Swampus–it’s every Friday lately. I used to talk to nice people who were eager to learn about what to do before and after their surgery. In the past month, it’s been one crazy after another. One thing the crazies do–they delay my leaving, so my hours rack up. I got 21 hours this week–I’m scheduled for 16. All to the good–show me the money!
Oh, god, no! Host is married with a couple of littl’uns. We just hung out for a few hours and chatted with guy I TA’d with a couple of years ago.
Windows are open and ceiling fans are spinnin’ here. Zeldadog is running around the backyard eating grass and having a wonderful time. Good-bye winter! See you in December!
I need to go wake up Complicated Roommate so we can go get our taxes.
Hugs for beebs, Li-Li Family Dog, and Pie. Have fun on the boat, Taters. That’s not how you clean out your insides, FCM.
For the rest of you, have a funny cat video.
Sending more good vibes your Grandpa’s way pie. It does sound like your Grandma is anxious about him, good for you on skipping TVLand to chauffer her around.
Hey Traveller what recipes do you like from the Enchanted Broccoli Forest? I got that one a bit ago for my birthday and I never did try any of the recipes. I keep thinking I should pull it out and try something…
Mooooom don’t foam at the mouth… someone might think you have rabies!
I’m up but not yet caffeinating. Wanna go see a movie in about three hours (it’s the only showing time) but I also have to stop and return the shoes, and I wanna go to the yarn store to sign up for the retreat, which means I’d be cutting it close to get to the movie on time (it’s the only time it plays on this end of town).
Crap, maybe I’ll just register by phone because of the buses. If I drove I could make it all in one fell swoop, but guess not.
Mom came up and asked me to look up a concert for her (Phil McDermott) and see how much tickets cost because she wants to call. I told her to go away, it’s her birthday she’s not paying for a ticket.
(I’d already seen he was coming and knew she’d want to see him, so I got her a ticket.)
Been having weird dreams all week too. Last night the one that woke me up was me driving around with my brother. It was winter and icy and stuff and we kept passing by lakes that were iced over (but were clear, like an ice cube in a glass) and had these weird cracks in them. Well as we’re driving police cars pass us by with sirens going and we shrug and keep going when suddenly the road just ends and we’re flying through the air and falling down towards one of these ice cube lakes and we hit it on the side of the truck and go flipping… which is when I woke up.
I’m gonna go get coffee.
Damn.
Can’t you indulge me and use your formidable power of descriptive narrative and make it true? And if Mr MNH can look like Viggo Mortensen and actually maybe be him, that’d be good too.
I’m off to a wedding.
Happy Saturday, y’all! It’s gorgeous down here in Southest Texas. I’ve been outside weedin’ the [del]back forty[/del] flowerbed in the back yard.
I don’t even like to do that stuff, but today it’s enjoyable. Prolly 65° and breezy. I had to come in and take a break though - I’m gettin’ old and my back was complaining. I’m gonna go back out in a minute. I want to plant something back there, but it will have to survive two dogs trampling it. So bushes it will have to be. That’s where they like to chase the squirrels.
I also am doing loads of laundry (loads - hee! ya get it?) and I washed the shower curtain liner.
Mr Rebo had to work this morning, but should be getting off soon. He is gonna try to get some sod ordered, or bought or something.
Tonight is Meatball Stroganoff night. Mmm. The brisket was really good, but I screwed up and forgot to cut it against the grain, so it was kind of stringy and chewy. :smack:
Ok - back to weeding.
Later!
**Taxi ** I made your brownies this morning and they were delish!! No more boxed brownies for me. Hubby prounced them a succeess.
Brownies are made, bread is going, laundry is going. Other than that I’ve got nothing.
We have grass! He’s unloading the first pallet. Yay!
Moooommmmm, maybe you were cussin’ or talkin’ dirty and God thought you should wash your mouth out with soap!?
Internets was playing up all day, plus we were busy having a proper birthday party for HRH with some friends. My friend took all the pics, so when she gives me a copy I will upload them for you. She also got a cool little video of HRH bopping away to some salsa/latin music! HRH also started walking properly in the last couple of days (sigh, my baby is now officially a toddler), although she still prefers to get your finger in a death-grip and lead you to where she wants to go when she’s in a hurry! Cheeky little minx!
Hugs for beebs, Li-Li’s parents’ pup, and Cutie.
I think it’s nearly my bedtime! Yep, ciao folks!
Well, that was the world’s shortest wedding. Now we wait until the reception at 230pm. The bride looked very nice. I liked the music very much: Pachebel, Handel’s water music and the hymn, “Holy, Holy, Holy”. The dude, I mean the pastor who married them talked like a dude. Very jarring to these old ears, man.
It is sleeting out here. Poor bride!
Note to all young (and older) women: for formal wear, your shoes should never be lighter in tone than your dress/outfit. Bridesmaids, I’m looking at YOU. (burgundy dresses with silver shoes. Ouch)
**Dotty ** - cussin’?? Moi?? Nevah!!! <adjusts halo and smiles beatifically>
The sun is trying to break thru, but I just can’t make myself go play in the dirt. I really should. It’s gonna be chillier tomorrow. I’d rather not.
Maybe I can force myself, for just an hour. I can do an hour. Right?
Right??
<sigh>
Miserable weather ugh. At least it’s stopped raining.
ETA: I have to get a baby gift for Lutheran Frat Boy - his wife is having their daughter in August, and I’ll be gone by June. There’s a cross-stitch pattern I like, but I’m not sure what I should embroider it on. Burp cloth? Onesie? Bib?
we had some very noisy thunder last night and this afternoon, but the sky is clearing now. Off to a few errands, then to a birthday dinner (not mine), then back to the pile of papers
Sorry about your parents’ dog, LiLi.
Funny cat video, Spaz! Yay for grass, Rebo.
Looking through the cookbook, I find I’ve made embarrassingly little, FB. The bread-baking tutorial is excellent. I’ve made several of the breads (and made other breads using her breadmaking method). I’ve also made the Peach and Rum Puddingcake a bunch of times (made it again at Easter this year, although I didn’t really like how it turned out - I think my niece over-stirred the batter. I’m thinking I might make it again this weekend because it used to be one of my favorites and see if I can do better. I’ve made soups from her other books and they’ve always been really really good. (The borscht from the Moosewood Cookbook is to die for.). My favorite cookbook of hers is Still Life with Menu. I’ve made quite a few things from that book and always liked them a lot. Of course, now that I’m leafing through Broccoli Forest, I’m seeing several recipes that I’d really like to try. I’ll report back as I try them.
Did I mention I spent about 3 hours in the garden? Go me! I cleared out about 4 x 4 and did the lasagna gardening approach (layers of soil, green, newspaper). I’ll be placing plants in containers on the area this year while everything breaks down. Then I’ll replant. I’m going to clear out the whole area next to the garage this way. It really needs to be completely renovating. The only item that is going to survive this is the mock orange that smells really really pretty when it blooms. (But I’ll probably prune it after it blooms -it’s getting pretty crowded.) I’m taking pictures as I go. Trying not to do too much at one time so that I don’t get sick of it.
Now I need to start to get all my papers together so that I can do taxes. Big fun. Once I have stuff together, I’m going to go out to Lowe’s and Target for a few things.
Then it’ll be back here to actually do taxes.
Hope everyone’s having a nice Saturday.
GT
Braggart!!

