I’m open for anywhere, although if it’s down in the city, I’m guessing I have to lay off the hooch and such so I can navigate back. There might be trains and such, but that doesn’t help when you live seven miles from the nearest Metra station in the suburbs. Of course, everyone has travel considerations and mine aren’t anymore important than anyone elses.
That said, Bird’s Nest sounds like a cool place and I’d be willing to give it a try. I’m not enough of a barfly to offer up any other suggestions, so I’m casting my vote with Val.

Time to drag this puppy back to the top. C’mon folks, we’re losing momentum here. The Bird’s Nest sounds fine to me. The wife and I could use a taste of something new, anyway. Are there any major objections?
Where is it on North Ashland? Is it anywhere near any of the expressways? Since a lot of us are coming in from the 'burbs we need someplace that isn’t too hard to find.

I haven’t been to either one of those places - what’s the story w/ parking?

Yeah, I’m going to have to deal with the same thing. The only thing I can think of is maybe taking a Metra train and cabbing it home from there. Of course, if everyone were going to do THAT then we’d probably be better off meeting downtown, closer to the train station. I don’t know.
Sheffield’s is on the corner of Sheffield and School Rd. just south of Wrigley field. Parking is typical Lincoln Park/Wrigleyville style, on the streets. Not usually a problem for me on Weeknights, but I know the area pretty well. Barleycorn’s is the same, but they have less toys, its best during the weekend, and has a good social crowd, probably not ideal on a Sunday night though. Any questions?
Ten Cat on North Ashland has pool tables, beer, easy street parking, and enough room inside.

Ten Cat is just south of Irving on Ashland. Interesting place, not real big, kind of dark and allows dogs. Not real close to expressways or the Drive.
Hmm, yeah. The votes have ceased pouring in, so at the moment it looks like the Bird’s Nest.
and now the next fun question: WHEN do we want to meet? It’s a Sunday, so a lot of people will have to work the next day. I have traffic court Monday morning, so I know I can’t stay up as late as I’d like. I normally don’t even go OUT to start drinking before 10, but that’s not going to work. So what do you guys think? 7? Earlier? Later?
Chicago is about six hours away from me, but as far as I know, the 21st is good for me. If someone would be so kind as to email me some details as far as directions to whichever place we’re meeting, time and cheap hotel accommodations in the general vicinity, I would be ever so grateful.

And I would agree with you. But this doesn’t really describe Ten Cat. The place is actually relatively spacious, just broken into different rooms and a few nooks and crannies. The back room is a lot like being in someone’s living room. We could probably take over the back room, depending on what night we go.
Dogs are allowed, but not everyone brings a dog. Usually there’s just one. And it’s not really dark inside, but the place does have character. It also has excellent beer on tap, and a couple good-quality pool tables. There’s a beer garden out back, if we happen to get unseasonably warm weather.
It’s also easy to find, near the intersection of two major North Side thoroughfares.
All this is probably mute, though, since it looks like the Bird’s Nest is the choice. That’s fine with me. But I have a feeling some folks who drive in from the suburbs will have a little trouble parking nearby.
I might actually be able to make this. But I can’t get the map links to work. Anybody feel like posting directions to the place? (And a nearby cheap-ass hotel, if such exists?)
Back to the top, but not under happy circumstances, at least for me. The WeimarDog is out for the 21st. The SDMBers were finessed by my Mother-In-Law, who just notified us that we are having an early “Thanksgiving” dinner that day (200 miles away), so that she can high-tail it down to Florida before the real holiday. What is the nature of this sickness in our society, wherein people feel that they can just personalize National holidays and move them around for their convenience? No matter, she is old and not well, so this may be her last one, for all I know, and that makes it priority one for me. Have a brew for me, and, more importantly, make it fun so that there will be incentive for a Y2K follow-up.
