Central PA Post-Fest Wrap-up

I am so glad you made it home. I felt horribly guilty :X

Antares, OpalCat

There’s no need to feel guilty. I spent most of the wait shopping in the antique store. The first leg of the trip, there were only three other people on the bus- including the driver. The second leg, there were around twelve. Then, I was back in Philly at a subway station I’m very familiar with. I got home in time to call my Dad while my family was at a restaurant for Fathers’ Day. We sang Oh My Papa and I chatted with my niece. Missing my ride back home really worked out well for me.

My pictures are at http://darkon.net/padope.html. A page with the movies is at http://darkon.net/movies.html.

Zip files with all of the pictures and movies are available at http://darkon.net/resources/padope/padope.zip and http://darkon.net/padope/resources/movies/moviepack.zip. The pictures in the zip file are the full resolution files.

I’m looking forward to the next one.

Cleophus: may I repost your photos in the gallery?

I’m getting a 404 for the movie zip file…

engineer_comp_geek, the fourth guy in your photo is HJay, an occaisional lurker, an old friend of mine, and Polycarp’s brother in spirit. He writes military fiction under the name H. Jay Ryker, and science fiction under his own name.

I had to leave early since the other gentleman I was with, G, wanted to get back to Pittsburgh for a Games Night Saturday evening, but we didn’t want to leave. The company and conversation was, as expected, wonderful, as was the game playing. In his first game of Fluxx, Polycarp proved what the Fundamentalists have long suspected – he’s evil! Of course, what he did also wound up forcing Iampunha to give me the win. Maybe there is something to this “clique” business after all.

I’m tired and I’ve got to get off to work, but I wanted to thank Ms. Robyn and DancesWithCats for organizing this. I’d certainly be willing to make another Central PA Dopefest, and hopefully next time I won’t have to juggle other plans.

Fellow Dopers, it really was a pleasure meeting you all!
CJ

Great pix, Cleophus! (For members of my fan club wondering what I look like – the pix of “Judy” on page 2 are actually of me. )

cleophus, great pix! A teeny nitpick, if I might be allowed: the child labeled as “madison” is actually Mariah (I like the name Madison, but Mariah is an old family name on hubby’s side).

You’re welcome.

I got the babka at the local grocery store, which has a small section for kosher baked goods.

My thanks to all the chili makers, Weirddave for the grilled chicken, and Ginger for the apple cake and the PIE!

I took only two photos, of the juggling. I’ll send them on to Opal in a day or two.

As with everyone else, I thank MsRobyn and danceswithcats for putting this picnic together.

You’re very welcome, even though I’m sure it was sort of ass pie from the frozen crusts. And, we didn’t bring the chicken, Mr & Mrs. Steelerphan did - Dave just ended up grilling it.

Point the first: That sounds vaguely dirty.
Point the second: Miss Eve has informed me that the proper term is goyishe, and that shikseh (shiksa?) is not so nice. ;j

[ul][li]restuarant fiasco: Cleophus & I arrived slightly before 9pm and finding it closed, tried to hightail it back to the picnic grounds to inform everybody. On the way back we passed danceswithcats and then pulled a 180° to catch up with him. Upon arriving back at the restuarant and not finding him in the parking lot, we waited. And waited. Airman Doors did eventually show up and not having anyone’s cell number, we waited in the parking lot as that was the original plan. At 10:30pm we had to give up and start our trip back home.[/li][li]mud: It has some kind of mystical powers over children that compels them to play in it. This phenomen could be a Nobel-winning study.[/li][li]juggling: I need more practice or Opal will never want to juggle knives. How are your shoulders, sweetie? :)[/li][li]chili: danceswithcats’ jalepeno chili was the best IMO.[/li][li]other food: A big round of applause to all the cooks. Wonderful stuff.[/li][li]live music: Yay AntaresJB![/li][li]Fluxx: Confusing, but fun. I still don’t understand the “I’ll play this card so [other person’s name] wins” strategy. Were there sexual favors being given out afterwards for most Fluxx assists? And if there was why wasn’t I informed?[/li][li]Gettysburg: Didn’t see anything. Maybe next year it could be a 2-day event with a picnic one day and a battlefield tour the next.[/li][li]impunha: I averted my eyes and didn’t see a thing. Honest.[/li][/ul]
I think next time I’ll get a room. The drive home was a little too long after a full day of Dopers. It was great meeting everyone (again in some cases) and I look forward to the next DopeFest.

Fluxx is designed to be somewhat confusing, for the rules are constantly in flux. (Hence the name.) And as I am fond of warning people, sometimes you’re forced to play a goal card that gives someone else the win.

Next time we’ll play some games that are a little more sane. Anybody got Cranium Command?

Aside: I got home at midnight, with no trouble on the road.

SO SORRY about the brewpub! Damn I was pissed! What I should have done was 1) call the brewpub in advance to make sure they were open and 2) given everyone my cell phone number so we could meet up elsewhere. DUH! :smack:

I felt so bad about it! :frowning: Well, we just ended up finding a litte bar in Gettysburg, The Flying Bull Salloon, and staying there the rest of the evening. Once again, so sorry we didn’t get the chance to meet up with everyone.

What an awesome DopeFest! Highlights: AnitaVacation’s surprise appearance. Little Mariah playing in her “pond.” The food was great and the weather was beautiful! It was so nice meeting everyone.

Of course, the great day ended badly when we learned Gettysbrew was CLOSED! You see, we had to drive over to Hanover to check into our hotel (me, Huggybear, TeleTronOne, OpalCat, Fizzy, iampunha, DocCathode and Antares.) On the drive from the hotel to Gettysbrew, we got a call from Opal who had gotten a call from danceswithcats saying that the restaurant was closed. We went by there anyway, and it was all dark and almost impossible to find, but by this time it was after 10 and we just left, not knowing that anyone else might be there. So we went and found another bar and was hoping that the rest of the gang (everyone mentioned above) would make it out, but alas, no…it wasn’t meant to be. :frowning: So it was just me, TTO and Huggybear for the rest of the evening, both of whom are great company, but I missed everyone else. We finally made it back to the hotel after 2 am, and proceeded to pass out.

So what did the Hanover Holiday Inn group end up doing for the rest of the evening?

p.s. Did iampunha really run around naked? I totally missed that if it really did happen!

p.s.s. Even if I did miss that, I did get to see a bit more of DocCathode than I expected! hehehe

Oh, honey, next time you really do want to get a room.
I kid! I kid! Mostly!

My thought process: "Drive up? who the heck’s that? I don’t know any PaulNew Oxford? The hell… oh, wait a minute…

Are you saying that everyone who uses frozen crusts makes shitty pie?
I’m not much of a pie person but I did try a little and I didn’t see anything wrong with it. I know a lot of people who use store-bought crusts and I don’t think they consider their pies to be ass pies.

We would have gotten there around the time that you left, but we had to turn around to go back to the hotel because Paul had gone there to find us… and he had my child with him. By that time it was just too damned late to drive all the way back to Gettysburg. Too bad Nyctea & co didn’t stop at Gettysbrew. I tried to get them to go back to see if anyone was waiting and/or had left a note, but they were at another bar partying by then and we were twenty minutes away and heading in the wrong direction.
Danceswithcats: Have you seen Claude*? How is he doing?
*my cat, now his cat

OpalCat, you can post them in your gallery.
