If the Huddled Masses will let me breathe free, I’ll be there.
Damn! I’d come up with a snappy rejoinder, if I didn’t deserve that so much.
I’ll bring my spritzer just in case you aren’t “glowing” sufficiently when you arrive.
Well, I’ll have to see about the timing here. I have a real estate closing at 2 on Webster, so I’d really have to scoot to get there, and I’m not coming from Division/State, so I’m afraid I can’t promise the cab.
Will I be able to eat and get out of there by 1:40 or so?
Not a problem, **Abe[b/]. I’ll ride the bike instead, since the logistics will prove difficult anyway. So it looks like Dinsdale can leave his spritzer at home.
Lunch with the ultra-cool ChiDopers plus a sweating… er, glowing… Gundy. Does life get better than that?
See y’all at 1. (And Abe, I don’t think getting out by 1:40 would be a problem.)
I have no idea how I missed this. Squirt me with some water bottles, Judith, and I’ll shake my ass in your general direction. Awww yeah.
Just over an hour and I should still be able to make it. Woohoo!
Okay, I got back a few minutes ago and I MUST post this because it’s the coolest.
Sometime last week I was walking past the Larabee St. fire station, reading as I walked. I bumped into one of the firemen, who were outside washing a truck. I apologized, and after exchanging pleasantries he introduced me to the rest of the firemen. They offered a tour, but I declined as I was on a tight schedule and had to get back to work, so I took a raincheck. Super nice guys.
Anyway – I was riding past the station just now on the way back to work and stopped at the corner for a light. One of the firemen looked my way, so I waved, and he yelled, “Hey, it’s Erica!” Every fireman in the station turned around and said in unison, “Hi, Erica!” It was like being Norm on Cheers, only with less beer. Woo! Now I can cross that off my list of things that must happen to me in my lifetime.
Oh yeah, and lunch was great. I won’t grouse so much next time, assuming the weather is less crappy.
You had a stationhouse full of firemen greeting you, and you actually made it back to work? That could have been the opening scene of a great porn flick.
Next you’ll be telling us about the all the good clean fun to be had down by the docks when the fleet comes in.
Eva Luna, dude, I KNOW. I was ready to circle around and come back. How many firehouse double-entendres can be made? Lots and lots, that’s how many.
I’ll tell you all about the sailors, Dinsdale, next time you don’t show up at lunch.
I officially hate you, Gundy. But please, tell me more about the washing of the truck . . .
The firemen wanted to give you a “tour of the firehouse” ??? And you turned them down???
BTW, did everyone notice that the weather is now sunny? I bet it’s 70 degrees outside now, too.
So should we try this again in another month or so? Maybe the week before the July 4th Holiday? Thursday, June 26th?
I’m sorry I couldn’t make it. Turns out the closing was moved up to 1:00, so there was no chance at all of making the lunch. Is there a chance at a next time?
Hey Abe Babe, look up.
[sub]I’m proposing Thursday, June 26th for the next time.[/sub]

Just a bump/reminder to see if anyone’s interested in a downtown lunch on Thursday, June 26th.
June 26 is just fine with me, porc! Any proposed locations? I know we had discussed Giordano’s (the one on Randolph/Franklin?).
Works for me, too, pending, of course, the activities of the Huddled Masses (and my lungs).
Was that enough commas for a single sentence fragment?
I don’t care where as long as it ain’t too far from a blue line stop.
