Nah, I’ve only gotten to the core twice. I quit for the evening shortly after my last post. I’ll get it after a few more tries, I’m sure. I’ve heard there’s 2 different endings, and I’d ask if there’s still anything I can do to choose between them, but I’m definitely going to be replaying this either way. And that’s a huge compliment to Pixel because I never replay games anymore.
There are 3 endings hehe. FWIW, I’d use a FAQ to find them out, b/c it’s not something you’re likely to discover on the 2nd playthrough. I did anyway. One’s easy to find, but the other requires a fair amount of specific actions to be done that you probably won’t notice right away. The game doesn’t prompt you.
And to get to the third ending you need to conquer a section that is “Nintendo hard”. I eventually cheated using a trainer program (PC version) just to see the third ending. Someday I plan to truly conquer the “Bonus Level of Hell” unassisted.
I have no problem using a guide on the 2nd playthrough. Is the first ending where you fly away on a dragon, about halfway through the game? I already did that.
I can get to the core fairly easily now. Problem is, I only have ~32hps if I’m really lucky (I have 45 total, should I have more?), I’m out of rockets, and my machine gun is at level 2. I’m basically a sitting duck. I haven’t gotten it below maybe 70%.
The max possible is 55 IIRC. Even with 32hp, I don’t see how you are getting hit so much on the core. The only attack that tended to hit me was the spitting of the circular small orb thingies.
Also, do you have your life pot? You get one from Yubaba or w/e the old witch’s name was.
I blew my life pot right after getting it, lol. Didn’t recognize its value at the time.
I’m not sure exactly what’s killing me. It’s not annihilating me quickly-- the fight lasts awhile-- I just can’t damage the core much with no good weapons, and I have to get pretty close to hit it. Sue is definitely taking some HP from me, because if I kill her then Misery starts rapid-firing rockets up my ass.
The weird thing about the sword is that it levels down from MAX to level 2 the first time I get hit. And at level 2 you’re right, it’s still badass, but it doesn’t travel very far at all. I know I could smoke the core with rockets, but I can’t get past the doctor without using them all.
The final fight was easy once I realized what ordered I needed to take them out in: Misery, Sue, Core.
I am just blown away that one guy made this all by himself. It is absolutely one of the top 5 best games I’ve ever played, and I’ve played a lot of games for a lot of years, going back to the pre-NES era.
Now they need to port I Wanna Be the Guy to Wiiware.
Sweet, now you can try for the best ending! It’s also fun to try getting weapons you missed the first time (Spur, Snake, Nemesis), and hidden items (Alien Medal, Curly’s underwear, Chaco’s lipstick, etc)
I’ll definitely play it again (and probably a 3rd time, eventually), but probably not right away. And next time I’ll use a walkthrough and get everything.
