Months and months after its brief life as a network program, I came across some episodes of Cavemen, the sitcom on Youtube. Y’know what? I kind of like it. The characters have that same kind of impotent frustration that makes them so endearing in the Geico commercials. I might even buy the show if it ever becomes available on d.v.d. or Itunes.
I’m guessing that part of the appeal of the show is that its retread of all the old “how do we deal with race?” and fish-out-of-water situations somehow seems fresh when you dress it up in cavemen makeup.
It started kind of weak but was actually getting better. No one wanted to admit that they liked a show that was based on a commercial that was cool to hate, though. It seemed like it got cancelled right when it was finding its stride.
I thought it was great. The unemployed-eternal-grad-school caveman with a chip on his shoulder was great, the racist landlady was great. Very funny show.
I kinda liked it. It came out about the same time as The Big Bang Theory, and I’d say they were about equal in lameness yet having a few witty lines per ep. BBT made it, Cavemen didn’t. I guess it’s trendier to ID with the sciencey geek outcasts than the caveman outcasts.
