I have a CD and it looks perfect. I tried to rip it to mp3 (and also tried to rip to a .wav) and it rips fine all except for one track.
I ran the one track through a program called “exact audio copy” which uses only data to extract the information. It took about 5 hours to rip the track and it gave me a wave and an explinaton that 3 sectors couldn’t be read and gaps were filled with dead space.
Now when I look at the wav thru “Exact Audio Copy” I can see the gaps. And when I play the wav, I can clearly hear them.
The thing I don’t get is WHY can I not hear the distortion when I play the original record the CD player. I’ve tried quite a few CD players (and my computer) and can’t hear anything.
Obviously the CD players must have some kind of error control? Is this right? Fortunately the one track that won’t rip was one of the tracks I dislike so I don’t care if it rips or not. I was just curious.
Second question is now that I have the wav of the track (produced from “Exact Audio Copy”) is there anyway I could play with that and try to fix it. Any free audio manipulator programs? I found a few but they cost.
Frankly I’m just curious, since I don’t like the track I am not gonna spend money, but I thought it’d be fun to play with and see if I could get a result that sounded OK.
“Exact Audio Copy,” let’s me delete the “dead space” it put in the wav but then the music is distorted. It’s kind of odd 'cause the dead space it inserted in the part of the wav it couldn’t read, is less than 1/2 a second.
