Did anyone else just watch this? What do you make of it?
Due to unemployment and the accompanying insomnia I’ve watched a lot of late night shows lately and I’m usually pretty quick to get a sense of or at least form an opinion of guests and I’ve got say this one is leaving me a little clueless.
Do you think he was sincere? He almost seemed too pleasant. An act? Mood elevating medication? I sure as hell never expected him to back pedal the way he did. If it was genuine than I think it’s quite admirable, yet it seems so unlikely in light of the over the top vitriol he spouted in the not too distant past.
For the record I’ve always liked him in spite of some of his bad behavior and if he’s truly on the mend then I’m glad. I’m just not sure it passes the sniff test.
I wanted to see the interview but apparently the video gets pulled every time it’s posted.
Here’s a brief clip from an article, but it’s not really enough for me to judge sincerity. I’m guessing he was a good boy because of his new show:
I am assuming he only gets residuals in the episodes he’s in, but maybe somehow he will get more money if the show stays on the air?
Like I recall Valerie Harper saying, when she got fired off her show, Valerie -> Valerie’s Family -> The Hogan Family, that she had no interest in killing the show off, as she owned, 25% of it. So she got money from it, even all those years she wasn’t on it.
Maybe somehow, Sheen’s contract pays residuals and he gets more if the total number of years it’s on goes up?
The Boy has expenses. Overhead on Goddesses ain’t cheap. Ex Wives and spawn, times 2, in style, in Hollywood, ain’t cheap either. How’s a guy supposed to keep up?
This article from Feb refers to Sheen as a “profit participant” in Two and a Half Men. I’m not sure if that means he owns a percentage of the show, but it’s very common for stars of hit shows to negotiate for a piece of ownership of the show when it’s time to renew their contract. Often the ownership will be applied retroactively to the first episode.
He seemed sincere - he didn’t have to be that way; he has a new show and he sure as hell ain’t gonna be hired back.
Sure he had a melt down, but it did seem to happen during a slow news period as it was covered in the news far too much for what was basically a non-story. Fine - the guy likes hookers and blow - certainly not the first, nor the last, celebrity to have those tastes.
Whether or not he is now the nice saintly boy, or just between orgies, is irrelevant - he wants to put it past him and get on with his new life. I don’t see a problem with that.
He came across as genuine to me, but I do wonder if he can keep it up. I believe he’s had his sober periods in the past, so who knows. I wish him well. His kids could use a father not addicted to the kinds of drugs he was doing.
It probably has something to do with the roast that Comedy Central constantly has to tell me about since I signed up for emails for The Daily Show and Colbert Report.
