People talk about icons of the Death Pool. This being my first time playing, I took a quick stab at a list. Clearly my research and approach to this needs to improve. I have much to learn from the senior players here. I said senior, not older!

Does anyone remember what this game was called in the 1990s here on The Dope? I can’t find the old threads from back then. I’m new to The Dope and was able to find them going back to 2000, but not before. I’m guessing it might’ve gone by another thread name and I’m searching on the wrong string. Here’s what I could find, trivially including this current one simply for completeness.

For the 2000 pool, Little Nemo opens with (italics mine), “Yes, once again it’s that time of year. Time to guess which celebrities will die in the year 2000.” So we know there was one in 1999, right?

The SDMB as it is now came to be in 1999. Anything before that would’ve been on the AOL board, which I believe is lost in the ether. I imagine the 1999 Death Pool would’ve been set up in late 1998, so you’re not going to find it (or any earlier versions).
Yeah, but she’s been in so many Death Pools that she doesn’t remember the first! :eek:
echo7tango, thank you so much for that post with links to all the Death Pools. I’ve been working on finding them, but for some reason, when I’d enter a search term, (for title words), it wouldn’t show them all. Like, I’d enter Death, or Celebrity, and two or three would show, but no more.
I’m going to bookmark that post of yours.
It’s fun to see how the threads have grown. More chatter now, more players.
But Ariel Sharon is gone. Things just won’t be the same.
I need to be the DeathMistress for another couple of years, to equal amarone and a35362. And until an earlier post of Little Nemo’s, I hadn’t realized they had run the game.
