This will probably apply to many college football fans that act like this but the ones I know of were cheering for LSU.
When people are fans of another team, it doesn’t make them idiots and they don’t suck, at least because of their team choice. This weekend, certain LSU fans took it on themselves to harass people who had come to New Orleans to cheer on Oklahoma. From what one person told me, while there were people who thanked them for coming in and wished them good luck, others felt the need to scream at them.
What really bothers me the most about this is my belief that most of the people who act like total assholes when supporting their favorite college team didn’t go to the goddamn college to begin with. I can’t keep track of the number of people who said they did not attend the college that is emblazoned on every square inch of their body. When you have a hat, shirt and probably underwear with the name of the college on it, shouldn’t you have gone to said school?
So you didn’t cut it to go to the school or you had other things going on or your parents died at a young age and you had to support your brothers and sisters instead of going to college. That’s all fine and dandy, just don’t act like an asshole while cheering for the team. All you are doing is making LSU fans, people from Louisiana and yourself look bad.
National Champions, go home and shut up now. It’s like figure skating, or being homecoming queen: the powers-that-be vote on a winner. Who wins in a playoff? Sure would be nice to know.
As for their fans, who can remember when they won one last? They can’t. Tonight they’re gonna party like it’s 1999.
On a positive note, I didn’t see any ugly Trojan fans at the Rose Bowl!
As a buddy and I sat on the golf course after the game, a Michigan fan walked past us and offered a congratulation on our victory, so we gave him a beer and thanked him for coming out west.
No riots and none were expected. The police here are experts at crowd control due to Mardi Gras, Essense Festival, Jazz Fest, often held Superbowl, yearly Sugar Bowl, and many other large scale events. Also of note is that if you get out of hand here, the police will probably beat the shit out of you until you stop giving them problems.
LSU fans can definitely be crazy. I’ve seen worse fans, but none as loud and obnoxious as the Bayou Bengals. The trick is to just beat them every year like my Gators do. I’ve never had any problems in Baton Rouge.
I had shit thrown at my car by obnoxious LSU fans this year (I go to the University of Alabama). I also was set upon and harassed by a group of drunk LSU guys.
I hate LSU with all that is in me, and I don’t give a rats’ ass about football.
But…but…LSU beat Georgia, and I have deep personal reasons for hating Georgia. So I can’t hate them even if I wanted to.
A coworker of my mom’s reported that the noise from the Quarter was so loud that she could hear it from her home in Algiers Point, which is across the damn river.
