Chewbacca in Episode III!

I wish it was April 1.

Christ, just when you think Lucas couldn’t f*#k this franchise up anymore…

I don’t care HOW old Chewbacca is, unless his role is a little walk by, his inclusion in this series at this point is going to be stupid, with a capital “stu”. I mean, the inclusion of C-3PO and R2-D2 is bad enough to screw up the continuity lines. In Episode 4, the droids had never been to Tantoine and had NO IDEA who Obi Wan Kenobi was…now, apparently they spent a good five to ten years hanging out with the guy, and 3-PO was apparently built on the planet? His connection to Anakin is completely stupid and such a horribly, HORRIBLE idea.

Judging from the way things go, I wouldn’t be suprised if Chewbacca ends up being rescued by Anakin, helping out Obi Wan protect Amedala from him, and being the one who takes Luke to Tantoine, because Lucas is that much of a jackass!

I admit, the premise of these movies really enticed me at first, but having watched Episodes I and II, it really makes me wonder why he even bothered. It’s like taking a story you loved as a child, finding it again as an adult, reminising about how much you loved the book, then wiping your ass with it.

No!

Chewbacca will be proven to be Luke’s REAL father!

That’s why Luke didn’t end up having sex with him, you see.

Maybe Chewbacca will end up like little Nibbler in Futurama.

The mere inclusion of the droids does not screw up the continuity. Lucas said a long time ago they were central figures in the series. There’s nothing that has happened so far (except the flying R2) that can’t be explained away by a C3PO memory wipe and R2’s unintelligible language.

Including Chewbacca is not necessarily a continuity-breaker, either. Remember, Obi Wan already knows his name when they first meet in the Cantina.

Which is not to say that Lucas can’t screw it up, just that it’s plausable. Maybe we’ll get to see Kashyyk. (sp?)

Totally sweet.

I hope they run into him during a bloated middle act in which they land on WookieWorld during the Lifeday celebration.

Well, not to be NitpickBoy, but I think Lucas has been keeping C-3PO and Obi-Wan apart so far. C-3PO was left behind on Tatooine when Anakin left in Episode I. Obi-Wan never went to Shmi Skywalker’s home, and only met Anakin when Qui Gon and Padme returned to the ship with the parts they needed. Anakin and C-3PO were reunited on Tatooine in Episode II, when Obi-Wan was off doing his investigation, and I can’t remember any scene where Obi-Wan and C3PO were ever together.

Now, why the older Obi-Wan didn’t recognize R2 is a different question, but maybe all R2 units look alike to him . . .

Elvis stop reading the script and spoiling it for the rest of us. We all know that Lucas is a corporate shill now and only in it for the merchandising money. I told friends that I am not likely to even see the last movie because the other two were so bad. Talk about ruining childhood magic.

If I recall correctly, Wookiees live for around a hundred and eighty years, mind you.

I must say that, even before I saw Eps. I and II, it always seemed to me like Obi-Wan did know R2D2, just that he hadn’t been (his? its?) owner. I found his expression to be one of amusement, someone joking with an old friend.

Chewbacca? That’s going to be a bit more difficult…

Maybe we can get Bea Arthur to sing about Life Day too.

Two things: Obi-Wan says, “I don’t seem to remember ever owning a droid …” --not that he didn’t recognize R2. Very evasive, IMO. Lots of leeway.

We don’t know that Obi-Wan knew Chewbacca’s name before he got to the cantina–it’s just as likely that he (a) understood Wookiee and picked up the name from his short conversation with Chewbacca (b) was told the name by that other human pilot he speaks to before he meets Chewbacca.

Oh c’mon, the way he said, “I don’t remember ever owning a droid.” Obi Wan SO remembered R2D2.

But actually, doesn’t matter. It works.

haven’t read the rest of the thread…

Thanks for the spoiler right there in the title of the thread

Presumably Lumpy hasn’t been born yet, but maybe Iggy & Mala will also make an appearance.

No, some live to be almost six hundred years, actually.

I think it’s cool-it’s bad enough when they

Killed Chewie off!

I completely agree that people should be considerate with spoilers, but how is this a spoiler? It’s currently the top story on starwars.com. They have a picture of (part of) Chewbacca on the front page and everything.

Err… Maybe some people on the board don’t go to starwars.com.

Well, I think it’s reasonable to expect some exposure. What if it’s in the theatrical trailer? Or on the movie poster? It’s pretty clear that the filmmakers don’t intend it to be a secret or a surprise. What if I said Yoda’s in Episode III? That’s not a spoiler, even if there are people who don’t know it.

All very good points, and I’ve had this argument on the boards before. However, just because some nugget of information is available somewhere on the internet, even on a popuar site, doesn’t mean it’s common knowledge. I’ve heard on the SDMB that Rob Lowe is leaving the West Wing, but I’ve never heard it mentioned anywhere else, because I don’t read the kind of magazines that reveal TV gossip. Similarly, I have a rather juvenile approach to new Star Wars films in that I run screaming from the room when the trailers are on, so I won’t have anything spoiled for me. I’m not sure I should have said that.
