Hey all, It’s a grey Sunday, although the temperature is at 47 F and we didn’t get the rain/snow which was in the forecast. Both my daughter and I have headaches, stuffy noses and scratchy throats and while we would like to attribute it to allergies, her best friend recently had a virus, and I am afraid that is the more likely scenario. We are both pushing liquids and rest.
Last night was not pleasant, my rls kicked (oh hah) in something awful, and at 4:00 am I finally got up and took some more muscle relaxer and xanax. (Oh, how I miss my oh-so-expensive neurontin!) Then I sat up reading (The Witching Hour by Anne Rice) and I am not exactly sure what time it was when I was able to lie down and finally fell asleep. I do know that the sky was light, so it must have been around 8:00 am. I woke up at 1:00 pm and got skiffman and my daughter up. We have made up for lost time though, the house has been swept and mopped, I have a pot roast in the oven smelling all beefy and garlicy, and Rice Crispy Treats were requested for afters.
The big news of the weekend is that I was casually searching Google for a lost email friend, and I found him! I met him back in '97, when he was a 17 year old. He’s British, and after finishing his basic schooling (what is here called high school) he went on to the University of Liverpool, became a surgeon, and is now back in whatever they call it over there to transfer from surgeon to general practitioner. Interesting fact, as he is not a practicing doctor he is now referred to as Mr. instead of Dr. I was quite surprised, as it seems here in the US once a Dr. always a Dr. It’s good to chat with him again, hurray for finding misplaced friends.
Ah, a beam of sunlight is illuminating the yard. Perhaps I shall wander to the kitchen and make Treats for the kids…
I managed to go to the grocery store, get upgrades for our cellphones (on-line), and currently have dinner in the oven.
I was planning on cheaping out and just getting the “free” phone upgrades, but nooooo, **Mr. Taters ** wanted something fancier. So, he got a fancier phone, and I got a middle of the road phone. In other words, it’s costing me about $190.00 bucks to upgrade initially, but I’ll have a total of about $80.00 or $90.00 in rebates coming. That rebate shit pisses me off. Just give it to me upfront, dammit!
Geeze, Haze, I hope your landlord responds soon. Years ago, when Mr. Taters and I live in our first apartment together, the ceiling above our bathtub/shower cave in. The unit above ours had leaks in the pipes. It took a bit of calling, but we finally got the maintenance guy in. He ended up having to come back though, because things weren’t fixed properly the first time he came.
Bobbio’s list made me tired too.
I should go do some laundry. I’m sick of laundry. Someone wanna come over and do my laundry and clean my house? C’mon, I’ll even bribe you with food and drink.
Today I:
Went to church
Went to brunch
Went to Bed Bath & Beyond and to Whole Foods (I am now in possession of all items necessary for making Black Bean and Mango Salad)
Went to Staples
Did my taxes (this took a while as I was less than optimally organized)
Talked to my brother
Talked to my mom
Thought about doing other stuff, but am tired and need to get up super-early.
Really don’t want to think about what I need to do for tomorrow.
Excellent to see that **Haze ** is aware of her responsibility to the MMP.    on the ceiling, by the way. My former digs were like that. They had a horrible roof for quite a while. The landlady finally replaced it the year I bought my house. Of course.
Hope tonight goes better, kai.
I’ma have some cheese and crackers and wine and toddle off to bed.
Turn the fan on! The thrust might just hold the ceiling up, reverse-helicopter style. Do you know where the water is coming from?
I just got back from the grocery. I did great for under $40. My local groceria, a Butera, serves a varied ethnic population and has some great bargains. I made some hot wings tonight. I also took a corned beef out of the freezer. Great food options for this week.
I like those black plastic shopping bags you get from the liquor store. They obscure all items within. I use them for garbage can liners. Good thing there always seems to be some around…
We were watching some Tim & Eric’s Awesome Show (Great Job) last night. What a totally bizarre show and with something to offend everyone, it’s a good way to kill a party.
I am making Dotty’s pepperoni bread, sans pepperoni tomorrow.
Gah on the ceiling. We once had our dining room ceiling fall on us–there were shingles missing on the roof and water got in under the felt. Thank god for home insurance–we had to have the ceiling and one whole wall replastered…
