First, an admission: I HATE Celine Dion.
But I taped the CBS special last night because I wanted to see what Dragone had done with her multi-million dollar show.
First: He practically shaved her head. Makes her nose much more prominent, if that’s possible.
Next: He surrounded her with about a million dancers.
Then: He slapped on a huge television screen that distracts you from all the other mish-mash that’s going on on the stage.
And then: He hired a choreographer who makes the diva squat like a sumo wrestler while singing love songs.
Too much going on. Not much of it’s interesting. But people will go and plunk down money. Ah, Vegas!
I was flipping channels and saw her performance of “I Drove All Night”. I’m not sure what the song had to do with the dancers. They were just bouncing around and it was kinda scary.
To start, I’m a fan of her music. I was interested in seeing her show in Vegas, but after last night I’ve changed my mind. I agree that her hair made her look horrible. Plus, there wasn’t anything special about the show. It seemed like a normal concert that you might catch anywhere. I guess I was expecting some more glitz and glamour normally associated with a big Vegas production. I don’t see this one doing too well financially over a 3 year period.
I hate to say this, but doesn’t her doing a series of Vegas Shows, kind of cheapens her as an artist? I only thought entertainers who do a long run in Vegas, kind of shows that your career is on a downward spiral. I mean, I know there are acts in Vegas - like Wayne Newton - who are an institution.
But, what’s next, is Shania going to be doing a series of shows in Branson Mo., or maybe Cher in Atlantic City, NJ?
I can’t stand Celine. I still haven’t recovered from a near fatal overdose of the Titanic theme. But, I’m surprised Dragone missed the ball on this one. I saw his other show, O, at the Bellagio two weeks ago and it was spectacular. I hate clowns and circuses in general, but this just blew me away. It’s the closest thing to acid without actually doing it.
Even if the show stinks, Celine’s fans can be so rabid they would probally pay to see her covering Air Supply.
