Changing the world...one MMP at a time!

#@$% rain… We better have some kickass May flowers coming our way’s all I’m sayin’…

I’ll be travelling for work tomorrow. Watseka, Illinois!!
Waits for cheering and applause to die down.
I have to stop at a dairy in Momence for a quick calib on my way, moo. Er, too.

My roommate’s gf is throwing a cheerleading themed party at her place in Lincoln Park on Saturday and I’ve declared participation positive. It’s to be a Bring It On Movie Marathon kind of night. There’s supposedly 4 films in the series. I only know this because it was detailed in the invitation. I’ll there for the food & drinks. She’s a great hostess and really throws down at parties. My prediction: Her more square friends will show up at 6, have a drink or not and leave by 8. Meanwhile, me and roommie’s friends trickle in, gradually raise the party volume level, simultaneously swing the drink sampling both up in population & down in refinement, and infiltrate the ipod playlist. Come 11pm, there’ll be no sign of cheerleading and we can get on wit da tru poirty.

Off to bed with me.

I hate this weather. Hate.

I just accepted a last minute translation job - the person wants it within four hours. :dubious: Right now sleep seems more desirable than an extra $20-40, but she seems so desperate (it’s for grad school applications) that I caved. Grumble.

Shrug, I always consider loans to my mother as “a fondo perdido,” literally “lost funds.” But since it makes her happy to say she’ll return it, hey, who am I to say no. Now I’ve managed to get her to accept a monthly amount from me as “payment for when I’m ‘home’” on the grounds that I’d rather pay for the whole month even if I’m here two days only than pay for two days and then “loan” her several K in one shot; “easier to budget,” I said. I’ve made sure The Bros know I’m her second income source, just so if anything happens to me they won’t be caught by surprise - she’s always been a penny pincher for other people’s money, yet perfectly able to spend €300 on the new curtains for the living room without blinking (you can get similar models for 1/6 the price, but not in the kind of stores she patronizes).

Dotty, congratulations!

snowbunny, I love your place.
Some of those recipes are giving me a bad case of the yummies just from reading them. Guess I’ll see about trying a few when I’m at my place…

whiterabbit, what a cute cabin. Hope you enjoy living there with those fantastic views!

In other news…

I made that Garlic Cheddar Chicken, and OMG it was fabulous.

Also…

I was formally offered the new job today. Looks like I will be starting on the 21st! I have spent the better part of today running around doing a bunch of errands that needed to be done.

Yay! New job!!

Now, I have to try and catch up reading on this darn thread :stuck_out_tongue:

Cool, lots of people who wanted new jobs are getting them!

Gratz, LVGeoGeek!

HAPPY FIRDAY!!!

Up and caffeinating … trying to get there a bit early even.

SDMB remains blocked at work - I think they must have fixed the blocking permanently, unfortunately. So nothing more from me until this evening.

Happy Firday all!

Not very awake. Recipes yum. Yay job! Search for caffeine. Pronouns lost.

GT

Up and off to work again. Is Firday over yet?

Neat cabin, snowbunny!

::drive-by::

Wheeeee!

I’d put the pickled sausage under snacks, because that’s what i use them for. Shrimp dip is an appetizer.

Shut up, already! Someone might find out!

Too late!

Okay, really. Let’s hold mornings less early.

I went thru all that trouble to scan in and edit those two photos and after all your hollaring at me, not one comment? Hmmmph. Just for that, I am going to work and I’m not speaking to you until tonight. Maybe not until tomorrow. pout

I woke up at 0500. I ask you, was that fair or nice or even right? Sun is peeking out. It’s supposed to be 60 today (and snow flurries tomorrow for the wedding I have to go to ).
Off to work with the Friday crew. Yesterday was so nice with the other crew. Lisa the Bitch left early yesterday, and the rest of us had fun. Today it’s either put up with LtheB or listen to Other Only Slightly Annoying Coworker complain about how she can’t lose weight–yet she refuses to exercise at all. Guess what? When you are approaching 40, you can no longer rely on salads for lunch to keep you thin. Back when I thought she was genuinely asking for help, I suggested exercise to which she said, “that’s never going to happen.” I was so tempted to shoot back, “well, then I guess your ass will always look like a billboard like you said.”

Somehow I don’t think I’m headed heavenward.

Last night at roughly 2300, I had what was hands-down the oddest in the ironic sense fire page of my short 2nd career: the call was for a smell of smoke at the county 911 office.

The box that records the voice traffic on the 2 emergency channels let the smoke out and quit working. Pretty much a nothing call, but good for a half hour of bullshitting.

I went down there yesterday evening after it got dark to see how finding the place in the dark would go.

Thank Og I already knew where it was, because it’s really freakin’ DARK out there! MamaTigs, do not try to find my place in the dark without having done it in daylight a couple of times! That goes for any other Mumpers as well but I don’t know if any of you are heading this way anytime soon.

The stars, though, were glorious. A nice side effect of so little ambient light.

Cripes, it’s a miserable, cold, wet, rainy day.

I refuse to go outside. It’s a good thing Driving Husband is scheduled to come over and play with Nat later while I cook. It’s a perfect cooking/hanging out/eating things day.

Morning, everybody. After night before last, where I got next to no sleep, I was in bed and fast asleep by 10:00 last night and slept till 9:00 this morning! So now I’m tired from too much sleep. Honestly, I can’t win. :smack:

I keep trying to think of some of Papa Tigs’ delicious cooking that I could post – but he doesn’t use recipes. He makes heavenly marinades, delicious stir-fries, and the best gumbo ever, but it’s all done by feel. I wish he would write down some of his marinades; I keep asking him to, but by the time he thinks of it, he can’t remember everything he put in or how much of what. :smack: It’s very frustrating.

But I guess I should dig out Grandmother’s pumpkin bread recipe. Best pumpkin bread EVER.

Yes, I can see that snowbunny would love gentlemen, scarlet or otherwise, outside her door. I’m even more glad we’ve planned to get her furniture & stuff from storage out to her next month; she really needs it now! But after seeing photos, I totally agree with her that the lovely four-poster full-sized bed we got from a freecycler will not fit in that loft. Not to mention trying to get it up there. But I too would love to sleep in a loft, so I understand her insane desire to climb up and down that ladder. It probably wouldn’t work for me now, considering how few nights pass without me needing to get up to go to the bathroom at least once. You have to be young to sleep in a loft!

I guess I should do some work today, since I did absolutely zero yesterday.

I’m here but my tummy feels oogy again, and it’s raining/snowing out, and I just want to go back to bed. Blurgh.

The VunderLair is like that. I can actually see the Milky Way on a clear night, even with a full moon. The full moon casts enough light that you can read by it, too.

Things like that beat living in the Big City all to hell.
