Changing the world...one MMP at a time!

Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiirst?

ETA: Indeed.

Taxi’s brownies turned out quite nicely. We had a rather subdued night - minimal drinking. That Guy and Minister’s Lad were cracking up because I COULD NOT restrain myself from making snarky retorts to New England Gentleman’s new girlfriend. She’s nice enough but amazingly dumb and tries to cover it up by being pretentious. Fortunately she’s also clueless. Even so I’ll have to behave better in the future.

All those rings look delightfully hideous.

I tried to find a pic of my current ring on line - I guess they no longer make it. It’s yellow gold base with a brushed band around the outside and “carved” white gold trimmed details bordering the brushed area. Unfortunately, the white gold plating and the brushed details are worn off. And there’s the size thing.

I was browsing a few sites and I saw some I like - lucky for me, I don’t have expensive taste. FCD’s wearing my grandfather’s band - it’s plain gold with my grandfather’s name and his wedding date engraved inside. Way cool. Maybe I’ll just get a plain gold band to match it. Minus the engraving.

Clearly, Dotty doesn’t grasp the concept of “vulgar” ostentation. I actually saw a woman in LA once with several (genuine) multi-carat diamond rings strewn about her hands; I honestly had never seen diamonds so large as to be vulgar before. I’m here to testify that they exist.

But Rosie hit the mother lode!

I’m here this morning. Papa Tigs took the Idiots off on an exciting trip! in the car! to Sam’s, so the house is very quiet. I hope he takes them off to play again today – although yesterday, at the school yard, Isaac found the two largest puddles and managed to coat his tummy with mud again. He was SO pleased with himself. Idiot dog!

snowbunny is in her new place, but has no internet service there. Fortunately (or unfortunately?), she’s at work for the next couple of days, so we’ll be hearing from her anyway. Poor baby, she’ll have to PAY for internet service! Shocking and disgraceful, not being able to piggyback for free off someone else’s network! What is wrong with people these days?

Good morning everyone.

We wasted a perfectly gorgeous day yesterday working out. We were at the Y so long, that we decided not to go out on the boat. Today, the clouds are rolling in, so there won’t be any wakeboarding.

On the plus side, yesterday’s workout was phenomenal. Besides working out with the weight machines, we ran, and ran, and ran. We ran to a park, around the lake in the park, and back to the Y. Upon getting back to the Y, we did (more for me) abs. I had already done abs on some of the machines, but opted to go ahead and do abs with the guys too.

We came home washed cars and got cleaned up to go out to dinner. One of the trainers who works at the Y also works at a local restaurant, so she made reservations for us and took really good care of us last night. I was a good girl however, and ordered from their “lite” menu. I had a honey roasted roma tomatoes and mozarella salad. It was actually very good. Because I was a good girl, I ordered a desert from their “lite” menu, which consisted of deep fried wonton wrapper/crisp thingies, marscapone, and non fat cream cheese, and various berries. It was very tasty, but I shared with my husband and our friend. I couldn’t even finish it, so our friend took it home with him.

Seeing as how both my dinner and my dessert added up to only 900 calories, I didn’t feel too bad. That was all the food I had for the day, as I didn’t have breakfast or lunch. However, I’m sure the four kamikazes I drank didn’t help the calorie count any. That’s okay, we’re usually good. At least I didn’t eat what I really wanted. I really wanted gnocchi with alfredo saunce.

I hope HRH is doing better today, Dotty.

I must say those rings that you are all are linking to are, um, well…atrocious. Good Lord, who wears that stuff? I picture really old retired ladies in Florida wearing them.

I really need to go grocery shopping today. I wish I could talk my husband into doing it once in awhile. I just get sick of doing it all the time.

I think I’m going to cruise the Dope for awhile and relax. I’m the only one who is up right now.

I don’t think my mother wears her wedding band anymore - it’s a set of double rings with a raised design that keeps getting caught on stuff. She’s also lost weight since then so I think the rings are too big for her fingers now.

