Celebrity Apprentice (spring 2012) [edited title]

Exactly, they are to edit the whole thing together. Either that, or Magic’s director expected that he would be “conversing” with Arsenio and Arsenio will simply look up at him like Magic is talking to him, while sometimes Magic turns to talk to the crowd.

It’s not a big deal, and isn’t even a small deal if they have another camera shot to edit the thing together with.

I think that one of three things will happen:

 1. We see that he is talking to another camera
 2. Corrola’s staff wins “Idiots of the Year” and we start a pool on SD wondering how long before one of them wins a Darwin Award
 3. Ervin “saves the day” by coming in person

I think the easiest solution would be to use the first part of the video with Irving and then before he turns to his right, have it fade into a montage of pictures of the charity’s successes with just a voiceover.

That’s what I was thinking!

I just wish Aubrey would have a little more self-confidence and not be so much in her shell.

Spoiler from Adam Corolla’s podcastrelated to the above:
As I suspected, the show is playing fast and loose with the footage. There indeed is a second clip from the second camera that Magic Johnson is looking into. As the “podcast guys” said themselves on the podcast, they’d have to be retarded to just film his ear. Now Adam admitted it didn’t turn out exactly as he had planned, but that it ended up working out anyway.

And on another, but semi-related note…
Lisa Lampanelli emailed Adam after the show aired to make it clear that the clip where she said she “wasn’t sure about Adam…” was actually taken from several episodes previous, where she was referencing his car presentation. She said you can tell because she’s wearing the same outfit in the clip as in that episode and she never wore the same thing twice.

So yeeeah, it’s pretty clear the show plays fast and loose with the edits, constructing stories that don’t really exist. Adam even mentioned the reaction shots, such as during their brainstorming meeting, are not at all related to what was being said.

Me, too!

This. They nebulously said “transparent”, without actually stating what she was transparent about. I suppose, though, that she’s transparent enough that we all understand.

I did agree with one point, his micromanaging of her phone call with her cousin, but otherwise, he’s spot on. It’s his call, and he wants prior approval, he said that up front. Either say “Okay, I’ll get you a sketch”, or say, “that’s probably too much hastle”, and then skip the painting, which Clay didn’t want in the first place. Starting a pissing contest to just give Clay more stress is not being a team player.

Now, Clay could have taken the approach to trust his teammate, let Debbie and Aubrey manage the painting/mural, and gone with it. That is the approach that Arsenio probably would have taken. But Clay seems intent to oversee the choice, so if that’s his position, then by all means don’t fight him.

Reality check, the only thing that really matters is the fundraising. Trump rates these things on dollars brought in. Clay could stand there on a bare stage and wing a description of his charity, run the PSA that is Clay talking about the charity, and as long as he raises the most money, he’ll win the task.

Not that I want to see that. But yeah, the mural is such a side thing, he is right on his first call, don’t bother painting the walls, just put up some decorations of the tables and wall space at eye level and move on. A mural would be a nice accent, and show’s flair, but won’t win or lose the event.

Ya, seriously. Doesn’t it make sense, period, to want to see a draft of something before committing to it? I’m not sure if Debbie is butthurt because Clay didn’t clamor over her and Aubrey’s idea, or if she feels an opportunity to big up her cousin has been shot down or what, but her response to this is deeply irrational to the point I must conclude it’s personal. You just don’t start painting walls without having any idea what it’s going to look like first. Pretty simple stuff.

This is why I love you people. While I’m sure most of the audience was rolling their eyes at yet another example of Aubrey’s up-to-eleven arrogance, I was also grimacing to myself, “Somebody doesn’t know what ‘transparent’ means.”

Oh, for fuck’s sake. Everybody knows these reality shows aren’t exactly documentaries, and are edited in a way to create a compelling narrative, but Jesus Harold Christ, that bugs me as it wasn’t even necessary. Had they left out that snippet from 8 weeks back, would the narrative had been disrupted or diminished at all? It would have been the same, exact episode without pulling in completely unrelated soundbites from times of yore. That just seems egregious. Then I wonder just how much of what I’m seeing is misappropriated splicing, and if the producers and editors stuck with chronology, perhaps we’d have no watchable episodes at all? And then I stop thinking that because it takes the fun out of everything.

Whoa, easy there MeanOldLady. I thought it was an interesting insight (particularly when combined with my spoiler box); not an attack on your life style.

Whoops, it seems I misread/interpreted your post and it’s too late to edit. Sorry about that!

In light of this, I agree with your assessment (assuming I read it correctly this time =P I wish they just kept it more true to what happened, which seems to already have plenty of drama, so at so not cast doubt on the rest of the production.

Heh, right, I wasn’t attacking you. I was just expressing my irritation with what seems like gratuitously misleading editing.

Yup, totally agreed. I recall similar complaints for Survivor when it was revealed they refilmed scenes using stand-ins…which I think they’ve since returned to.

And the winner is

ARSENIO

I thought both shows and PSA’s were very well done.

I can’t ever recall such a drama free final. Arsenio and Clay were both my favorites all season. I really didn’t have a preference between the two.

I can’t imagine how Trump choose. There was nothing he could fault between the two. I didn’t hear how much each charity took in. Did Trump just give the win to whoever raised the most cash? Flip a coin? This must of been a tough decision.
Congrats to Arsenio.

Poor Clay gets second place again.
Wow. Trump didn’t even bother to offer a reason for him picking Arsenio even though both did good shows, both did good ads, and Clay outraised money by about 2 to 1.

I can’t help but wonder if two factors were 1) Clay is gay and 2) Arsenio is black.

Assuming they were neck and neck going into the final boardroom (and I would say they were) Arsenio was much more impressive at the end. Clay’s reason for wanting to win boiled down to “I already finished second once.”

I was a big fan of Arsenio’s talk show. I can’t recall him ever singing.

Was amazed when he sang with Clay and sounded really good.

YES! I’m thrilled that Arsenio won. I only saw the last handful of shows, and caught up some on Hulu, but of the shows that I watched, I thought he was the better leader because he made it look effortless.

Was I the only one bothered by Lisa Lampanelli’s response to her own inconsistency when she was shown a tape of her incredibly poor behavior? She handwaved it away by saying something like she was a mental case or something like that. If it’s true, that wasn’t funny. If it wasn’t true, it’s a really poor excuse for nastiness.

I agree with you aceplace57, I was pleasantly surprised at how good Arsenio sounded.

Absolutely this.

I would have been just as happy if Clay had won, but secretly I was rooting for Arsenio all along.

No, Clay pulled in much more in donations than Arsenio, but they did make the point that fundraising was only part of the criteria for the final. If it had an impact at all, I think it was in Arsenio’s favor, as Clay had already raised more money than Trump’s prize. Perhaps that’s why Trump awarded the final to Arsenio after all, to equalize the charity donations.

Yeah, if there’s anything that disappointed me about the final reunion, it was that more of them didn’t openly confront Lisa about how much of a toxic bitch she’d been. Editing being what it is, we’ll never know exactly how she interacted, but even if the bits they showed were only a selection of her worst, that’s a lot to answer for. Someone should have roundly criticized her for her excesses, and not allowed her to play it off as part of her “comic persona.” When Trump was asking them what they thought of Lisa, I really wanted someone to step up and say, “Well, Mr. Trump, I found her to be a truly ugly person, inside and out, and I hope to never work with her again.”
