My hair does not like the weather today. And I have something of a headache, have been terribly unproductive, and have a birthday party to go to later tonight. Grumble. Grumble.
Haze! You just reminded me… I’ve been meaning to tell you that you need not diet. You are much, much thinner than that Korean astronaut girl, so apparently if she’s thin enough to represent the country, then anorexia is no longer the norm. Right? (Besides, skinny people wanting to diet makes me sick)

Hazel is your hair supposed to look bad in those pictures? I think it looks lovely.
Pie - but that’s the thing, she’d be considered kind of fat in Korea. I know, rationally, that I don’t particularly need to diet and that Korean standards of skinniness are stupid, but once I get there the whole thing really stresses me out. Especially when I attend family gatherings and my aunts and uncles hint that I could stand to lose some weight. I shouldn’t let it get to me, but it does. Sigh.
Argent - thank you! I think it looks a bit crazy - I’m like that girl in that shampoo commercial that’s anal-rententive about everything being in place.
Well, then, obviously you should take me with you to your family gatherings and no one will complain about you.
I’m showered and cleaned of garden crud. It’s still nice out - temps in the mid 70s still - but it’s supposed to plummet into the 40s tonight. I’m waiting till the last minute to shut the windows.
I think tomorrow may be a clay day - at least partly. I still need to get shoes and jewelry for the wedding, but I don’t know if I’ll want to shop tomorrow. We shall see.
Did I mention that I can’t wear my wedding band any longer? The knuckle on my ring finger seems to have expanded - it was a real struggle to get the ring off last week, and I’ve tried several times to slip it back on, with no luck. Bummer. On the other hand, this is the year of our 25th anniversary - sounds like a good excuse to get a new ring, ya think?
**Pie ** - while you’re at, could you pretend to be my lesbian lover?
Maybe then they’d shut up about my marriage prospects.
FCM - totally. We can all help you pick one out.
taxi’s brownies are in the oven as we speak. I suppose I should make my weekly report to my parents before I go gadding off for the night.
Why do these few words fill me with dread??
Hugs for your folks, LiLi. I’m sorry to hear about the pup.
It’s still raining today, and they’re calling for even more rain tomorrow. I’m all migrainy today as a result, which is a bit of a pisser, because it means I have to bail on the Autechre show - methinks a wall of dissonant electronic noise at high volume is the last thing my achy head needs right about now. So The Boy will go solo to meet up with our usual concert buddy… he’s promised not to have too much fun without me.
Today’s mission was dishwasher shopping - it turned out that our old one wasn’t under warranty, and I didn’t like the idea of dropping $120 to fix a problem that would probably happen again and again and again (based on the reviews I saw from other people who had the same model). We eventually settled on a Miele that had very good reviews and no downsides besides the $1600 price tag. So now we’re quite a bit poorer, but at least we’ll only be doing dishes in the sink for another week before they come to install it and take away the old piece of junk. I’m counting down the days.
In other good news, my tomater seeds have sprouted. I’m six for six this year (normally I get one or two duds in a batch). YAY! I’m guessing we should be completely out of the danger zone for frost in another couple of weeks, at which point they’ll go into some containers. I’ll probably be begging for ways to use up tomatoes by the time the summer is through, but that’s fine by me.
I was thinking something like this.
Mahna, I wish I liked tomatoes. They’re fun to grow, but I hate eating them. :smack:
Yep, Haze, that pretty much defines the dread… <shudder>
Same post here. I slept late, got nothing accomplished, have no motivation, got a couple ppl stopping by and am expected at a cheerleading-themed party tonight. The less said about my hair (or appearance), the better.
…And a friend just dropped by. I helped him replace a bad tail light. It is way colder out than I thought. Shorts and shabby sweatshirt are totally insufficient for any duration. Yesterday morning at 7, it was 60 degrees. Today, barely above freezing.
Is it too early for a beer? That should help with my headache, right? :dubious:
Of course! Two problems solved in one day. Anything else you’d like me to clear up for you?