That just reminds me - for her wedding present, her mother gave her this set of sapphires set in silver that is absolutely beautiful. She’s promised to hand them down to me once I get married. Well, there’s ONE reason to get married sooner rather than later. :stuck_out_tongue:

Those are some rings. [sub]my god they’re ugly[/sub]

I used to wear my wedding band and ring, but I gained weight and it no longer fits. When we had been married 5 years, we added to lil diamonds to the setting (it was a solitaire). The band is engraved with our wedding date, May 16, 1987. I am not interested to know if you weren’t alive then–I feel old enough already!

Things are good here, but a tad surreal. The Husband is having me vet his choices for living quarters for him. He asked, and I gave input and then I realized–how weird is that? Is he going to ask my opinion on future dates as well? We laughed about it. We suck at marriage, but we seem to do imminent divorce well.
Stopped by Trader Joe’s last night. I have a new addiction: chocolate covered edamame. Damn, they’re good. Off to library soon FOR MY LAST SUNDAY THERE. Thank god.

rigsy, I foresee you becoming Reba on the *Reba * show, wrt to your impending divorce.

I am glad that it is friendly and not acrimonious.

Still nothing accomplished here. I’ll have to get in the shower and cleaned up soon.

Rigs, good on you guys–it’s natural that since you’ve been used to relying on each other for decision making that you’ll continue to do so for a while. When my second husband and I were divorcing he would come over for dinner three or four times a week for the first year and introduced me to his new girl friend (that he’s married to now) to make sure I approved. Amicable divorces are a blessing; as much a blessing as a bad one is a bane.

Wow, that’s some jewelry all right–perhaps it should be spelled jooooolreeee!!1!! to differentiate it from the tasteful stuff. That brings back some memories of the first couple years after my stepdad died. My mom refused to sleep in their bed and instead camped on the TV room couch until just recently, when she moved to a new house and bought a proper bed for herself. She apparently didn’t sleep much and late at night there’s pretty much nothing on but the shopping channels, so for every conceivable gift giving occasion I got tons o’tacky ass bling. All in gold tone–I wear nothing but silver. All with gigantic fakey colorful “stones”–I wear nothing but amethyst (my birthstone) and a few other semiprecious stones. I had quite the collection of it up until I sold a bunch at a garage sale. I still have a bit left but I figure that my son’s soon-to-be stepdaughter will appreciate it when she’s a little older for playing dressup.

My my but the google ads are being all sorts of helpful wrt wedding rings.

Back from churchification and [del]face stuffin’[/del] lunch. Both were good. I have leftover lunch for dindin tonight or lunch tomorrow, dependin’ on when I want to eat it.

It’s not exactly <snerk>worthy, but here goes…

** You will profit soon from an investment opportunity.**

Once I get internet, my place is going to be perfect for me. At least I can get here at work, though, until then.

On the other hand, I’m at work, and I’m so tired I can’t see straight. That’s a bit better than yesterday afternoon when I was so tired I felt queasy, but I really didn’t need to get up and go anywhere today. Stoopid job.

Sleeping in the loft on an air mattress isn’t going to work out. I woke up at 2 and was freezing; I think I need more insulation between me and the bed and the floor than just the air. I ended up yanking the blankets under me as well as on top, but I think until I get an actual mattress I will sleep on the futon downstairs.

yawn Is it naptime yet?

Things to Do This Week (ignore if you don’t need to do them):

  1. renew nursing license

  2. dental appt on Tuesday!

  3. finish or at least amend draft of paper for 505

  4. finish practicum on Tuesday afternoon.

  5. collect all practicum stuff and send to faculty advisor

  6. grocery store

  7. get bike in for overhaul; ask re front brake rubbing

  8. call [music store here] re guitar lessons as attempting to do this on my own has not happened and will not happen.

