Celebs Tweet their grief about Donna Summer!

Because the actual obituary writers all went out on a coffee break.

Gloria Estefan: Peace & prayers 2 all who loved her. I will miss her!

Ryan Seacrest: I remember sitting in the front seat of my mom’s toyota while she sang Donna Summer’s “she works hard for the money” songs were just classic

Melody Thornton: Whoa! My heart just stopped! We love you Donna RIP Donna Summer :frowning:

Amber Riley: Omg :frowning:

Like Timbaland, I too am at a lost 4words. It’s just like reading Shelley’s Ode to a Skylark! “Hail 2thee, blithe spirit: :(”

Omg! Wtf! Rip!

Or, as Churchill memorably Tweeted upon the death of Roosevelt, :(.

Eve - Can I just say again how glad I am that you’re back. You make this board so much more fun.

StG

I can hardly wait to read the tweet from the survivor of the Joan Fontaine/Olivia de Havilland sibling rivalry feud!

But his tweet of May 1, 1945 was a classic:

1st mussolini, now hitler! roflmao!!! maybe tojo next week! lol!!!

David Boreanaz: R.I.P. Donna Summer. A mezzo-soprano range of a soul and artist.

I think it would just read “I win!”

I just heard that [NAME] died yesterday.

I’m 1) INCONSOLABLE WITH GRIEF 2) THE first/second/third/fourth/fifth TO POST THE SAD NEWS HERE 3) STRANGELY UNMOVED.

[NAME] died 1) QUIETLY IN HIS BED 2) AFTER A LONG STRUGGLE WITH substance abuse/his ex-wife/the Times crossword 3) IN A HAIL OF gunfire/adverse criticism of his second album.

Although I 1) NEVER MET HIM PERSONALLY 2) NEVER HEARD OF HIM BEFORE READING THE OBIT, I am 1) TYPING THROUGH MY TEARS 2) PLAYING HIS MUSIC IN A CANDLE-LIT VIGIL 3) WONDERING IF THIS TIE GOES WITH THIS SHIRT OR NOT.

[NAME] will be much-missed by 1) GRIEVING BLOG COMMENTERS 2) THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE 3) CHI-CHI at NED’S ALL-NUDE REVUE 4) HIS CREDITORS 5) ME, HIS NUMBER ONE FAN.

My thoughts are with 1) HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS 2) THE GIRL IN ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE WITH THE COLORED TIGHTS 3) CHICAGO CUBS RELIEF PITCHING STAFF at this time.

His life was 1) TOO SHORT 2) WASTED IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS 3) A BURNING COMET IN THE DARK OF POST-MATH-ROCK BLACK-METAL, and he will be remembered until 1) THE NEXT TRAGIC ROCK DEATH 2) THIS COMMENT FALLS OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE BLOG.

I suggest we all show our respects by 1) POSTING SOME OLD YOUTUBE CLIP 2) PLAYING HIS MUSIC AT THE DINNER PARTY TONIGHT UNTIL SOMEBODY PUTS SOMETHING BETTER ON 3) GOING ALL MOIST-EYED AS WE FILL OUR AMAZON CART WITH HIS PRODUCT A BIT LATE IN THE DAY EH BUT IT’S THE LEAST WE CAN DO.

Too soon, man. Too soon. :frowning:

Because a tweet is on exactly the same literary level as a poem. They felt it was important to say something when they heard of her death. I think it’s a little tacky to belittle that just because it’s conveyed in a medium and register that you don’t care for.

I only know who three of those celebrities are.

The needle has lifted on Donna Summer’s Last Dance.

I will say that Barbra Streisand’s two tweets were actually educational. First, she said she was shocked because Donna looked well when last they met, which suggests that Donna’s illness was (hopefully) not a protracted and lengthy horror. Second, she said that she loved recording a duet with Donna. What? Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer? To the internets. I never knew, but now I do.

So I can’t get too mad about celebs being just like everyone else on Twitter, really. I actually enjoy it, and sometimes it’s rather useful.

**Gilbert Gottfried: ** True Story… Donna Summer once walked out on my act because I was making jokes about Jesus. RIP Donna Summer

I remember this song–Enough is Enough

ETA: So long, Donna–you really were Hot Stuff.

Are you actually mocking someone who’s sad that someone else died?

Nine-year-old girls doodle on their notebooks, too, but it doesn’t wind up as an AP news release.

Speaking of celebrity tweets about famous singers dying, check out this article describing the outrage that happened after Whitney Houston died. Kesha didn’t make any mention of it until nearly 24 HOURS AFTER the news was announced. How disrespectful! Why didn’t she drop everything and send out a tweet immediately?!

I imagine Willow Smith’s doodles get far more notice than yours or mine ever did when we were 9.
