Celebrities who openly loathe each other

They hate each other so much in fact that Dunne doesn’t speak to his brother and sister-in-law (John Gregory Dunne/Joan Didion) because they’re still friends with her.

That was nothing compared to the screaming match when she told both Victor Hugo and Dan “Hoss Cartwright” Blocker that they were Maurice’s daddy, then the two both got invited to the Marquis de Sade’s birthday party for Renee Zellwegger.

John Lennon’s Playboy quotes on George:

LENNON: “Well, I was hurt by George’s book, ‘I, Me, Mine’ …so this message will go to him. He put a book out privately on his life that, by glaring omission, says that my influence on his life is absolutely zilch and nil…In his book, which is purportedly this clarity of vision of his influence on each song he wrote, he remembers every two-bit sax player or guitarist he met in subsequent years. I’m not in the book.”

PLAYBOY: “Why?”

LENNON: "Because George’s relationship with me was one of young follower and older guy. He’s three or four years younger than me. It’s a love/hate relationship and I think George still bears resentment toward me for being a daddy who left home. "

She’s been in loads of stuff.

I saw Mickey Rooney about 5 years ago at a 50s diner in Westlake. We chatted idly, and he went on…and on…like the stereotypical bitter old man. He all but said, “These kids today…”

Some quotes from that surreal conversation:

“Paramount Studios, you know I built them. They would be nothing without me, and the thanks I get…”

“There’s nothing but crap on TV today. That show…that doctor show, the medicine woman thing…” Friend: “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman?” “Yes, that. No one watches that shit. And you know what they say about Jane Seymour? She’s a bitch.”

Um…okay, Mr. Rooney. It went on from there, but those are the clearest quotes in my memory.

BTW, George was quite p.o.d by Lennon’s comments, but he was also the only Beatle to go to Yoko when John was killed. Paul was still, understandably, pretty fricking irritated by the song “How Do You Sleep?”.

Totally off the subject, but did anybody else know that Yoko Ono finally reconciled with her daughter? They recently met for the first time in 30 years and Yoko got to hold her grandchild. Kyoko claims that motherhood made her want to reconnect; she actually seems to have no interest in the Lennon billions.

Two other celebrities who can’t stand each other, though nobody cares: Lucie Arnaz and Patty Duke. It dates back to when Patty though Desi, Jr., was the father of her son Sean Astin (whose real father is an interesting but unrelated story).

Yes, but save for DALLAS and the hysterical ROSEANNE cameo none of it would appear on anybody’s short list. Most of her stuff was low budget indie junk.
Today she works as a teacher’s aide and is out of the biz altogether. (Good investments and a rich ex left her in decent financial shape.)

He’s a total crackpot. He also claims that Mickey Mouse was named for him (not so), that there were no homosexuals in Hollywood when he was a star (admittedly, that was 429 years ago), and is incredibly judgmental for somebody who’s been married 8 times, declared bankruptcy twice, and had substance abuse problems.

John Astin isn’t Sean’s father, then? I think he raised him, didn’t he? (I knew there was a question as to whether or not his father was Desi Jr…)

Guin, the last word on that is that Sean’s father is/was Michael Tell.

That’s a funny thing, though. Patty Duke was married to Tell for ten days, and she says in her autobiography that Tell made the offer to her after she’d wept on his shoulder about being pregnant, unmarried and not even sure who the father was. She also said that the marriage was never consummated. But all this took place during a manic period (she’s manic/depressive). It’s possible that she only thought she was pregnant when she told him this, had sex with him once, didn’t retain any memory of the act, and conceived Sean in that way. Manics do have a lot of gaps in their memory.

And, yes, John Astin did raise him. As far as he’s concerned, that’s his dad.

No, Paul was over it by the time John died. I mean, How do you Sleep was released in what? 72? 74? Somewhere around there. John later apologized and explained that the sarcasism and apparently hate was directed at himself, not at Paul. They reconciled before he died.
Paul didn’t go see Yoko after John died becaus Paul and Yoko hate each other. I mean, until Yoko came into his life, Paul was John’s best friend.

From what I gather also, John and Paul used to hang out together in the seventies. Occassionally.

When Lorne Michaels made the offer for 1,000 dollars for the Beatles to reunite, Paul and Linda were over at John’s and Yokos, and they were watching the show. John and Paul actually considered going down to the studio, but they were just too tired.

(According to the Playboy interviews)

Johnny Rotten and Glen Matlock - Johnny couldn’t stand how Glen always wanted to be “nice” and “tuneful”. I don’t think Steve Jones was too big a fan of Glen either… if the disgusting sandwich story from Johnny’s book is true.

Ty Cobb vs. the whole world

Disgusting sandwich? H’uh?

Slight hijack – as depicted in a made-for-TV (or cable?) movie, “Two of Us,” the SNL offer was $3000, to be divided up any way they saw fit (like, they wouldn’t have to give as much to Ringo if they didn’t want to).

You could just as easily say Johnny Rotten vs. the whole world.

Why? Do tell.

I don’t know about QE2 and Fergie’ relationshiop these days, but from what I’ve read in several places, Prince Phillip hates just about everyone and is an insufferable, insensitive, racist prick.

Ty Cobb never came to grips with the death of his father, from a questionable accidental shooting by Cobb’s mother. He was always intense and highstrung, and wanted to impress his father (whom he idolized) by being a success in baseball, which he never got the chance to do. In Al Stump’s biography of Cobb (the second “real” one) he speculates that Cobb was most likely mentally ill after the trauma of his father’s unexpected death, and his mental condition worsened over the course of his life. I’m not excusing the shitty way Cobb treated people, especially women and minorities, but the man was quite likely not in his right mind for most of his adult life.

According to Ray Davies in an interview I heard a few years back, Dave and Mick Avery can get along fine as long as they don’t have to perform or play together. He said Mick issues everyone their paychecks from Konk Studios, including Dave, and they are friendly as long as they never have to share a stage again.

How about Cheech and Chong? One of the last things I’ve seen Chong say was something to the effect of “You can never give a Mexican too much money”

At the same time, Chong was complaining because he thought they could go for one more Cheech and Chong movie and really cash in, enough to live on forever.

I know Chong was on that Don Johnson show but did he ever really patch it up with Cheech?

Actually, Cheech [Marin] was Johnson’s co-star. Chong was on THAT 70S SHOW for a couple of seasons.
