2 days down, three to go! Woo hoo!
Home from work and skimming the MMP. Oh yes, thanks for that bread pudding recipe, LV, it sounds delicious! And the house looks great too, btw.
Haze, I have greatly enjoyed reading Amy Tan’s books, although none have been quite as good to read as the first couple. I did enjoy the more recent book, about Myanmar, even though it was convoluted and a bit hard to read. I’ve never taken what she’s written as truth about Asian cultures, though. Ah well.
Long day today, and I was messing with spreadsheets, which gives me a headache. A co-worker is going to help me set up a few spreadsheets so that I can track funds…Ay yi yi! So glad tomorrow is hump day.
My son just read Hitchhiker’s Guide and absolutely loved it. Now he walks around quoting it like pro. We’ve already got Both kids quoting Young Frankenstein and Holy Grail…
It gets interesting at our house… yours too, I bet!
Ok, I will start a blog then for Mumpers recipes. Anyone have any problem with me using Blogspot? That’s where my current blog is and I’m very familiar with that.
[Millie from Bull Durham] You can do anything you want…[/MfromBD)
You go girl!
Blogspot works for me. Yay for recipe blog! I have a bunch of Mumper Recipes bookmarked.
Such a coincidence! I was going to solicit OPs today, since we’ve run out of volunteers… So I’ll sign you up for Monday, April 14, Haze, if that’s OK… Anyone else interested in subsequent Mondays?
Hugs for beebs. Sorry you’re hitting a rough patch. More hugs. Also: ::noogie:: Sorry, couldn’t resist.
No stray jeans here. Maybe the cats hid them?
Sounds like a nice relaxing day, Spaz. Hmmm, I’d never heard of Piri Thomas. Interesting.
Long day at work. Didn’t get as much done as I wanted to (so, what else is new?)
What shall I have for dinner. So far it’s been pretzels.
Back later.

This has to be almost the latest I’ve ever posted on any given day. I was reading earlier, but **FCD ** got home early, and we ran down to the marina to check on the boat. (It’s tied up just fine, but the tide was *really * high, so we didn’t go aboard - not without a stepladder…) Then we ran over to WalMart to pick up the last of our pictures. Except the one they owed us somehow got bunged up and is unavailable. The photographer printed off the other pose of me and the kid, but it’s a horrible pic - my blouse had gapped, so there’s a glimpse of belly that is most unattractive. So grrrrrr! Anyway, she did say I could come back with the kid and have another pic done, gratis. I certainly hope so, since I paid for the one I didn’t get yet.
After that fiasco, we went to Bob Evans for a quick supper. Now we’re home in the chill mode. Emphasis on the chill - I don’t think it got out of the 40s today. Who stole our spring??
I’d love a recipe blog! I’m usually too lazy to go back and look for recipes that I’ve seen in various MMPs - getting them all in one place would be great!
Blurgh. It sucks when you can’t get work done due to slow servers. It’s one thing when it’s a long day because there’s just that much work that has to get done. But I just hate it when I have to sit here watching absolutely nothing happen because I’ve got to get stuff done but it’s taking 5 times as long as it should.
Urgh. Going home soon.
Now, THAT’s the Korean way!
I see your point and I agree with it as much as I can, since [sub]I only know about Mulan from the Disney film.(and that’s the American way)[/sub] I wouldn’t like it either if some cultural icon was misrepresented to those who are familiar with it. It’s one thing to play with such things, but another to mess with them…
Do you like An Na? I loved her book, A Step From Heaven (I read it for a YA lit class last summer). I hate to say it, but I hated the Dad in that one, too.
I am off to buy a wedding present. I got a hair appt for tomorrow, thank og. Oh and hey, site supervisor? just so you know, NO I haven’t memorized over 6 pages of author’s names so I can’t tell you offhand if s/he is an “automatically yours” in this particular genre. Why do we write things down and keep files, if not so we don’t have to memorize them?
It’s raining here. Unfortunately, it is NOT raining men. Bah.
Missed the edit window.
ETA: yay for recipe blog. I’ll love you, too. Nooner–I can’t make head of tail of your directions. It sounds like origami as translated from Japanese to Polish and then English or maybe I’m just tired. What I need to do is just click on reply and see how it’s done and then repeat it. I keep meaning to do this and learn it, but I never do…but thanks anyway.
I read the Hitchhiker’s Guide last year and I don’t recall much about it. I think you need to read it at a certain age for it to stick with you. I am now on book 4 of the “trilogy”. Apparently Ms Hearn just couldn’t shut up about the Otori.
It’s still good, but not GOOD. I mean, how many ways can you chop off a man’s head with a saber?
FIRST on 3! Woot!
rigs, I haven’t read An Na, but I’m always looking for new As. Am. novels to read. That Otori series you’ve been talking about also sounds fun.
Olive and I have returned no worse for the wear but about $100 poorer. Ah well.
I forgot to mention - I get to go to the dentist tomorrow - envy me!!!
No probs - just semi-annual cleaning and check-up. So I’ll be late posting tomorrow, too. Just so’s you know.
I HATE taking the cat to the vet, but that’s just me. I’m glad it went ok.
