Charter Membership Payment

Re-upped just in time. My payment was made to Chicago Reader Inc.

The Reader is defunct, so we have all been told. Re-upped so I wouldn’t lose my Charter Member Status. Am quite curious about the fact that I’ve used PayPal to send money to a defunct company that was bought out by another company.

Bemused in the extreme to find that for my $ 7.95, my log-in lasts less than 2 minutes before automatically logging me out so I have to log back in to post this post about being logged out.

Funny. And utterly expected.

Did you remember to check the box that said “remember me?”

Why would being bought out mean the company doesn’t exist? Maybe they’ll be merged, maybe they’ll remain separate entities. And being logged out doesn’t happen to a lot of people, so I think it unfair to blame it on this place.

Boy, you’d think I wouldn’t have to tell the Internet to Remember Me in order to be remembered around these parts.

I just did click that. You mean that when we log in, if we do not click that every time, we are automatically logged out after 2 minutes?

I’ll have to keep that in mind. Thank you for the info.

We can lock this now.

Yeah, I think it should default to “Remember Me”, too, but I’m sure someone would complain about that when they forget to log off and someone uses their account.

There are other places that leave that option on by default. But pretty much every website that has a login has a checkbox similar to the “Remember Me” one here.

The Reader is not defunct; it still publishes every week. It is one of the Creative Loafing newspapers but does not carry the Creative Loafing name. (Same thing with the Washington City Paper.)

And yes, for the system to keep you logged in you need to click the box next to your login; otherwise the system logs you out. This has been true for as long as we’ve been on vB and possibly before that but I don’t remember.

If you don’t check the box the system doesn’t remember you. So don’t forget to remember to check the box if you want to stay logged in.
