Characters who are too damn whiney!

“Oh, the pain, the pain . . .” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKwwcCpa2Ag

If people are going to call out Luke we might as well call out Anakin as well. He was far worse, and he never matured out of it.

Sookie Stackhouse from True Blood (the show; I won’t read the books, because her character annoys me so much).

Going further back, I always thought Hamlet was a whiny git. An extremely eloquent whiny git, to be sure, but nonetheless a total whiner.

After last night’s episode, I might have to nominate Jess from “New Girl” - she was getting awfully whiny there for a bit.

Duh… Hamlet is a morality play on not being a whiney git. Going so far to say that if you keep whining about shit your mom will die of poison, your girlfriend will kill herself and your country will be occupied by an invading force!

Richie on The Dick Van Dyke Show. Every line he said was whiny.

Mark from Peep Show (British). I know his character is MEANT to be an exaggerated caricature of an uptight, whiny, insecure man, and I love the show. But there were plenty of times when it strayed from funny to just plain annoying.

Watching Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith, at least we could see that Luke got his whinyness genetically (and, I agree, “I wanna be a Jedi Master! And have a hot wife! Why are you picking on me??” is even worse than, “I wanna go to Toschi Station…”).

I do think that Anakin “grew out of it”, but only in that Darth Vader was too cool to whine.

I think Harry Potter in the fifth book. And Hawkeye Pierce in most of MASH.

Order of the Phoenix is my favorite HP book & movie so I have to defend it a bit. I do agree that he was often smackworthy, but he kinda had reason to be so I give him a pass. He saw Voldemort kill the Twilight guy and no one believed him, he saved his stupid cousin from Dementors and got in trouble for it, he gets a new teacher who tortures him and he has to take it, Dumbledore won’t speak to him, and he’s mocked and villified in the press as a crackpot. Among other things. You’d be kinda whiny and petulant too. He finally comes to his senses and realizes he has friends and supporters and needs to get them ready for What’s Coming.

Pffft.Amateurs.

Eore (from Winnie-the-Pooh) needs to be sent to the glue factory.

Holy crap. Is that Hardy Har Har from Lippy the Lion?

Friends the winner is C-3PO.

Pretty much everything Anakin touched turned whiny. C3P0, Luke, Leia (especially in ESB)/ Hell he turned Padme and Obi Wan whiny in ROTS.

Wouldn’t really call him a whiner. In the comics he is fairly stoic, at least these days (He may have been more whiney in his teenage years). In the movies he doesn’t really do much at all.

On the other hand, I eventually got sick of Spider-man comics because Peter Parker is such a whiner. Ok, so you always has money problems, but hey, you’re Spider-man. How awesome it that? How does he somehow make it into such a burden? (Not even mentioning the fact that he always seems to have a smoking hot girlfriend on the go.)

If we’re going to include robots, Marvin the Paranoid Android from *Hitchhiker’s Guide *must be mentioned.

“Life. Loathe it or ignore it. You can’t like it.”

“My capacity for happiness, you could fit into a matchbox without taking out the matches first.”

“The first ten million years were the worst. And the second ten million years, they were the worst too. The third ten million years I didn’t enjoy at all. After that I went into sort of a decline.”

I’ll see your Hardy Har Har and raise you this guy.

Owen Wilson in everything.