An Na’s book won the Printz book award for YA fic in 2007, FWIW. It’s about a Korean family that emigrates to California, told from the oldest sister’s point of view. She has a younger brother. I found her life very plausible, but I have no idea how true to life it is.
The more I think about it, why would Amy Tan twist legend and folktales like that? Surely there is enough depth of culture to mine for the next 1000 years re China/Asia? The whole thing strikes me as weird, and I’m left wondering if she did it to serve a private purpose of her own? (I don’t believe in that kind of shit for authors. Anytime anyone tells me that in order to understand this or that passage, I have to understand that the writer was left handed, Anabaptist, gay, minority or white etc, I say–no, that’s the burden and responsibility of the writer to convey that to me within the work).Oops, now I’m getting on a soapbox!
Off to run errands now. Blah–but if I do them now, I don’t have to do them tomorrow and I can read Otori 4. Look-it’s got a picture of a samurai warrior on the front cover. I think I’m about done with medieval warring. I can only take so much of it. She’s a fairly good writer, IMO, but there’s nothing lyrical about her prose; just a good sturdy war epic. I like Takeo, though–the main character. Am blathering on, so bye!
A recipe blog is a delightful idea! Especially if someone else is doing the work.
See, I have a recipe blog of my own that I horribly neglect. I think I’ve posted maybe all of 3-4 times in the past year - though in my defense, it’s probably been the most insanely busy year I’ve ever had in my entire life. I’m slowly picking up the pace again, tho.
Also, since no one provided dinner even though I asked oh so nicely, we’re having canned soup and toasted bagels for dinner. I hope you’re all happy that I’ve sunk so low as to resort to canned soup. Sniff.
LiLi, clearly the pant gnomes stole your jeans because they decided you needed to increase the number of pants in your wardrobe. I suspect that the missing jeans will make a prompt reappearance now that you’ve met your end of the bargain. (it’s either that or your hubby wore them, but I suspect few couples have the same pants size and inseam the way Mr Mahna and I do)
Haze, I look forward to much amusing randomness on Monday.
FCM, good luck with the dentist. Which reminds me… Mine has been calling to harass me about the fact that my cleaning is long overdue, and I think I’m running out of excuses to put it off. Gulp.
I seriously hope Mr. Lissar didn’t try to wear them. I’m a foot shorter than him. I’m 5"3, he’s 6"3. I’m also curvier.
It would be really weird if he were curvier.
Off to try to find my damn pants.
Guess what mousie? I’m a Leo too! WHEE!!!
I’ve been internetless. Also phoneless and cableless but just cableless now which does not bother me. The story…
Remember how I said the motor appeared to have burned out on the pool pump? Well, it did, so it got replaced. It also turned out that there was wacky stuff goin’ on with the wiring to the motor and instead of it running on 220, it was running on 110. Not a good thing. Thus, rewiring is being done. Today, electrician guy was digging a trench (I told them to please call the cable and phone companies to have lines marked first but the stoopid electricians did not) and, sure enough he cut the phone/internet line and the cable line as well as a water line for the sprinkler system. GRRRRR… Oh and he was acting like he didn’t know those lines were there which, of course he didn’t, because they did not call before digging like I said to do. Yeah, I wanted to take an afternoon off and do just this. Anywho, thanks to the wonders of cellular phone technology, I was able to call AT&T and Mediacom Cable and schedule somebody to come out and see about all this. AT&T showed up at five p.m. and fixed the phone/internet. Mediacom will be here sometime tomorrow or Thursday. I don’t gotta be here though cause it’s all outside. GRRRRRRR… you best believe the electrician (ok his company) will pay for the repairs. I also placed a call to their office to explain to them in detail how they will pay for any repair costs. Believe me they will.
Now for other news…
I have a grill courtesy of Lowe’s. Well, they expect me to pay for it and all, but that’s where I got it from. Plus, the storm door I ordered for my back door came in and it’s installed. I like this door y’all. It’s solid glass but I can let the top part down and a screen magically appears. It’ll be nice to be able to leave the back door open and let light in and during the all of four to six weeks a year one can have opened windows and screens and such, that’ll be nice too. I have the screen down right now as I post. Dindin tonight was BK. Ol y’all know who went with me to get the grill (it came all put together too!) so we went to BK before goin’ to Lowe’s. BK has a good crispy chicken sammich.
Hugs, yays, boos, woohoos, slaps with a wet trout as appropriate.
Recipe Blog is LIVE!
Now I only went through this weeks MMP and also posted Rigby’s Fucking Heavenly Cookies which is one I knew I got from the MMP.
I kept the blog very simple, as I figure people will want to print recipes and the less color the better. Hope that’s ok with everyone.
NOW to submit a recipe, you can either post it here in the MMP and I should grab it, since I read just about every post here.
OR you can PM it to me.
OR you can email it to me. (Email addy is in my profile)
PLEASE include what category you would like it in.
So far I only have Main Dishes and Desserts, but as more recipes are added, the list on the side of the blog appears. If you have any issues with the categories, please let me know and I can make adjustments. ![]()
Comments are enabled, so please leave feedback! Anonymous commenets are enabled as well. I did not enable comment verification as I hate typing the letters in for that. BUT if we get a ton of spam comments I will have to enable it.
Anyway, I hope that you all will submit recipes and if you have any suggestions, comments, anything please let me know!
