Cavemen: I tried, but no....it was unwatchable

The Cavemen. What the fuck were they thinking? Anyone catch it? It was so bad that I couldn’t make it through 5 minutes. Did I give up too early on a great show?

I caught a few minutes at the end of last night’s episode. I like that it didn’t have a laugh track and would almost watch it just for that.

I didn’t think it was funny, but five minutes isn’t enough to make a judgment. I haven’t heard anyone say they think it’s funny though.

We watched the first episode and while it wasn’t good enoughy to make us want to keep watching it, it didn’t feel awful, just not worthy.

I tried some trailers online. They were bad enough to convince me not to waste space when I record each week.

If only there had been some way to predict ahead of time that this show would be so bad.

I know…I mean the fact that it is a gimmick show based on a commercial seems like it’d be a hit.

But that’s just it. The commercials are a one trick pony. I severely doubted the sitcom would be any better. I was right. (For once.)

See, what you guys don’t get is that the ‘caveman’ thing is a metaphor for racial/ethnic identity. There’s self-hating cavemen, Uncle Tom cavemen, ‘prehistoric’ fever, cavemen embarassed by other cavemen acting out stereotypes. OMFG, I’m peeing myself uncontrollably over here, and I’m not even watching the show. Needless to say, NSFWOAOATP - Not Safe for Work on Account of all the Peeing.

I get your point, but who wants it? It’s all so damned trite. Not you, Johnny Angel, — them.

I mostly watched the first episode and it just wasn’t funny. Even if they took out the caveman gimmick, it still wasn’t funny. Bad concept, bad writing, bad execution.

Did y’all notice the absence of a laugh track?

No, there was a laugh track - but they didn’t find any of the jokes funny enough to use it.

Other than that, though, it was pretty good.

I don’t think it’s horrible. I can see that the producers do try to not make it as shallow as its concept. Notice I said “try”. As Yoda said, “Do or do not.” I see the show going on “hiatus” by Christmas, with any unaired shows getting burned off in the spring. I thought Heather (the cavewoman) did come off as a stereotype. In fact, she reminded me more of a Klingon woman without all the leather.

I actually Tivo’d the show. Then promptly un-Tivo’d it. It was embarrassing to watch.

Yeah, like if they’d have said that they weren’t going to be using actors from the commercials it was based on, or something.

On the other hand, I heard that the food services catering on-set was excellent.

Moderator coughs: I have modified the thread title to be a trifle more descriptive…

And the episodes are too damn short!

Heh, I don’t think I’ve ever been quoted so many times in one thread.
