Yes, it was the octopus.
And on preview I see I must give **Pie ** some attention too after I read her post.

Yes and while you’re at it… Tell me what’s in your spoiler box. I can’t read those on my phone.
And beebs, I’m glad to hear that your psychiatrist has been helpful. (((beebs))) and kisses too!
kai, I loved your octopus recipe too. Very interesting.
You don’t know how ironic that is, now I HAVE you make you wait.

muah right back!
:: pout ::
Hey beebs, check your email.
Hmmm, maybe I should regale you with a How To Catch an Octopus story. I’ll work on it for tomorrow. Now I am off to watch Desperation. I hope the story doesn’t get too mangled in the translation.
Hey pie, we can share the love, I’m sure he can handle two of us, I seem to remember him doing it before!
In all seriousness, wrt your foot and the needle hitting a nerve, owie owie owie! I have some pronounced neuropathy in my right foot, and a bit in my left foot, so I know exactly the kind of pain you are talking about. (((hugs))) As for grampa pie, he is in my prayes. It sounds like gramma pie is fretting and worried. You are to be commended for giving up TVland and taking them shopping. Oh, and I hope that your UTI problems clear up, they are another misery to be endured. I use to get them frequently, now, not so often.
Okay, I am off to my movie. G’night!
And so much for sleeping in on Saturday. Stoopit circadian rhythm!!
I woke up around my usual time, but I refused to acknowledge it. I’d have fallen right back to sleep, but Taz was doing a bed tour (channeling HRH - pay attention to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!) and **FCD ** was snore-y and restless. I did doze off till around 6, but that was it.
The birdies are in full voice this morning. When I took the doggies out (very mild this AM - I was just in slippers and a light robe) the tweeting and twittering and such was amazing. Plus there was very little vehicle noise in the distant background, so I could pretend I lived in a really isolated corner of the world for a few minutes.
**FCD ** wound up getting up, despite working till late last night. He’s back at his computer. But first, he helped me haul the dirty laundry downstairs, and I’ve got the first load going. I figure 4 or 5 for the weekend - don’t think I’ll do them all today. I’m hoping to get outside for a little while so I can divide my monster hostas - that depends upon the potential rain. Beyond that, who knows what the day may hold??
Happy Saturday! And now I caffeinate.
Vertical, caffeinated, off to work.
Up and caffeinating – I actually slept a bit later than usual this morning; I woke up at 5 AM but rolled over and went back to sleep! I’m having an asiago bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon with my coffee this am and boy is it good.
Hugs to Beebs and CutiePie - I’m interested in seeing those pants cookies, Pie! I’ve no real plans for this weekend; I finished the book I had been reading (something called “The Russian Concubine” which was a bit violent at points but interesting - set in Junchow China in the late 1920s). Now I’ve got to decide what to read next, or I may just re-read something that I enjoyed reading before. Yes, I do that from time to time.
And oh yes, I’ll definitely be making/baking/cooking some of the most delicious recipes on the recipe blog!
Slow morning here, huh?
Second load of laundry is washing, first load is in the dryer, I’m all showered and dressed for yard grubbies a little later on. I’m having a bowl of generic corn chex, then I’ll empty the dishwasher. Woohoo, I’m a wild woman!!!
Incidentally, swampy, I forgot to mention that my inlaws have the storm door with the retracting screen - it is way cool!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. I need to get my bear butt in gear and get somewhat presentable. Today (this mornin’) I get to go help drag pecan limbs down to the burn pit at the church. Yay me! This must be done so mowin’ amongst the pecan trees may commence. This must be done cause next Saturday late afternoon my church is hosting a picnic for the churches in the local Convocation and plans are to picnic amongst the trees. We’re doin’ bbq, which means next Saturday will be a day of smokin’ <snerk> butts <snerk>, makin’ our world famous baked beans (they’re canned beans all doctored up and always turn out good) and copious amounts of coleslaw. Why do I agree to do these things! Oh yeah, I like it.
Oh, and we got folks comin’ over to eat late this afternoon, so gotta deal with that too.
Ok, the makin’ of presentableness is about to commence.
Later Y’all!
