Changing the world...one MMP at a time!

I’m not even pretending to try and catch up. It’s been a crazy place around here lately, but wanted to pop in to say hi.

hi.

Cold, wet and rainy. :frowning:

I just found out through Facebook that an acquaintance is in the hospital fighting for his life after an accident. Head trauma. He’s out of coma and he’s showing signs of awareness, thanks be, but he’s not out of the woods yet and there’s no guarantee of a full recovery.

I can’t say we’re very close (in fact, I haven’t seen him in years), but he’s one of those wonderful people who makes a lasting impression in a very short time. Understandly, he’s got an awful lot of people sending good thoughts in his direction and surrounding him with positive energy, but I’ll be adding mine to the mix.

Not a good start for a Friday. Sigh. I’m bracing myself for ever-increasing levels of suckage as the day goes on.

I’ll be curled up in fetal position under my desk if anyone needs me.

Sorry about the friend’s accident, McUne. {{McUne and friend’s family}}

Also, I started wondering if you should remove the Pecan Chews recipe that I submitted. It was from a book, and I don’t know if things like that are copyrighted or not… any body know?

Actually that was Manha Manha that had the friends accident.

Taxi, if you know the book name, I can add that in there, and I think we would be find. But then again, I’m no expert on copyrights. I say if we know the source, it should be added in. I did do that for a couple of online recipes that were submitted, included the link.

Anyone else care to chime in?

Either that or get a chamber pot.

In case you were thinkin’ about one, here’s a great housewarming gift if the shipping isn’t too much.

Good vibes going out to mcune friend and tater nodules.

Ain’t anybody else glad it’s Firday???

Hi Mr Bus… I know, I have been trying to catch up and well, I think it’s hopeless :stuck_out_tongue: :

The weather here is sunny and an expected high in the high 70’s to the low 80’s. Oh how I long for a cloudy, rainy day. A real rainy day. One where it just rains all day. It’s always sunny here. At least the wind quit blowing.

Since I will be starting a new job in a week, I have to get back in practice of getting up in the morning. No more sleeping until 930 in the morning, so today I got up at 730 and got straight into the shower when the Mr left for work. It’s a start. next week it will be a week of trying to get up at 600 am again.

Now to get cracking on the packing.

OK, I’ll break down and join the Food Channel. Two extremely easy and good recipes. And yes, most of the measurements are metric (or non-existant :o), sorry…

LAVENDER CHICKEN IN WHITE WINE

Ingredients:
4 Chicken hindquarters.
4 Medium potatoes, diced.
4 Medium yams, diced
Garlic cloves, skinned, to taste (I use a whole head, but vampires never bother me at night!)
1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
1 Tbsp. lavender (rosemary works, too)
100 ml. oil
800 ml. dry white wine
I don’t use any, but I suppose salt and pepper to taste.

Use a large stove-top pot. A soup pot will do, but a wider and shorter pot is probably better.

Heat oil, brown the chicken on all sides for a few minutes, adding the spices (except for the garlic cloves) as you do.

Once the chicken has been browned, add everything else. Bring to a boil. Cover. Lower heat. Simmer for about 75 minutes.

ROASTED VEGETABLES

This one is super, super easy.

Preheat oven to 225 C

Put tin foil on a baking tray, spread vegetables of choice on tray. I most commonly use Broccoli, Cauliflower, Onions, Potatoes and Yams; but Zucchini works very well, and I’m sure you can use almost anything else, as well.
Put a few half-heads of garlic amongst all the rest of the veggies. Unpeeled, un-anything – just put them there.

Make a mixture of Olive Oil, salt, pepper and some herbs (Rosemary, Italian Mix, Fine Herbs mix… any of these is good).
Pour or spread the mix on top of all the vegetables. They don’t need to drown in oil… probably less than half a cup for a full-sized tray will do!
Put in oven for an hour, about halfway up (so the tops get a bit browned)

Yum…! (especially the garlic cloves, once you tease them out of their pods)

Hugs, yays, boos as appropriate…!

This Firday can go right back in the box. I had to go up to Archivin’ Work at 9:30 to help the digitization guys get some things out of the literary collection that I worked on last year (aka “my baby”). Got there late so I had to run downstairs. I got a call later from upstairs saying that the digitization guys got there at 10:30 and would come back at 2 this afternoon. Then when I got to Reference Work I got a come to Jesus talk from my boss about slipping out early when I’m on the desk at night. So that’s wrecked my whole day.

snowbunny, your new house is so cute! The scenery is fabulous, where are you located, anyway? I almost bought a house very like it up on Mt Hood back when I was shopping for the house I live in now but I just couldn’t face the teeny kitchen issue and the teeny tiny lot–I would’ve been able to just almost swing a cat from the back door and hit all the boundaries. I have been planning on making a loft bedroom in my house–I’d have to resupport the roof but it would be so cool and then I could knock out the interior walls so instead of having a tiny 750 SF “two bedroom” I could have a nice open plan house with a distinct upper sleeping area. Since this house isn’t really practical for any more than a single person or a couple I don’t think I’d be messing up its market value any and would probably improve it considerably. All this takes moolah, though… le sigh

Got the grandkid over for the day as he doesn’t have school–we’re gonna take all the junk that’s accumulated over the winter and do the dump run, yay! He wrote the neatest persuasive essay about Barack Obama and I have to say that he is a really fine writer, especially for his age. He wrote a letter to the editor of a local paper last year which was published and they had NO idea a ten year old wrote it. I’m so not kidding, I’ve seen much worse writing examples from people in college. I’ll post the essay if anyone’s interested–it has footnotes as well! Okay, I brag, but he really is exceptional…

Rigs, don’t sweat it–from what they tell me heaven sounds like the most boring place possible, and if there’s anything worse than endless boredom I don’t know what it might be…

Mahna[sup]2[/sup], hope your friend gets better–that sucks.

