Changing the world...one MMP at a time!

Okey doke, Turkey Hash it is! For this recipe you will need either a bunch of leftover cooked turkey, cut into bite size chunks or some turkey to roast along with the N.O.T. because sometimes you just gotta have turkey hash when you haven’t made a turkey lately!

Make the vinaigrette ahead because it benefits from sitting around. Basically, you want about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of vinegar, any kind. I use red wine, rice, coconut or sugar cane vinegar in whatever proportions are available/I feel like at the time. Add 1/2 to 3/4 cup of olive oil. Then add mustard, again, whatever kind is handy. Gulden’s, deli coarse brown, honey mustard, hot mustard–pretty much anything but French’s horrible yellow baby poop mustard will work. Get creative, it’s more fun that way! Whisk it all together until nice and smooth. You want to end up with 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 cups of finished vinaigrette, depending on how much turkey and N.O.T. you decide to use. More is better, as far as I’m concerned. If you make too much, keep the excess in the fridge for something else.

So, several cups of turkey, cubed.

Enough N.O.T. (I prefer russets, but reds or yukons can work too) to produce roughly twice as much when cubed as you have of turkey. Wipe them down with olive oil, sprinkle with garlic salt and pepper and roast until all done, then cube them up hot and throw in with the turkey.

Cook a bunch of bacon (I don’t know how much–it’s YOUR hash!) until crisp and drain on paper towels. In the hot bacon fat, cook a whole bunch of garlic cloves that have been peeled and julienned. Again, it’s up to you how much you use. I use a butt load! Five to fifteen cloves is generally about normal. Drain these on paper towels too. Then crumble the bacon and add it and the garlic to the rest of the stuff.

Roughly cut up a good sized red onion and add that too.

Toss it all together with the vinaigrette–don’t be afraid to really soak it because the chunky ingredients will stand up to a lot of flavor. Season to taste with kosher salt or garlic salt and pepper.

This is incredibly good eaten hot or equally good the next day cold. It will keep beautifully over a weekend camping trip and is fabulously perfect as a hangover cure. It reheats in the microwave just fine. Total peasant food, hearty and satisfying with tons of flavor!

Bon appetit!

Gah. Long day. Waaay too long of a day.

'Nuther one tomorrow.

Soup was dinner, and not even homemade, it was that stuff you pour out of a bag and whisk about.

Someone say beer?

Monday, Monday everyone!
We had a very productive weekend out at the new house, cleaning and prepping for painting and refinishing, we’re almost there!
Oldest daughter didn’t call me for three days, so Saturday I woke up in a very foul mood, brushed me teeth, me hair, and drove up to his apartment complex and knocked for ten minutes. Ended up having to fish paper and pen out of my bag, and wrote a nasty note about calling me.
I got her call at about noon, and it seriously sounded like she had just rolled out of bed. I gave her what for, and she apologized. She called me again later that night and last night as well. I must have done something right.
Last night while getting milk out of the fridge, I noticed it seemed not as cold. How observant of me!
We lost about 3/4 of everything in the freezer, and a few things out of the fridge as well. The bottom is the right temp, but the top is not. Service guy came out, as suspected, it another thermostat. I love my Amana, it’s a workhorse, and it’s about ten years old, but this is the second thermostat in that time. Two grand plus two hundred for two thermostats. I guess I can’t complain too much.
Geothermal guy came out to the new house today, he was supposed to bring my unit, but the wrong one came in. So we’re going to have to wait about two more weeks for it to be shipped out from Florida. He was pretty frustrated, as we’ve had a contract since February, but I’m just wanting it in before the end of May. He brought out his excavator guy, who wanted to tear down my grape vine, but Geo guy is willing to come out and do smaller boring to save it, so it’s good!
The flowers are coming out at the new house in droves, I’m going to have to take pictures of many of them, because I don’t have a clue as to what half of them are. She was quite the gardener though! I do have fo-dills, snowbells, and I believe iris. Some very nice smelling flowers are up, and I tried to clean the leaves and the grass out by hand for now.
I grilled pork steak tonight.
I BBQED! WOOO!
First one of the season gets my fur up…rawr!
Baby seems to like it enough, I was able to eat a reasonable meal tonight.
Off here now, headache coming on, sorry for running on so much, its been a few days!

I’m about 1/2 done on the paper–it’s roughed out. It’s not due until 4/22. I just want it over with. I feel good enough about it to drop it for now. But thanks for the kick in the pants, GT.
That turkey hash sounds good.

This week (well, tomorrow and Wednesday) I need to:

get #2 son to the dentist

buy a new printer cartridge so that I can print out my statement of faith letter for #1 son to open on his last Sophomore retreat for church. Should be interesting reading…

buy a boatload of Preen and start applying it, liberally, to my flower beds, stat.

buy a wedding present for wedding on Saturday

Lose 10 pounds for wedding on Saturday. Oh, wait…
garden, clean bathrooms, do practicum work etc. I went to the grocery store last night after my puter died for the last time, so that’s done.

I’s tahred.

Whoo, what a day! Remember a few weeks ago when I was sad that my girlfriend said “just friends”? Hold on, not so fast. We have been doing a LOT of talking the last couple days, and “just friends” has been upgraded. How it will end up we aren’t sure yet, but it is at the FWB (friends with benefits) stage. Does this statement make sense to anyone else? “I am confused by you and you are confused by me, I think that is a basic for a good relationship.” I said that to her and she laughed, but agreed with me. L is just a cool lady.

I’m happy to hear things are working out, Flowers!

You are way better at writing papers ahead of time than I ever was, rigs. I don’t think I’ve ever finished a paper more than 12 hours before it had to be turned in. This includes my thesis.