Now, now Haze, we all know MOOOOOOM wants something tasteful and refined like this.
LiLi your cake was a hit! I had to print out six copies of the recipe for folks.
Party’s over. Dishes are dishwashin’. I’s tahred. 'Twas fun though. Yeah it’s 9:25 P.M. on Saturday night and the party’s over. Whaddya want from a bunch of old farts? ![]()
ETA: jingles anytime is a good time for beer. It’s not just for breakfast anymore!
And we’re back to girl on girl action once again, I think I’ve created a monster!
I’ll be in my bunk.
I just talked to my Mother. :: pauses to beat my head against the wall :: It’s so frustrating to talk to her; it’s almost like we speak different languages. The words come out alright, but we can never seem to effectively translate the meaning behind them or something. It’s endless. At least we talked about one significant thing–getting the rest of my stuff from Illinois to Boston. (I moved to Boston with three suitcases on a plane; my grandparents brought some more when they came to visit a few months later, but most of it is in my Mother’s barn.) It sounds like she’s willing to take a trip out here with it which makes it much easier on me. Of course, I’ll pay for gas if she brings her own truck or flying back if she rents a U-haul.
Hawkeyeop should be home from work soon. He had to go in today because they’re going live with a new system on Monday. He went in for 9 this morning, and left just a little while ago. All has not gone smoothly with the transition process. I hope it checks out because they need it functional on Monday.
Have a good night everyone!
I’m more than happy to provide motivation, Mooooommmmmm. Especially since I’m the one who usually needs it.
Your pics made me smile, Haze. You’re silly.
And you have outstanding taste in replacement wedding rings, of course.
I was thinking I’d give taxi’s brownies a try too. They sound yummy. I’m about to head to the kitchen to make bread first, though. And I’ll be taking Soapy’s black bean and mango salad to a potluck on Tuesday. It sounds yummy. And I even have almost all of the ingredients on hand. (I’ll cheat and use frozen mangos; they’re amazingly like fresh when they’re defrosted.) So the Mumper recipe blog is paying off already! Thanks for putting it together, McUne. [I just went off to browse through the and forgot I hadn’t posted yet.] I’m hoping I’ll have time to get some of my recipes to McUne tomorrow.
I think I have everything I need for my taxes. I’m now going to go do a little more organizing, then it’s off to bed.
It’s cold and rainy now - glad I got some garden time in this morning. It looks like it’s going to be chilly the next couple days.

I am not having good luck with the DVDs from the library lately. A couple of weeks ago I checked out Alfred Hitchcock’s Blackmail (the first British talkie!). It worked fine for thirty minutes and then stopped right. at. the. murder. This is a sin punishable by the vilest death in any civilised nation. So I returned it and told the circulation person that the DVD had cracks in it, even showed them to her. She said “Okay, we’ll take it off the shelf.”
I checked out the second copy this week and went to clean it off before I put it in the player tonight. (I’ve learned it’s best to clean off rented/checked out movies before watching.) I noticed something odd about the disc. I took it to the nearest Roommate and asked “Does this disc look scratched to you?”
“Yep.”
“I will never get to see this movie,” I reply and put it back in the box. Circulation will get a detailed explanation about why Hitchcock DVDs should not be scratched come Monday.
I also checked out **Osama **just to see what it was like. I had suspicions when I read the descripton on the back of the case, but I decided to give it ten minutes. Ten minutes in the stop button was firmly pressed. “Yep, pretentious,” I declared. Back in the case it went.
So then I pull out a DVD my dad gave me for Christmas two years ago–A Touch of Frost, season 1. I watched the first epsiode of that instead. Good detective story. I can see why my dad gave it to me, though. The first episode has a side story dealing with Inspector Frost’s wife’s terminal illness and death. A little close to home for him to ever watch again. I had a hard time with it as well, but that’s why the Good Lord gave us fast forward buttons. The rest of the episode was beyond excellent. I love dry British humor. Love love luv.
I watched 28 Days last night and tonight I watched A Walk on the Moon–one of my favorite movies of all time–and I’d like it without Viggo! That movie is about me, IMO. Ok, I’m not 31, Jewish and it’s not 1969 anymore, but everything else is pretty much spot on. (but no blouse man in my future, sadly enough).
I wrapped the wedding presents(s) tonight whilst watching. We picked out Daughter’s prom dress, too. The store didn’t have the right color, so we thought we’d just come home and order it online. Turns out it’s an “in store only” dress. Can I get a huge  thank you. So, now we have to call the store to have them order it. Again,
The reception was nice. We talked a bit to a Chinese woman who has lived here since 1998. She works for [insert name of major phone company here] and they put her through grad school. They also (see how much I learn from the MMP?) paid for her visa thingy that Haze was talking about… She was very nice. The people on the other side of the table… not so much. I tried to make small talk–the weather, the wedding, the bride (they were groom side), where were they from etc, but all I got were monosyllabic replies. I didn’t even get smiles. Fuck you, wedding guests! There, that felt better.
Morning all. Head colds and loose bowel motions all round the Gumdrop household this morning - oh JOY! But, we still need to get our :snerk: sh*t together to go see HRH’s doctor this morning for her 12-month check-up and get her 12-month immunisations done. Oh JOY! Aaaannnd, depending on how masochistic I am feeling, hubby also wanted to get HRH’s ears pierced today (before MIL takes it upon herself to get it done in some dodgy locale not of my choosing!). Sigh! Is it bedtime yet?