Did I mention I’m thinking about spending an hour in the garden. Maybe.
OK, fine. I’ll put my grubbies back on and get out there.
Happy now???
I knew I wasn’t the only one
Well, it looked like we’d get a line of thunderboomers passing through, but instead we’ve had rain. With a break, and then more rain. Rinse and repeat. Thus far it’s started raining, hard, about eight times. Falling-straight-down rain, no wind, so there is that; the thunderboomers passed by to the north and south of us, to Rusty’s relief. But Papa Tigs is quite pleased because this means he doesn’t have to mow today.
Can someone please tell me to get my behind in gear and get this work done, or at least get in the rhythm of working and get a chunk done today? I really, really need to at least make some headway on working. But it’s so damp that I’m just so achy that I cannot manage to concentrate. Stoopid weather.
OK, MamaTigs, get your buns in gear, dammit! If I can spend an hour digging in the dirt, you can lash yourself to the keyboard. Dammit!
Yes, I did it. I spent my hour out there getting grubby. I moved about 8 volunteer forsythia to where some ugly evergreens used to be. I also moved a few hosta and a clump of coneflowers. And I dug up a variety of hostas for a woman at work - I had given her 2 or 3 varieties a couple of years ago, and I tried to get her a few more. They’re bagged and in my car - I just need to remember they’re there on Monday.
So I’m grubby. I’ll shower eventually. But I’m not doing anything else productive today. An hour is quite enough.

Apparently you’re also going to have to give me The Look, FCM, because just fussing at me isn’t doing it. Sigh.
I guess it might help if I really gave a shit, you know?
BioTigs, young lady, you march yourself right in there and get busy! Do you think that [del]drivel[/del] work is just going to do itself? Well, it’s not! I said march right in there and get busy! I mean it! Don’t give me that look! You want your face to freeze like that, young lady?
Howzat?
Dindin is made. Chicken Ala BBBobbio and Moi is grilled and warmin’ in the slow cooker. How did we ever live without slow cookers? Beans are done and warmin’. Taco dip is made. All I gotta do for dindin is run the bbq bread under the broiler for a minute. We’re dinin’ Al Fresco tonight bein’ as it’s quite lovely out.
LiLi I made your easy cake. I’ll serve it with some fresh sliced strawberries and some real whipped cream. An easy, nummy dessert!
Ok, I need to go set things up. I’ve got beer chillin’ in a cooler and I need to set out some liquor for cocktails if desired. I’m even bein’ generous and lettin’ folks drink the Crown tonight.
Later Y’all!
Pick me! Pick me!!!

Ok, finally I get to read this.
Busy, busy, though. Gotta run again.
