Chicagoan, or Cubs Fans in General, Have You Heard this Other One?

Okay, so there’s the Billy Goat Curse, that everyone knows about, and there’s the Totem Pole story that few people know about.

How many of you have heard this for the reason for the Cubs long history of woe?

There are many, many rabid Cub fans, and 108 years of failure. In those 108 years, generations of these rabid Cub fans have died.

A few of them, not many, but a few, have relatives that have snuck into Wrigley with the cremated remains of these rabid Cub fans, and have flung the ashes over the field, believing that Uncle Edward or Aunt Sue or Cousin Billy would’ve wanted to spend eternity there.

Now the restless spirits of these departed loved ones are screwing up the games.

Wrigley Field is haunted, in other words.

What I don’t understand is why these ghosts would be making trouble for the Cubs. If they’re the ghosts of Cub fans, wouldn’t they be making the Cubs win season after season?

Wait a minute. What if those are the ashes of White Sox fans flung by malicious relatives? Is that possible?

Has anyone else heard this story?

Haven’t heard that one either. My guess is that these stories have been made up by tour guides, probably to increase their tips by telling tour groups things they didn’t know.

Until I read the OP, I hadn’t heard of the “Totem Pole story”. This article filled me in, and also mentions other “Cub curses”.

Well it all don’t matter now, right?

Maybe it wasn’t Cub fans’ remains, but those of:
The 1906 White Sox.
The 1907-08 Tigers.
The 1910 Athletics.
The 1918 Red Sox.
The 1929 A’s.
The 1932 and 1938 Yankees.
The 1935 and 1945 Tigers.
