Celebrity American Idol

Thousands and thousands and thousands of wanna be’s have been sceened, auditioned, and now weeded down. Yet - depsite these huge incoming numbers, they have come up with only one and a half singers who can stay on pitch (Bo and Carrie) for more than half a song. Is vocal talent really that rare?

Meanwhile, celebrity singers that are widely believed to have no or little talent (Jessica Simpson, J-Lo) appear to be in key. Is this because they are so heavily produced, over-dubbed, etc. etc. that their true voice is (thankfully) not apparent?

My conclusion is that it must be extremely difficult to sound good using the American Idol format. Assuming that’s the case, which of the following “final ten” celbrities would achieve stardom if they were forced to be contestants on the show?

J-Lo, Madonna, Sheryl Crow, Janet Jackson, Melissa Etheridge, Barry Manilow, Babyface, Justin Timberlake, David Matthews, and Stevie Wonder

Who gets voted off first?
Who wins it all?

I would say David Mathews is first to go, Madonna wins it all.

I would say Justin Timberlake and Stevie Wonder would be the top 2 because Justin is a fairly good looking guy and he has a good voice and Stevie because his voice is really awesome and he has been singing a long time. I guess Madonna would be thrown off first.

Do they sing their own music, with their own band? I’d say Dave, Crow and Wonder would be the finalists with the former two getting much of the younger votes and Wonder getting the older votes.

I didn’t even see BabyFace at first…that could change things.

Exact same format as they use now. One week, all the celebs mentioned would be told to sing Celien Dion, hits from the seventies, etc etc.

I’ll second Stevie Wonder as going far, he’s got a truly amazing vocal talent. Barry Manilow might go far, but might not, depending on the audiences tendency to vote cute instead of talent.

Sheryl Crow seems like she’d be the girl to beat, good enough on the eye-candy scale and less over-produced than Madonna or J-Lo. I have no idea how Janet or Melissa would fare, though.

I’ll agree that Idol’s format makes it very difficult to sound good consistently, the audio quality is all over the place.