You aren’t an overweight, middle aged, gray hairs showing but can’t get an hair appt. woman. When you are, you will start your papers earlier and get them the hell off your plate.

I’ve just started reading Free Food for Millionaires and already I’m writing a scathing review in my head. I hate how Asian American authors mispresent their own culture just to become popular. (Amy Tan, I am looking at you.)

I should go to bed soon. I’ve been so unproductive today. :smack:

I had a friend drop by tonight for a drink before his first-time internet date. She’s an editor(am) / musician (pm). He promised to ask if she has a friend.

What’s the garlic chix recipe everyone keeps talking about? Break me off a piece.

I saved the day big time twice today. I have no idea what my company will do when I leave. I should offer my consulting services. Does $200/hr seem out of line?

Per my routine, I slept late Sunday, stayed up late Sunday evening and have now ruined my sleep schedule for the remainder of the work week. Splendid.

Mornin’ all. Thanks for the compliments about HRH. She is a little darling, and a true princess (I think she got a combination of both our good looks  as well as both our tempers - she can throw a mean tantrum already!).

MamaT, the necklace is not an ideal gift for a toddler, but around here girls’ milestone birthdays are usually marked by the giving of gold. The necklace (which has a compartment within the pendant, enclosing a copy of the first chapter of the Qur’an) will likely remain in HRH’s dresser, for use/wear only on special occasions.

LiLi, don’t worry about Nat rolling over, either way. HRH rolled front to back first (she always slept on her front) around 3 months, then back to front by 4 months. She was sitting by 4.5 months, crawling commando-style a little after 5 months, then standing up and cruising the furniture by 6.5 months! However Nat wants to get the hang of using his muscles and moving his body is up to him, and don’t let anybody tell you he’s anythign but normal!

Oky-doke, off to work! Ciao for now folks!

MMMM Cheddar Garlic Chicken sounds tasty… VB care to pass on the recipe?

Interesting OP, but since I am tired, my comprehension levels have apparently dropped  I will have to re-read it tomorrow with a clear head.

So, as it goes, I have been unemployed now for a little over two months and I am bored out of my mind, but I do have a [fingers crossed] good job prospect with the company I interviewed with on March 21, then had a phone interview with a higher up manager the following Tuesday. They called me this evening to see if I would be available to come by the office on Wednesday to meet some other people. I guess if they weren’t interested, it wouldn’t have progressed this far. Sigh I just wish I could get an answer for my own piece of mind.

In other news we finally got an acceptance from the bank on the house we want to/are going to buy (it is/was a foreclosure/short-sale). What a pain in the ass. It took forever for them to formally accept out offer at full asking price, asking nothing and no contingencies with 20% down. We were supposed to open escrow today, but the bank failed to send the signed offer documents (of our offer to buy), so hopefully our realtor will get those tomorrow. If we’re lucky, we’ll close in less than 30 days. I don’t know why people who do this for their job can’t seem to get their shit together. For the record our realtor has been super.

LV, the original link is [post=9574521]here[/post]. See above comments however on adjustments to the recipe! Good luck on the job and more fingers crossed for the house purchase!

Morning!

How can it only be Tuesday?

Also, I’ve been wondering something…

Where’s beebs???

Well… I ain’t admittin’ nuttin’… but you were getting to be a bit too close.

I’m’a still saying you’re the one been hanging out with him, you’re the prime suspect!

Me, I’ve got nothing to do with it! :halo:

**Rigs **-- we need to start the Grey Power faction here. At least my grey hair are restricted to my beard. Mostly, anyway; after years of my hair getting gradually darker it’s been preternaturally becoming lighter in the past few years. Must be all the sun in this country. Yeah, that’s my story – sun bleaching – and I’m sticking with it (despite hardly ever being out in the sun) :o
Anyway… kickoff meeting for the faction… your place or mine?

::shock and dismay at your accusations, sir::

Maybe beebs vanished into rosie’s space-time warp, along with her bag of jewellery!

I’m thinking these are beebs’s days off and he mostly (only?) posts from work…

Mmmm, yummy recipes. Both the chicken and the turkey hash sound yummy.

Ummmm, rosie, I think chapter 3 is overdue now. (Still basking at recent motivation success. :stuck_out_tongue: )

Job possibility does sound hopeful, LVG. I’m sure they wouldn’t bother asking you in for a meet & greet if you didn’t have a very good chance of being hired. Good vibes heading your way.

I fell asleep just after 8:30 and slept all the way through till almost 5:00 a.m. Which is really a lot for me. I lolled about for a while and finally decided to get up. I feel better this morning, but would be happiest to stay home. Sadly, I have to be in for at least the morning (important meeting with someone flying in from out of town and at least 2 of my peers are likely to miss it due to being sicker than I am).

Off to have a bit more brekkie and find a hot shower and stuff.

GT

Little boy is off to DC for his 7th grade trip today. He’ll be gone 4 days! Usually we have to drag him out of bed at 7- today he was making his own breakfast at 6.
OK, we’ll drop him off at school in just a little bit and then… tada… Let the worrying begin!

Morning all, up and caffeinating here. Running late today!

FCM, CutiePie has kindly provided the definitive chocolate buttercream frosting recipe–all I can add is to say that if you’d like to make it mocha, just use cold already brewed coffee as the liquid instead of milk. (My personal favorite, btw.)

I know I had some other comments to make, but can’t think of them now! Well, they’ll have to wait until this evening, I suppose.

Happy Tuesday all!

Operation Eat Me was the talk of the rescue squad at the meeting last night.  I had to tell a LOT of people that calling me after I go to bed WILL NOT get them baked goods in the future…

Other than that, I got nuttin’. Off to forage for brekkie.