Good morning, all.
Hugs to beebs, Pie and anyone else who needs them.
Note to HRH: lend us your Mommy for a few minutes from time to time, please.
Just re-read the bread-making instructions in The Enchanted Broccoli Forest to figure out why my bread isn’t quite how I want it. I think I might be under-kneading. It also might be rising too fast. I’m thinking of making No-Knead Bread (I think you have to register to get to the recipe; I’ll post my version of the recipe if it works out so that it can go in the blog). I need to get all my paper stuff organized so that I can get my taxes done tonight. It’s not raining outside right now (it’s supposed to rain later), so I think I’m going to start the weekend in the garden.
Had a nearly-hard-boiled egg and toast for breakfast. Should find some fruit.
Back after a bit…
GT
No-knead bread is good, but I found getting it into the red-hot baking dishes pretty harrowing.
My parents’ dog has throat cancer.
He had tumours in his throat and nearly died several years ago, and they’ve come back. He’s going into palliative care . My parents, expecially my Mum, are going to be really unhappy when he dies. I doubt they’ll get another dog, since Dad is- well, they’re both- fairly old. Taking care of the dog is a great deal of their lives. I hope the grandbaby can substitute, a little. They’ve had dogs all the time for almost thirty years.
I think they got him the fall after I met Mr. Lissar. I met him just before our last dog died.
Third load in the washer. Dishes done. Screen installed in the window next to me - kitteh wants OUT!! Poor kitteh… ![]()
One part of me wants to get out and play in the dirt, but the other part of me wants to be a bum. <sigh> I think I’ll finish the laundry I’ve got going now, then go out for an hour or so. I just want to divide a few hostas - how hard can it be??
Morning, all. We’ve got tweety birds tweeting away, and when the breeze blows a bit, it’s just lovely and springlike. It’s really warm this morning, too, already 70F (21C for you non-Murkins). It won’t last – we’re having a front coming through later, and tomorrow it’ll only be 55F or so (13C) – but it’s definitely an enjoy-it-while-we’ve-got-it day.
Today is Moving Day for snowbunny. I wish I was there to help, except that we’ll be doing our own version of Moving Day for her next month, so I guess I’ll get it out of my system at that point. I’m still madly envious of her little cabin. I probably will be for a long time.

What are the pants-shaped cookies for, Pie? I confess to being mystified. Please do show us pictures, they sound fun!
Off to do something constructive. Or not.
Well, that was, um, interesting…
I went downstairs to get the towels out of the dryer and toss the jeans in. And I decided to throw another load of sheets in the washer while there. Boring and routine, right? Well…
The jeans were in the dryer, tumbling. I threw the sheets and my purple slippers into the washer. Then I slid out the drawer where the detergent, softener, and bleach go in. I scooped some detergent and was moving it to the washer, breathing (this is important.) As I carried the scoop from the detergent bucket to the machine, I bumped something. The scoop and the detergent went flying, and besides going all over the floor, I managed to inhale some of the powder. ICK!!!
So I choked a bit and spit out what soap powder that I could, then I took out the soap drawer thing to rinse it out. As I brought it back to the washer, I dropped it and it popped apart into 3 pieces. Luckily, it didn’t break, so I popped it back together. I was finally able to get soap and softener dumped in without another mess, then pulled out the shopvac to clean up the mess.
Now I’m eating some peanuts, trying to get rid of the icky detergent taste. Hope I don’t start foaming at the mouth.
And I’m still avoiding yard work. I just don’t feel like it. I’m such a slug today.
This seems deliberately ambiguous. :dubious: Did you do more than share bar space with Mr MNH? Spill it.
I am about to flatiron my hair and then I don’t know–do something else that needs to be done around here! I got home last night at 830 pm.
Oh, and I had to talk to this one guy. Here is a paraphrased transcript of our convo. I swear I am a loonie magnet. Sadly, it isn’t Canadian currency. Mr X is 45, with no previous medical history of importance. His surgery is minor (in terms of risk and procedure–I don’t mean to say he should not feel anxious about it). I will spare you the bit where he couldn’t remember how to spell his second wife’s name.
