Cheese and High School Boys

When I read the novel of the movie “E.T.” many moons ago there was an odd school boy in the book who ate a lot of cheese. Later I noticed a line in a song that went, “I’d sure look ridiculous lying in a ditch dead somewhere with a mindful of chemicals like some cheese eating high school boy.” (“I’m an Adult Now” by the Pursuit of Happiness). What is it with high school boys and eating cheese? I asked a friend of mine and he didn’t know. Anyone here know?

Could it have anything to do with the ‘fact’ that if you fast for a ‘while’ and then eat a lot of cheese, you apparently hallucinate? Something kids in high school might experiment with. I know my own parents told me that eating cheese before you go to bed gives you nightmares…

Or a symptom of calorie and protein cravings due to rapid growth and muscle building that boys undergo in their teens. Teenage boys’ ability to empty a fully stocked refrigerator is legendary. Cheese may be a favorite since it’s packed with calories, calcium, and protein…

“Cheese-eater” is also a synonym for “rat/tattletale/fink.”

Ah-ha! I KNEW this was going to be about the TPOH song!

Sorry to say, though, I’ve got nothing else to add to this thread.
