Hall of Fame broadcaster Jerry Coleman, a former second baseman for the New York Yankees who interrupted his pro career to fly as a Marine Corps pilot in World War II and Korea, died Sunday, the San Diego Padres said. He was 89.

I just noticed that Michael Schumacher had a birthday on January 3. He turned 45 and took a potential point off the scores of everyone who picked him.

Yeah, and if he lives, he’ll take another 55 points from those of us who jumped on that bandwagon.

News story on Robert Mugabe.

That block at the end of the game that flying leap, by Kyler Ellsworth, he is a local boy.

Actor Larry Mann has passed away at the age of 91.

He was a “that guy!” character actor, and it seems like he was in everything.

But he’ll always be remembered as the voice of Yukon Cornelius, from 1964’s Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reinder.

Hey, we’re a week into the New Year, and I’m still tied for the lead!

Of course, so is everybody else.

Woo-hoo! It wouldn’t be many points, but it would pop my Death Pool cherry. And possibly also get me a share of the Opening Kickoff award. Although this could be a problem… (from the linked article)

I think it would be when the “security chiefs” thrash out who’s going to take Mugabe’s place.

An execution or two, a convenient heart attack or car accident, and they’ll be ready.

BAd - Murder!

Venezuelan ex-beauty queen Monica Spear murdered
“Former Venezuelan beauty queen Monica Spear, 29, and her British husband Thomas Berry, 39, have been shot dead in their car in Venezuela…”

Run Run Shaw, credited with creating the kung fu genre in movies, has died at 106.

For a minute I got excited because I know in the last year or two he’s been on a couple of lists.

But not this year. Over on the other board where I play a different list one person had him as an alternate.

Actress Carmen Zapata has died. And no, nobody had her.

And they asked Her, “Speak to us of the Other Death Pool, oh Most Illustrious Death Mistress.”

It’s a smaller board, and thirty people are playing Death Pool. Not as much chatter as over here, the whole thread was six pages for 2013. I am not the only person from here playing there though!

I play a different list over there than here. I had one death for 2013, Eleanor Parker, so I got nine points and ended up 20th out of thirty players.

I’m on the scoreboard with 40 points! Paul Goggins has died aged 60.

Congratulations!

I think he was my one unique pick too - someone else followed me with Mario Oriani-Ambrosini.

Not much point, what with him giving you -6 points.
