Cecilvania: The Forbidden Thread

Don’t know how popular this thread will be, but here it is.

The game will be starting within the hour (we hope). We do have a super secret spoiler board (PM me for access).

I will be running my usual “write the color” contests on the SDMB though.

I am looking to get as much color pre-written as possible, so if anyone wants to try their hand at a Dawn or Dusk color post, put it up here and I will try to incorporate it.

If anyone wants to see something particular (in keeping with the transilvanian theme) post those suggestions!

We want you imput and promise to carry out whatever is suggested to the best of our abilities.
So what I am saying is, if you want someone in game slaped with a fish…I will do that for you.

So, a new game is starting.

I am excited. Is anyone else excited? I love the start of a new game, makes me feel all tingly.

I would like to give USCDiver all credit for this game upfront. I helped balance a little bit, but 99% of this game was in his head when he first PM’d me. (Dracula was mine, but that should be obvious as it is the only role to cause any controversy…so it goes with my creations). He had a fairly strong idea of what he wanted the game to be, and I think it was a good one.

So, if anyone is out there watching, are there any initial thoughts on what looks to be an all-star mafia game?

It’s good that people take the trouble to run Mafia games.

I am a little worried about both Dracula and the Werewolf Scout.

Dracula seems to have miserable prospects. As someone has said in the thread:

  • Dracula bites Werewolf and dies
  • Dracula bites townie and is betrayed (sooner or later)

I suppose if Dracula lasts until the endgame, he might win. But it seems a poor prospect.
Now of course if you had two Draculas, that would be fun!

The Werewolf Scout speeds up the bad guys finding the Constable and Physic roles. They know who all the other Werewolves are, whereas the Constable has to guess every time.
Once the Constable dies, I think the Town will soon follow.

I would have let Dracula keep his followers. (Alternatively when Dracula is killed, one of his followers becomes Dracula and the rest die.)

Or make Dracula like a Sith Lord! One follower at a time - who takes over if Dracual is killed…

Oh, I like that idea. I need to figure out how a win condition would work but…hmm.

I really like the basic premise of this game setup and want to keep playing with it for future use. I am not too happy with the Dracula role as it stands, but I am interested to see what happens and maybe in the future I can fix some of out mistakes.

The current discussion in the game thread is interesting. It was evolving into a consensus that being bitten may not be so bad after all.

[post=9809312]Storyteller’s post[/post] in reaction to the ruling might move it back though.

Some spaces to ensure a search for my posts don’t accidentally reveal these thoughts to players.

I was pondering what might happen if the lynchmob converged on a subordinate Vampire - they could claim Vampire and sell out Dracula at that point - but would the Town let them off?

My reaction would have to depend on the exact circumstances, but I suspect that unless it risked losing the game to the wolves I’d go for lynching Dracula to convert any possible Vampire converts back to Town. (Remember Dracula can’t convert Wolves…)

Whoever gives up Dracula then becomes **comfirmed ** Townie, which, really, can be the most important role in the game.

This game is gonna be freaking cool. I wanted to play, but I figured true vets should have first dibs. I volunteered to sub, but just like in the off-board site, I seem to have been overlooked. It’s cool. I’ll only cry a little bit. Seriously, I am excited about watching this game. I might even cage-dance a little at night with HNC and HM. I gotta have something to do during Night in Doperville. I’m scared to sleep there!

You should be, Doperville is a scary place. They killed me before I could even sub in. No good I tells ya, no good.

(didn’t mean to overlook you, I tend to miss a lot of that stuff. I will put you on the sub list now.)

Thanks, NAF. I have a habit of killing you, too! I’m not sure I’d be so nice to someone who likes to let me hang so much.

Hey, it’s nothing personal (I hope).

Just a reminder that if anyone wants access to the spoiler boards you should PM me and I will send you the link.

Or stick around here and watch unspoiled. Your call (no sub’s don’t get into the spoiler boards :stuck_out_tongue: )

Hey, I don’t dig the spoiler boards anyway. Buff likes to play along at home!

Posting to subscribe. I hope everyone enjoys this game, it will probably be the only one I’ll ever Mod, this is stressful. My stomach was in knots starting the game. For some reason I had this picture in my head of the thread just dying and falling off the front page like so many of my other threads!

One of the big problems I could see with the Dracula role written as it is is that fledgling Vampires have very little motivation to play nicely: it’s one thing if the players agree to always play for the benefit of their current team as a matter of ethics, but if they have no real reason to be loyal, I would predict most new vampires would quickly sell Dracula out for their own safety, since Town seems like it would have a much better chance of winning.

Oh. The plot thickens! I’m expecting a Chia Vampire Manager to pop out at any point. The mods won’t verify that ONLY the roles listed are present? Yes, yes, I like this very much. I’m thorougly enjoying the confusion the folks are going through right now.

Oh, and my thoughts on the vampire are like what somebody in the game thread put forth earlier: the key to dracula’s success is really going to be surviving until close to endgame. At that point, it seems like dracula would have better luck recruiting. Personally, I’d probably stay vamp for a bit if bit as a townie. I could always claim that it had just happened the previous night. Sure, they could go ahead and lynch me anyway, but that would lose a town that could be saved by lynching drac instead. I don’t think that role is as backed-into-a-corner as it first appears.

I don’t see ethics applying so much when your first loyalty is abruptly cancelled by another team, especially as your original loyalty could easily be restored later.

My current suspicions are on sachertorte and possibly one of the freudian slit/hockey monkey combo, based on their current interactions.
I wish this thread was a little more…vibrant. I guess not everybody finds a vicarious game of Mafia nearly as exciting as I do.

Do you think in a game with recruitment, it would be unsportsmanlike to immediately name all the other scum if you were the Townie who was recruited? Does the fact that Vampires can revert to their original team when Dracula dies make that big of a difference from a sportsmanship angle?

Firstly I think that it’s not relevant to talk about loyalty / ethics / sportsmanship when somebody effectively kidnaps you.

So let’s say it’s all about playing the game to win.

If I’m a Townie, I am content to be killed if it means (for example) that the Detective gets another day to investigate. I still win if the Town win.
If I’m recruited and will stay recruited, then I shrug my shoulders and try to win with the new guys.
But your ‘Dracula reversion clause’ dramatically changes my game strategy. Since Dracula has a hard time winning AND if he is killed, I revert to another group, then I’m thinking that I can do best by ‘betraying’ Dracula. Firslty it guarantees he will be killed, plus I establish my bona fides with my original group.

One way around this would be to say that any recruited Vampires don’t know who Dracula is.

I don’t care too much for watching a game without being spoiled. I think I learn better by having all the information in front of me and seeing how the various parties play what information they have. So there’s not a whole lot I can say in this thread since I know who’s who and what’s what. Any comment I make on the game is no doubt colored by my perfect knowledge. You saw something similar in Batman. The peanut gallery was less than 24 posts per day/night cycle, and it only began to increase significantly at the end when the talkative players were finally getting knocked out of the game.