  9. do not make brownies, cookies, cakes, fudge etc. If hungry, drink big glass water; if still hungry then may eat.

  10. take stuff to the “poor children” (what we call Salvation Army here–long story)

  11. dope daily, but not as long.

What’s on your to do list?

… in bed…Why did Eliot Spitzer come to mind…? <snerk>

**snowbunny ** - would a foam mattress pad on the air mattress provide enough insulation?

Last load of laundry is in the dryer. It’s grey and dreary out - a perfect day to do nothing. I’m thinking of making up a bunch of twice-baked N.O.T. - I know they freeze well, so it’s a way to have side dishes ready to go. Plus I don’t have to worry about them sprouting in the pantry - I’ve had to toss more over the years because we don’t eat that many under normal circumstances.

Yep, I think it’s off to the kitchen with me.
#6 should probably be on my list. The rest - not so much.

Grade papers.
Send out resumes.
Sent letter of inquiry to universities regarding RA positions.
Grade papers.
Sign up for grad school reunion.
Work on cross stitch.
Start packing winter clothes to send back home.
Plant flowers in front veranda box.
Grade papers.
See about getting health certificate for Olive.
Making flight reservations to Seoul.
Revise thesis for writing sample.
Decide whether I’m going to take the stupid TOFEL just for Columbia’s application.
Decide whether I’m going to re-take the GRE.
Decide where I’m going to apply.
Write to professors about recommendation letters.
Grade papers.

Did I mention grading papers?

Oh, question. I found a dress on eBay that my mom might like. I’d like to get her something just as a kind of “thank you” thing. My mom’s in her 50s but looks pretty young and is skinnier than me, and dresses pretty conservatively.

What do you think?

As an aside, I wore a low-cut black lace top last night and the guy sitting next to me couldn’t stop staring at my boobs and trying to flirt with me. I was amused, mostly because last time I met him he was trying desperately to flirt with Scottish Darling and called me “the Asian chick” and called her “the hot chick.”

I believe it’s spelled *B-L-I-N-G-B-L-I-N-*G.

**Rigs **-- Not really surprised you’re ending up good friends with your soon-to-be-ex. I honestly think some couples are meant to be friends but not lovers, and even if it takes 20 years to figure this out, it’s still true. Makes for an easier separation, that’s for sure… which is a Very Good Thing.

From your list, #2,6,9 and probably 11 apply.

Well, give him credit… as time goes by his taste in females is getting better

Get well wishes for **HRH **and anyone else feeling under the weather (**SnowBunny **I think?)

I really should be busy doing item #11 off of Rigs’ list. Especially the second part of item #11… :o

Whoops, wrong thread. That was supposed to be in the Sequential Thread Thread.

Oh well, since I’m here. How about some of these rings, FCM?
Celebrate liquid refreshment!
If it’s good enough for Princess Diana, it’s good enough for anyone.
It’s “clean my room day.” Just vacuumed the floor and am about to tackle the bathroom. If I don’t come back, avenge my death.

No it isn’t!!!

this is the right thread. It was just the wrong post! :stuck_out_tongue:

ETA: I see you sensed my thoughts from afar

The edit function is fun, isn’t it?

  1. Call the new secretary I’m going to hire to tell her I wanna hire her.
  2. Call the principal at the school she works at now to say I’m stealing her best TA.
  3. Duck and hide.
  4. Make the gym at least 4 times this week.
  5. Call Bruce the bus guy (he sells IC buses, and I have to put in this year’s order) to get him in for a meeting.
  6. See the therapist Tuesday.
  7. NIU/Notre Dame baseball game Wednesday night.
    Hmm, slow week.

Laundry is DONE!!! And I’ve got the rest of the bag of russets in the oven, baking. Once they’re done and somewhat cooled, I’ll cut 'em, scoop 'em, mix the innards with cheese and onions and butter and stuff, then restuff 'em. Most will be wrapped and frozen, but some will be eaten with tonight’s poke roast. Yum.