Me: Good evening; is this Mr X? This is All the Blessings of the Earth and Then Some Hospital calling.
Mr X: Yeah. I gotta question. I’m going to be really nervous when I have this surgery.
Me (still waiting for question): You’re not alone in that. yes?
Mr X: Well, you know how you just have pills laying around the house? Well, I have some from years ago and I was wondering if it would be all right if I took a few before the surgery.
Me (blankly): You have old pills laying around your house? What kind of pills are they?
Mr X: I think they’re Xanax or some generic stuff from years ago. They’re old, though, and I’m just not sure–
Me: How old are they? What is the dosage of the pills? You’re not sure they’re Xanax?
Mr X: I don’t know the dose on them. They’re gosh more than a couple of years old. My friend told me that old pills don’t turn into poison, they just lose their strength after awhile. I’m pretty sure they’re Xanax.
Me: That depends on the pill. I don’t know if Xanax does that. You don’t know how old they are? What’s the dosage on them? Xanax comes in 2 common strengths. The dose is on the blister pack.
Mr X: They’re not in blister packs.
Me: Are they in the container from the pharmacy? Just read the label to me.
Mr X: Nope. They’re not in the bottle thing they came in. They’re just here and I was wondering–
Me: What color are they? What do you keep them in?
Mr X: little white pills. Doctor gave them to me after my first wife died. They’re just around. Some are in the cabinet in the bathroom.
Me: I want to be sure I understand you correctly. You have stray, small, white pills that you’re not sure the age of and you’re not sure what they are, and you want to tell you that it’s ok to take these before surgery? I cannot do that, Mr X. I do not think it’s safe to take these pills. You should throw all those pills away. My suggestion is that you want to call you doctor and ask him for a new Rx for Xanax and if it’s ok to take the pill Monday morning.
Mr X: Well, it’s all for this surgery. My first wife died on the operating table at your hospital, so I’ll do what I want!
Good morning everyone. I’m vertical and caffienating.
Very shortly, I’ll have to get cleaned up and get ready to go to the Y to work out.
After the workout, and assuming the weather and temps cooperate, we’re taking the boat out.
This is the extent of my plans for today.
It’s supposed to get up to about 54F here today, MamaTigs, which is the warmest it’s been in months! And it’s bright and sunny. It looks, weatherwise, like a good day to move. Having moved in the middle of brutal summers before I will definitely take what I’ve got here! I wish you were here to help, too, I can use all the help I can get. But I think we’ll manage okay. There’s only the one big heavy awkward piece, and the rest is mostly boxes or, better, plastic storage bins with lids and handles.
I’m about as ready as I can be at this point. I still need to either find more boxes, or just take some stuff over there, empty the boxes, and reuse them. I have a feeling that’s what I’ll end up doing.
yawn I didn’t get enough sleep again last night. I foresee an early bedtime for me tonight, after a lovely afternoon of settling in and nesting. I always enjoy getting myself set up in a new place, it’s the part of the process that involves actually moving the stuff that I hate. Even packing is fine by me.
yawn
rigs you attract the crazies in the midwest, I attract ‘em in the southeast. Ummmm… maybe he should take the pills. Ok not really. He really shouldn’t. It is never a good idea to go about swallowin’ random unknown pills.
I’m back from pecan limb pickin’ up. It’s rainy here now but we got all the big stuff up which was the purpose anyway. The last batch I loaded onto twuck I did in the rain. I knew I wouldn’t melt. I ain’t no wicked witch.
Now I have a sinus headache. I’m also all clean and refreshed. I’m thinkin’ some Benadryl [sup]TM[/sup] and a nap would be nice right now. I gotta get goin’ on some stuff for this evenin’ also. It’s really annoyin’ how when you invitate folks over for food they expect to actually eat. I already have the N.O.T. sallit made and the baked beans are actually ready to be baked. I also gotta grill the Chicken Ala BBBobbio and Moi* but that won’t take too long. So, I got time for a nap.
Later Y’all!
It’s thundering and raining. I actually went outside, pulled a few weeds, and was about to start on the hosta. Then I heard thunder. I barely got back into the house when the rain started. So no gardening for now. Bummer.
