employed at 90%, and I’m only temporary until the end of the school year. If I get a permanent contract at the end of the year, I might have set myself up for a good career here in the city. Which means I could choose to stay here.
I won’t move away just to be with the girl. I need to only move if it benefits me as whole, and so I have a reason to move in case the relationship doesn’t work out. So going school is the best option I believe if I choose to move. I can apply as a teacher in BC, but it doesn’t look like the happiest place to work right now. Of course she could move here too…it’s an option that hasn’t been ruled out. She has a social work degree.
So maybe this GF is a catalyst for change? Anyone ever gone through something similar? Any thoughts on my options?
