Celebrity Death Pool 2014

Zoinks!

It’s another Straight Dope miracle!

Michael Schumacher out of coma and hospital

Celebrities need to start paying us to put them on our lists if they get hurt. It’s the kiss of life!

Tony Gwynn, legendary San Diego Padre baseball player*, was thrown out at home at the age of 56.

*I think he’s the only human being who can fit this description.

Well, I’ve enjoyed y’all’s company on this lovely bandwagon. See ya next time!

Well, cool!

We have to swear to use our superpowers only for good.

Too late. I’ve sworn to use mine only to annoy.

New Yorker cartoonist Charles Barsotti has drawn his last squiggle.

Author Daniel Keyes, whose 1966 novel “Flowers for Algernon” sold more than five million copies and was made into the Oscar-winning film “Charly,” June 15 at age 86.

My husband and I were visiting our daughter and son-in-law for Father’s Day weekend. When it was announced that Casey had died, I raised my arms like a ref signaling touchdown. They gave me crap for participating in such a horrendous activity. :smack:

I just thought to myself: “another 18 pts added to 61 for Katherine Crowe = 79; yay!”

That’s within acceptable limits.

However performing a touchdown dance would be going too far.

I have not had a score in almost two years. A touchdown dance will be positively mild compared to what I might do when/if any of my picks decides to shuffle off this mortal coil.

That’s okay. It put you in the top five, and that deserves a happy dance too.

When folks think I’m morbid or macabre for participating in this game I tell them I wouldn’t mind if someone was going “Woo-hoo!!!” because I kicked off. I know where I’m going when I die and it’s going to be great, so why not make somebody happy? As it is, as a member I’m not eligible, but if I was an eligible celebrity I’d be flattered that people remembered me well enough to choose me!

Gerry Goffin, Carole King’s songwriting partner and ex-husband, at 75.

Stephanie Kwolek, inventor of Kevlar, has died at age 90.

Nursie, too. Blackadder loses another cast member.

Presumably, not shot to death.

I guess we can thank her for making this game harder for everyone to score.

Jimmy C. Newman, dead from cancer at 14 points.

Steve Rossi, one half of the prolific comedy duo Allen & Rossi, which became a favorite of “The Ed Sullivan Show” and other TV variety shows, died Sunday at age 82.

Richard Matheson died today. I found myself saying, “who?” Then I read the article and realized I knew a LOT of the stories he’d written, I’d just never known they were him.

I hope his wings are gremlin-free.