Howdy Y’all! I’m all caught up with work stuff so I’m home now. Yay. It’s bright and sunny out so I just might go lounge by the pool. The water is way too cold yet to hop in but sittin’ out by the pool is nice. I have a brand new book of logic puzzles (book? guess it’s more like magazine, actually) that would entertain me nicely whilst lollin’. Envy me.

So, who’s first in line to smack me with a trout? :stuck_out_tongue:

Hello everyone. Today is my RDO so I’m enjoying the peace and quiet around the house.

Mahna, I hope your friend pulls through.

I need to get cracking on some chores, which include washing our wetsuits and stripping the beds and washing the bedding.

If the weather holds as promised, we’ll be out on the boat tomorrow. Plans are to hit the Y early, then come back and load up the boat and head out to the lake.

As I’m still fighting a cold and it seems to be getting worse, I don’t think I’ll be getting in the water.

My son has started track and had his first practice yesterday. He won’t know until next week what his event will be. It’ll be interesting to find out which one he’ll be in.

I guess I don’t have anything else to add.

Hugs and smooches to all (air smooches so you don’t catch my cold germs).

:smack: I blame my confusion on today being sort of a sleepy kind of day. :o

The name of the book and the author are already on the recipe.

Wash wetsuits? Don’t they get wet already by being immersed in water when you’re using them? :dubious: Color me Puzzled.

Good thoughts headed out for your friend, Muppet.

That’s a cute suggestion for a housewarming gift, Pugs. Although I think I shall see what I can get through freecycle here or thrift shops there first – our freecycle list has some nice stuff available (we snagged a beautiful roll-top oak desk for Papa Tigs a while back, easily worth a couple thou!), and apparently the thrift shops out snowbunny’s way also are loaded with gorgeous stuff that rich people give away when it’s barely used. Why pay full price?

Oh, and this:  is for your chamberpot suggestion!

Is it bedtime yet?

Mama Tigs, our wetsuits have been in the garage for a year and probably smell like cigarette smoke since we smoke out there. Also, yes, you do occassionally have to wash them because they can get funky. We’re not the only folks who use them, we let our friends use them when out on the boat with us.

People get all sweaty from being in the sun, mix that with their suntan oil or lotion, stuff them into one of our wetsuits, and…well, you get the picture right?

I have twenty minutes left of alotted goof off time, then I need to do my chores.

Well, if you get a chamber pot, make sure it’s the right size. Today The Nephew got an unfair scolding for wetting himself, as he’d asked for the pot too late - the real problem is that his pot is too small, he overshots the rim. Buying a larger size seems more appropiate than keeping a finger on his dick so it aims down, yaknow?

Remember those guys who wanted me so badly for a 6 months job in my town of birth? Well, there was some back and forth and they had to get back to me on Wednesday afternoon. But they didn’t. And nothing yesterday either.

Other folks (who wanted to give me an 11m job in another country) were also taking their time for the final decision.

And these guys who’d been hemming and hawing for two months finally realized that either they start NOW or leave it for September, which is way too late. 2-year project, Bilbao-Scotland.

So I’m going to be based in Bilbao, with trips to visit Nessie. The stress, the stress! goes off in search of touristy info for Scotland

Therefore, my apologies to those who’d like to put this Firday back into its box, but I need it

Nooner, that chicken sounds like a great candidate to be tried soon. Rosemary is one of the plants Mom has on her terrace, as she finally figured out that local plants would survive better there. So let’s see, steal some bits of plant and a bottle of white…

I’ll smack you, but it won’t be with a trout!

The picture is much more innocuous than the link suggests.

Yay for sleeping in. I should clean out my closet today.

Blurf! Note to self - several pitchers of margaritas and a handful of tequila shots make Dotty a sick girl! I have been feeling crappy all day (no sympathy needed - it was entirely self-inflicted) and am about to pack my pathetic self off to bed.

To add insult to injury, HRH had a tummy upset tonight, so five minutes after I put her to bed, she puked up all her dinner and bedtime milk in her cot, with such dexterity that she managed to cover all of her bedtime snuggly toys, the blanket, her sleeping bag, the cot bumper and the cot sheet with a milky partially-digested blend of mushroom and green pea risotto! :: pukey smilie :: My sensitive post-tequila stomach could have done without that!

Hugs, yays, boos etc. as appropriate. ::snooze:::

Huh? Whaaa? Oh yeah, bedtime! Nighty-night!

Nava- congrats on the new job… in Scotland

I think gotti just talked dirty to me.

Congrats on the new gig Nava!

I came in to get sump’n to drink. Ima go back and sit by the pool some more.
